Safe ZONES??? why are there none

  • Just picked up the game. Playing solo to get a feel for the game i spent hours finishing my missions and exploring more lands. Keeping my boat safe from attacks and weather i decided to head back to the place i started the game. Honestly i believed these zones to be safe as they are areas with vendors and to get more missions. Well i was wrong. Before i even docked i got boarded by 4 other players just waiting. Everything was taken and everything i did for hours gone.

I am all for pvp in this game but to not have a zones where it is safe to unload cargo, use vendors and get more missions is unheard of. MAKE THE OUTPOST ZONES SAFE FROM PVP or else solo play will be non existent, and the game will consist of groups just ganking at outpost. Any new player playing for the first time will just get killed over and over before they even get to there ship.

    BE MORE PIRATE

  • i hope there is none. I've stolen 4 fort keys so far. imagine if i could just go hide at the outpost with it.

    that would be pretty lame...

  • the day they implement ANY kind of safe zone will be the day I stop playing this game.

  • @burgerbob592 safe zones will never be added to the game, no mater how much you complain and demand that they be added, if you spent hours getting chests then you should have dropped some off along the way just so that events like this does not happen.

this event is on you, not the dev's

  • /smacks head in eureka moment

Of course , safe zones , this has never been brought up ,

/looks down at the 10 other threads on first two pages alone

This was never talked about in beta nor stated it was designed to not have safe areas

I’m sure the developers will immediately change a core gameplay element two days after launch now that they have been given this idea

  • Eh, it happens. I'm usually on the giving end of plundering, but yesterday a 2-man sloop ambushed us right as we were loading our loot from a skeleton fort. It felt bad man. I'm definitely pretty salty about it, but I know that's an aspect of the game that makes it good and that 2-man sloop definitely had a good time.

  • Just no to the safe zones.

Having your stuff stolen and someone hiding in a safe zone with it so you can't get it back? Care bear island where you can't do anything once someone escapes there? (Which right now is easy if both ships are competent and are going the same speed). Ew.

Again with the complaint of "hours of work" lost, understand the concept of risk/reward and don't just leave it lying around.

  • Please no safe zones, this from a pirate who started sailing yesterday!

  • @burgerbob592 Afraid to inform you this is entirely the design of the game. It's supposed to be dangerous and risky.

Never assume anything is yours until it's cashed in, and always be weary of your surroundings - even more so when you're solo. If you see other ships close by, it's always safer to head elsewhere to cash in.

Unfortunately, even being as careful as you can, you will get in to scrapes and you will lose loot - it's just the nature of the beast!

Hopefully you can pick yourself up and keep going - there really is a fantastic game to explore here!

  • There is a safe zone. It is called the login screen.

  • The game would be no fun if you could just sail into port when ever danger arises. The risk is what makes the reward that much sweeter. :)

  • I would like to see a “safe zone” area, more of a non-combat area that has mini-games and gambling. It’d be nice to have a place to meet new crews where you don’t have the tension of potentially being pirated, lol.

I would roam around these places untill people sail off and shoot them to Davy Jones Locker. Myaharrrr!

  • There is a safe zone, the main menu of the game.

Haha, I can see that being an issue for sure. That said, perhaps it should be an area you walk into in the bar at Outposts so you load in.

    That should prevent griefing.

But what would you do if Rare made a fully functioning town, 1 per map, a proper town, with room for all on the server to arm wrestle, drink, stock up their ship etc etc but also made it a safe haven?

As long as you had to leave your ship outside of the safe zone and could not bring any loot with you to it, fine.

  • @zombi3pirate Well considering most forts are not particularly close to outposts I don't see a problem.

  • As you said, you are new to the game, so you likely don't know much of how to get around the game. You need to be aware of your surroundings at all times when you venture out on a solo journey.

When you are closing in on an outpost, try and make it a habit to raise the sails to lower speed a bit, jump to the crow's nest and take a look around the island. If you see a mermaid in the water, it means someone is hiding on the island with no ship. If you see other players approaching from the distance, you still have time to get out of there or even deliver what you have before they arrive.

Safe zones would ruin the game since there is no catch-up mechanic in place, it'd be too easy for anyone to escape into a safe zone.

Yeah but they would only need to ride the wind to an outpost better than you can and hide out till you get bored and leave. Unfair player advantage, which they said they wouldn't promote.

