Running into the same issue. I was previously able to play just fine for hours. Now I'm lucky if I get 30 minutes before a crash happens. Makes me not want to play since I lose all mission progress, especially frustrating when taking missions cost gold.
Game crashes "randomly" when in-game.
Having the same issue, playing with 3 others.

Crashes every 8-10 minutes (on the clock)We are sharing a digital copy with the four of us (don't know if it makes the diffrence). All four of us are having this issue. All W10, all updated drivers, disabled xbox dvr, xbox overlay. Nothing works. Both AMD and Intell CPU, GPU. Doesn't seem to make a diffrence. Really starting to get desprerate since we have been troubleshooting since launch. Any update would be appreciated.
@muharai I dont know how to help you but for the ones with amd i got a good solution
(Its working perfectly fine for me after this fix)

@odyseus-odyssey "We are sharing a digital copy with the four of us"
and you asking why its crashes?) Try to buy the game each of you and it will goes fine
I cant see other connections@squalidstatue61 Using the same game copy to share with the play anywhere system (which allows up to 10 users) should have no connection to technical problems. What evidence do you have that this is the problem? Especially considering there are solo and duo players (each with their own copy) who also experience this problem. Your opinion is invaid
We are experiencing an unplayable problem and your suggestion is spending 210 more euro's? You know how crazy that sounds?
@jibbaxjabba said in Game crashes "randomly" when in-game.:
@muharai I am having somewhat the same problem. Only my entire computer shuts down and restarts while in-game. I'll be fine for about an hour and then without warning everything goes black and my computer restarts. Never had this problem with any other game. Too scared to play now because I don't want to lose missions or chests or be in the middle of a fight and have the game crash my computer.
Do you monitor your computers temperature when playing? this sounds like your computer is shutting off to stop itself from causing long term damage.
@pynnn There's an article here on the website which might help - would definitely recommend contacting Support as well - https://support.seaofthieves.com/hc/en-gb/articles/115015775927-Sea-of-Thieves-not-Launching

This Did not work at all. i have all Latest Drivers. Updates. everything.
@squalidstatue61 Play Anywhere games will work if you share them, (just like Forza Horizon 3) if the game crashes and your PC works fine, it's the game's problem.
Today i started the game with random players, it worked! If i wanna play with my friends, it crashes, what a nice day... I can't play with japanese and russian people who can't use the voice chat and the text chat, i don't know what to do anymore, waiting for support response and waiting for the 1.0
@msgtmarl if this doesnt work try get the 17.2.3 driver
?downgrade?
(i dont know how to call it)this worked for me aswell
So not the 18 the 17.
I hope i helped you some way

just did a roll back, still does not work
@katttruewalker
I tried all the fixes on that article, but no luck. :(But what @odyseus-odyssey said in Game crashes "randomly" when in-game. above just made me start thinking that this problem might be caused by something related to family share mechanism.
I have 3 PCs and am sharing a single copy of game with my other family members by following the instructions on this page.
Do you guys here have any clue with this?
I have exactly the same issue with my friends.
We also have the game shared, but 2 of them don't have the problem (both with similar hardware to the rest of us), so I don't think the problem relies on that.
We tried almost every logical solution (reinstalled the game, restore it, updated GPU drivers and Windows, try with several graphic settings, disable several different services, etc) and nothing seems to work, the game kick us out every 10-15 minutes (20-25 at best).
I think we deserve an answer, it's very frustrating and bothersome try to play and get this erratic behaviour since the game launch...
@pynnn if it’s a family sharing problem, then why is the family sharing works perfectly with forza horizon 3 with more than 4 members? SoT is on the same method as Forza.

Same identical case for me, sharing the game with my two kids and my daughter and I take turns with CTD on our PC while my son has zero issues on the xbox. If I am the only one in the house I can play just fine on my PC so I am thinking it has something to do with being on the same network. Are you all playing on the same network?
I also use family sharing with up to 4 other players at my house on my different PCs at any given time. Some have Game Pass on their accounts, others do not. Like others have witnessed, the window for Sea of Thieves just seems to close out with no message. We seem to commonly run into the issue on the singular AMD machine or the Nvidia laptop. Both have the latest drivers. I've also experienced on my primary Nvidia machine, although it does not commonly happen there.
One oddity I noticed during our last group session over the weekend, was when I switched to a different laptop after my wife stopped playing, the AMD machine stopped crashing. What used to crash once per 30 minutes or an hour went 2 straight hours without a single crash.
The entire session was a single 3 person crew, and after crashing we'd just join back in.
I hope the recent update has corrected this issue, but it seems very particular and may not be easily remedied. This same issue was occurring for our group during the Final Beta, which makes me hesitant to believe it was solely related to family sharing

