Game crashes "randomly" when in-game.

  • My game crashes when I'm playing with a party. Sadly it usually happens when we are about to deliver our treasures. I lost more money in-game than what I've earned so far, because if you 'disconnect' you lose everything.
    According to their official system requirements, my specs should run the game on RARE graphics at least. I tried lowering things to COMMON or even CURSED but nothing changed. My screen freezes, the sound keeps repeating in a loop and I need to quit to desktop.
    Anyone else experiencing that?

  • @andrethesolo no mine just Grey screens then quits to desk top no errors or anything not even in event viewer

  • It crashes when in party and solo... it's not a system spec related because my PC easily surpass all of them, it's stupid, and the devs didn't even mention the issue once.

    It worked - kindda: now I just get frustated for freezing and losing hours worth of treasure. But hey at least I can drink grog, right?
    Rare is not saying a thing about it, which is a shame. After yelling at them so much on twitter I got Microsoft customer support to sort of kind of maybe try to help me with some "have you done this or that, let us know, count on us". But nothing much useful really.
    Hope that links helps more people. Kind of a magic solution but the guy that came up with it is really glad it's working for more people

    Disable your "Shader Cache" and turn your "Lighting Effects" to "Cursed". It's not the best looking setting but it did resolve the freezing issue for me.

  • That's not the issue we're talking about here, it's not a video driver crash, and we can start the game and play, the issue is a random cash to desktop with a gray screen without any error message.

    At this point I lost my hopes, I think we wasted our money and I'm never gonna buy a game from Rare or Microsoft Store again, it's just so much b******t, f**k this.

  • I paid 60$ and shared the game with my friend, the game kept crashing until yesterday I bought a month of Xbox game pass subscription, Now I can play without crashes but just for a month.
    I hope devs fix the issue as soon as possible.

  • Got the same issue today! The sessions in the last few days where crash free but now it crashes every 15 min....
    I twittered to Microsoft with a link to this thread. I will annoy them until they do something :D

  • Same issue since launch, in the alpha 0 errors, in the beta 0 errors, launched the game and i cant play ¬¬ random crashes

  • @yannick199 it isn't microsofts issue it is Rares. Rare needs to learn how to patch properly.

  • I was tempted to post that Arnold gif where he's like "Welcome to the party!" but I'm too lazy.
    Most of you seem to be experiencing the known driver crash issues. I'll save you the trouble of reading all the topics.

    AMD: Turn effects down to "common" and turn "shader cache" off in your driver settings. Also disable or uninstall RePlay.

    NVIDIA: Turn off "Shadowplay" in your drivers. If you have your shaders in "Optimize for Compute" turn it off.

    These tips just reduce the frequency of crashes. Crashes still occur less often on both my AMD and NVIDIA systems.

  • @capnlimbless It's not a driver crash issue. if it was it would give the error "Nvidia graphics driver stopped responding ..." the way to get this error is to just simply overclock the GPU.
    I tried SoT with 2 PCs and a gaming Laptop all with the same account I purchased the game (sharing the game with my friend) and regardless of the device, it crashed every 10 minutes. So I concluded this might be a family sharing problem so I got the game on another account without sharing it and it worked.
    We haven't received any answers from the devs at least acknowledging the problem, and it's now a 120 replied topic.
    Congratulations Rare for not giving a s**t.

  • All right guys, after a lot of communication with the MS-Twitter-Support everything works fine for me, but I don't know exactly what fixed the issue.

    First I made a new User-Acc with admin rights and installed SoT there too. Everything works great at the new acc and another problem with Netflix was solved too.
    So you should try that! If it works there something is wrong at the main acc but what exactly is difficult to say, I don't know it either at my setup...
    BUT I think it has something to do with the sound device settings. Try to disable or enable the exclusive mode for apps at your sound device.

    I hate when something was fixed but I don't know why... sorry if that doesn't worked for you...

  • @dragonskissxxx well, Microsoft helped me and they are the publisher on their platform so they are responsible too! And they are always answering on twitter, so why not asking them...

  • @pynnn Yeah, the forum is buggy too :D Let's see what the update gives us. I fear that Rare is going to abandon this game in a couple of months.

  • Game's still unplayable, saw the patch notes and had a glimmer of hope, but I only got half way through a voyage before the game silently crashed out.

  • I don't have crash but the game is less and less playable the more I play, playing exclusively solo since beginning.

    windows 10 64x, low config (GTX 660, i5 2380p 3.1 gHz, 8g RAM)
    steady 40 fps at medium settings

    At first I thought it was lag spikes happenning every now and then for my ping frequently skyrocket to double if not quadruple, thus a server side issue. Yet it appears the hard stuttering and sometimes freezing happenning with roughly every lag spike is due to the game saturating my disk for no reason up to 100% every now and then, which results in lag spikes, thus a client side issue.

    I also noticed the stuttering and the freezing goes crazy worse when I encounter other players, making the practice of pvp sadly quite a no-no possibility since the last updates.

    Hopefully I did not pay and not going to consider buying for a long time if ever I will, considering all the technical issues I've got since beginning (game pass specific errors and the such).

  • The recent patches have messed something up for me. I've had it freeze twice and had one crash to desktop with a Video Driver issue. The game then proceeds to inform me that it's my fault and that I need to update to the latest drivers. I have the latest drivers.....

    Also, I've been getting some massive lag spikes. I turned the in-game Ping Counter to capture some data. Occasionally, I'll get stuck on a server where my ping remains at 250+. I thought it might be Comcast C*****s or my own hardware router/modem but it's not. I don't know what is causing it, but I verified that it isn't from my end or caused by my ISP.

  • No luck after newest patch, even though it says they fixed some client crash issues. I hope this lie of a game dies out along with Rare. They should've stopped at Nuts & Bolts ell oh ell

  • @muharai Me and so many people have the same problem, Microsoft / Rare know the problem, I opened ticket, normaly its for family account, i belive they dont give a permission for you play with a friends, if the robot found 2 accounts in the same game, they crash your game without error(absurd when you buy the game with a family account) this make the game unplayable, and they dont do nothing for repair, they say me "Our test team is aware of this issue and are working on a We hope to solve this in a future update. " But its a easy solution, change the permisions .... We need make a massive denounce ...

  • Any Xbox One X players with this problem? I crash to dashboard after about 15 minutes of solo sloop play. I tried reset-console-to-default/re-add profile, hard reboot/power-cycle, clear MAC Address and re-installing the game. I still have issues.

  • Anything in the logs? Run menu / Windows key + R: eventvwr

    Check application and system logs, then Google the game-related errors you see. Might be something simple like having to reinstall a vc++ runtime or something.

  • Same here. Random crashes after about an hour of play. Full galleon crew but not in party. Nvidia gtx 480 and all drivers are up to date. Please address this issue Devs as this game is a lot of fun when it works. Thanks

  • @medusotriocular That's definitely not the problem, as I don't use family sharing at all and it constantly crashes. This is something else.

    There are several problems including ones that supposed to be related to family share and video card driver or something else.

    I have been here waiting for official comment whether I could rely on family share to play with my 2 other family members or not.
