Grey Screen Crash at Launch. Still.

  • I'm really trying to be patient with Rare about this issue as I understand everything else that's going on. I'm just really disappointed that after Pre-ordering the game that I still have not been able to get into the game for even one second. This is after literally hours of troubleshooting and scouring the forums and google for fixes for this issue. This is what Rare is suggesting to people, and it has been wildly unsuccessful (for me) and I would LOVE any other suggestions.

    " Fix #1
Login to Windows 10 with a local Microsoft Account. This fixes majority of cases reported.

    Fix #2
Open the Windows 10 Store, then in the top right corner click on the profile picture.
If you have multiple accounts signed in, sign out all of them but leave the email account linked to the game’s purchase signed in.
Next, in the Windows 10 Store download any free app at all.
Then try playing Sea of Thieves again through the Windows 10 Store “Library” page.

    Fix #3
Go to the below link and save / run the tool. Follow the on screen instructions to troubleshoot / fix your issue.

    Fix#4
    Press Windows + R
    Type Powershell and hit enter
Copy and paste the following into the powershell window and press enter

    Get-AppXPackage | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register “$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml”}"

  • @ruhnincircles you need the newest update für Win10, i had the same problem, but after the update you can play!

  • @iixxmaniacxxii I was hoping that'd be the case also, but I indeed have the latest update, which is KB4088776 , unless I am incorrect.

  • @ruhnincircles yes this the update i mean, and you can still not playing?

  • @iixxmaniacxxii Nope :/ I've tried so many different suggestions. I've been waiting for a 2nd reply from Rare in a support ticket for over a day now. ( I get that they're busy ) I just have limited play time as I have a full time job like most people, and also 2 kids and a family. It's just disappointing to get home each day and notice that the game still doesn't launch.

  • If anyone has ANY suggestions regarding this I'd appreciate hearing them very very much. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the game plenty of times. Logged in with a local MS account and tried. I'm completely up to date with Windows. How have other people with this issue fixed it??? It's really getting annoying. I apologize for losing patience lol :/

  • @ruhnincircles Make sure you actually have the game fully downloaded. Check the game file to make sure it is 18-19gb, My game file was around 300mb and I had to uninstall and then reinstall for it to begin downloading the 19gb file

  • @captn-grimshaw Hey, so I know my game WAS fully downloaded. During my troubleshooting I uninstalled it and reinstalled it though. What worries me is that everytime I uninstall it and install it is that it only installs 18mb or so and the “download” is done in seconds. That makes me feel like somehow I’m not fully uninstalling the game. I can’t find it under programs and features to uninstall so i just uninstall it from the windows start menu as suggested. Can someone help me find where to and how to fully uninstall so I can do a clean install?

  • So I finally completely uninstalled it. I had to give myself access to the windowsapp folder (even though I am the admin on my pc) and then i found the sea of thieves folder in there. Deleted the 2 SoT folders in windowsapp and proceeded to do a full download of SoT. I'll let you know if that works.

  • I got a grey screen however it's after playing with family members for about 20 minutes then I get a gray screen and crash to desktop. Is there a fix for this?

  • any news on this? i seem to be having the same problem with no fixes