Yesterday I played roughly 2 hours with random people in matchmaking with no issues, so the problem is merely with friends in a private lobby.
Hope it helps.
We have tried playing solo without others playing the game concurrently and crashes still occur, even while playing only with randoms. So the behaviour of the crashes seem erratic. I cant deny it involves a private lobby with friends but the experience on our end would suggest otherwise.
@corydalord said in Game crashes "randomly" when in-game.:
I am also having the same issue, it works perfectly with two people in a private lobby but as soon as we have 3 all hell breaks loose and we rotate crashing to a grey screen.
I to get a diffrent experience by changing the number of players in the lobby. Like I explained above playing solo didn't make a diffrence for the users who are using my game via the game share, they still crash. But we have noticed that if I and (lets call her player B) play together we seem to have less crashes (from 20-30min to 1-2hours). As soon as either player C or player D joins our crew the crashes happen more frequently. If either player C or player D play together without player B or me they still crash. If player B plays with either player C or player D they also still crash. if player C plays together with me he still crashes. The only real improvement we found is me playing just with player B and no one else (coincidence?).

It wouldn't appear to make a diffrence if its on the same network or not. I play with 3 others. 1 is on my network and the other 2 are not.

@D***y-alone Today (after the update) i went on by myself, played exactly 1 hours and 30 minutes and it did not crashed out. It's something with the servers or the lobbies or i don't know. I've met 2 ship, completed a voyage, died once then respawned without crashes.
I hope they fixed it. Will try tonight and update everyone. UPDATE: Still multiple people crashing

It doesn't seem to be solely related to family sharing, but I did find a change in crash behaviour depending on who'm I was playing with. Could be a coincidence, could be a pattern.
Would like to hear something from the devs. If anyone finds a pattern in the behaviour do let us know, it would also help the devs out.
@muharai Yea same here. Tomorrow when the customer service is back I'm going to request my refund. Which is a darn shame, cause I really wanted this game to succeed and enjoy it. Will check back in a couple of months, maybe worth the purchase then. I would recommend keeping an eye on your refund period. In my country its 2 weeks, you can always repurchase when news hits the game actually works
@pynnn Yes family share does not work. A day or two after luanch i found out about family share, so my much younger half sister who is autistic could play with me. She played with me in the betas. She pretty much just likes to hang out on the ship. Anyway i had no crashing issues until we started playing using the family share using 2 PC's. If I was already playing, the instant she would sign in, it would usually crash my game. It almost seemed like it was on a timer of 15 minutes or so. We would 2man sloop and constantly be joining back into the game. Shorty after joining in, the other would crash out. When she wasn't playing I had no crashing issues. I decided I would just buy another copy for her account, now we can play together and there is no more crashing back and forth.
Sharing doesnt work for 2 PC's. however sharing with an Xbox does work. My brother shares his copy with his son using his xbox 1.
I've fixed it guys. I'm so f*****g proud of myself... after being unable to play for a damn week.
Okay, listen and repeat all my steps:
- Go to the "manage devices" option in your microsoft store and "delete" your pc as one of those devices.
- Log out from your hotmail account (Yes, email provider) and log out too from the store
- Log back again in the store (If you're using a shared account, do it with the shared one, not yours)
- Go back to the game
- Enjoy traveling with your friends again.
IMPORTANT: If you're using a shared account, even if just ONE OF YOUR FRIENDS is bugged, all of you might still crash. If everyone of you do those steps, you'll avoid getting Crash to desktop with no reason.
I've been playing 3h with my friend, the one who were having crashes each 6-8 minutes (and then, i was following him 1 min after or so).
PD: Sorry for my bad english, not my main language, but you can get the basic idea of all the steps. I hope you can fix it as it was for me.
@mint87rx7 hi
yes we are all on the same network.
I did some tests on relevant PCs to see duration time till crash and it was exact 15 mins cycle at least for us.
Probably they check game status such as login status every 15 mins?@D***y-aLoNe hey thanks for the info.
I will try when I am back home.
If it works, all my bannana is yours. :)