Yeah baby. Row to the town from your moored ship. (Mod Edited)

Cool reply, glad you invalidated any further influence or opinions here with this completely irrelevant retort.

    Here, have a treat.

  • @burgerbob592 The outposts are supposed to be safe zones according to the PIRATE CODE located in the pubs on each outpost. Some players do not know of this so they will attack while you dock on an outpost.

  • This game will die off very soon because of people that hide in the bushes at the outposts and kill everybody that comes to sell chests.

  • @burgerbob592
I am sorry if what I am about to type seems harsh; no.

No safe zones, ever. This game is equal parts PvE/PvP and if you create spaces where a pirate cannot be a pirate it goes against the very essence of the game design. Tension is a big draw for Sea of Thieves, moment to moment not knowing what may happen as you try and cash in is thrilling and learning the ropes on how to avoid, escape, lose, and/or fight other players is literally half the game (equal parts remember).

If you create some arbitrary safe zone just to make people feel good about cashing in for a carrot on the stick that ultimately serves no other purpose than to show off the game will start leaning too heavily on the PvE side (which then results in the game being weaker as an experience for it).

The balance right now between these equal parts is part of what makes this game one of the greatest PvP/PvE multiplayer games ever, go too far in one direction over the other and you ruin the balance.

PUBGs ENTIRE "thing" is the tension of not knowing where player danger will come from, this game has that head and shoulders over that game and includes PvE elements as the motivators/catalysts for it all.

Holy hell this game is lightning in a bottle.

    So no, no safe zones.

  • @abyssslayer99 Just got ambushed by 4 guys on one outpost stole all my chess and then every time I would respwan they were waiting on my ship to kill me again

  • @burgerbob592 Play smart! I'm not saying it doesn't slowly kill you inside when all your loot gets stolen over and over again. But that's how the game works.
My friend gave me some tips while we were playing with a four man crew, but I recommend you using these as well as it could help. :)

Don't keep to many chests at once (when you're alone.) This could cause you to loose everything at once without being able to do something about it. (It is fair however.)

Turn the lanterns off! Yeah this may sound dumb, but it really helps. This way they won't notice your ship from far away, unless they actually pay attention to every detail on the seas.

Don't dock your ship near others unless you're with more. This way they might not notice your ship either. Note that I can't predict everyone's play style (they could dock their ship close to yours) and you might not have the patience to walk across the whole outpost but it could help if you're too afraid to run into an enemy ship next to you.

This is a pirate game. Can't handle losing your loot in battle or due to enemies? Get a crew. This way someone could guard the ship (making sure you can run back when they need help).

I know there's a possibility you won't do anything with these tips, but I'm trying to help and I surely hope I did! (for whoever reads this)

    Article 7
Those Who Cheat Shall Be Punished
Pirates who show bad form and cheat their crew or others shall surely face bitter hardships and punishments.

  • @macstava At this point, when you get tilted, close the game, get some tea, relax, restart the game and continue.

I had this problem, I had two chest and this 3 man crew ambushed me and stole everything. Assuming I had more they kept killing me. I admit, it sucked. I eventually spawned somewhere else. At that point you move on. If this happens too much, and you're disliking it then join someone else's crew. Because this is just how the game works. If you want a relaxing game where no one steals your loot I advice you to maybe try a different game.

Because other players aren't the only threats in the game.

I actually haven't had this problem yet. But I know it's bound to happen. And this is why I didn't waste $60 on this game. I'll pay $10, play for a month and then be completely bored with it.

Let's be honest. There are a lot of losers out there who spend day and night playing games. No job, no friends. They get enjoyment out of ruining the experience for other players. It's only a matter of time before people get bored with this game or get tired of dealing with trolls. They'll stop playing, people won't have others to play with. So they'll go solo. Get annoyed and quit playing themselves. This is why I said from day one, this game will last 3-4 months.

And how would safe zones ruin the game? The only thing they would prevent, is a group of players sitting and waiting to attack less skilled players or people who are trying to play solo. You want to attack someone, do it on the seas.

  • The Legendary Pirate Hideout is a safe zone, you just have to earn your way there first

Until then you just have to change your play-style, stick to one voyage at the time and your potential losses won't be as huge

  • No one in a pvp game like pubg complain about safe zones... Why are you?
