  • A New Video was just released with a ton of answers as to why you may be having some issues, and explaining what the team is currently dealing with!

    Highlights:

    1. 3-4 Times the amount of players than the Final Beta
    2. 5000 Players joining per minute at times
    3. Over 1,000,000 Unique Users in the first 48 hours.
    4. Gold/Rep Delay is temporary as it's a delay in messaging within the game. (Don't reset, keep playing, potential fix before peak time tonight)
    5. Delayed Achievements (XBL Achievements) also delayed due to previous issue, those achievements will now start flowing.
    6. Items not appearing in radial menu, this will require a patch, early next week potentially for a fix.

    The team is still working 24/7 to fix any and all issues that are being occurred, they're aware of the main concerns.

  • I really appreciate that Rare is continuing this level of transparency post launch. More videos like this please!

    I will say, the problem with their advice regarding 2. Delayed Rewards, is that (especially in the early game) it makes ranking up in individual companies challenging/inefficient, because short of quitting out and re-joining to receive your reputation you're essentially stuck playing lower level voyages.

    You need to be able to receive that reputation otherwise you can't really efficiently make progress in a given company.

    So while from a technical perspective I appreciate and understand the explanation, I don't think it's really feasible advice for most people, unless you're making the broader suggestion simply to not worry about making progress in these early days.

    On a completely unrelated note, that handwriting on the white board is impeccable.

  • Pls, address Splash screen crash on PC. I dont know what to do anymore. Trying everything at support site, reddit, etc..

  • i need to state that delayed reward is gotten allot worse .. over 24 hours and still not received any gold or increased rep with any factions. So its not only delayed it seems to be lost for good in some cases

  • People forget this stuff about some of the older/ bigger games out there. Wow was crazy buggy/ unstable/ clunky at the beginning. It took a long time for it to become the polished thing that it is. So now when people compare a launch like this to a launch like Overwatch or whatever, they are forgetting that even big companies with a history of doing this over and over get overwhelmed with scale.

    Very shocked to see something like this from developers. I didn't expect to see anything other than: "They're aware of the main concerns."

    This shows great promise that they are going to actually be more involved in the community than most games. Also super nice to hear the actual causes of the issues.

    I didn't expect a smooth launch, especially once the free trial with game pass was announced.

    Here's hoping that the fixes work!

    Yes!!! I am super happy they did this as i was expecting these issues at launch. However i was getting salty about the flow of information. All i can say is they need to keep up with these on a daily basis adleast intill thing cool down. And lastly i suggest the go home get some sleep because there minds are in the present and i fear things will only get worse this weekend. Like i said i expected these things on launch day so i didnt take off work, however i did take friday and monday off so please be ready to be on the ball this weekend.

    It makes me wonder how they didn't anticipate this level of traffic, and also exactly what level of traffic they were anticipating. 3-4x beta doesn't sound like a tremendous amount for launch day of a full release.

    I am honestly displeased at the moment, and will be until I get my Black Dog pre-order rewards. Just bummed that they can't get this stuff to me faster, since I was told I'd have an Xbox Live message, but there isn't one, and support just tells me it'll be about a week before this is fixed.

    I get it, but it sucks to be so excited about a game, and then be on the outside (couldn't get in when launch rolled to my region, then didn't even get what I paid early for).

    Blah, blah, blah... arrrrrrrr... still love all you little rotten pirates.

  • I’ve been a very senior level sofrware architect and engineer for 22years, the whiteboard made me chuckle a bit. I’ve been in your spot and know the stress of a major release.

    I tip my cap to you Rare and the devs in the war-room working 24/7. Your dedication, opem communication, and acknowledgement of the customer is AAA.

    Microsoft should be proud to have such a talented team in their org.

  • @lucid-stew I would disagree there, I would think that they were maybe expecting to double the final beta numbers at best. For the final Beta, although it wasn't an open beta, you still did not need to purchase the game, and a lot of people were playing without even having pre-ordered as they were in the Insider Hub or Founder programme. Given gamepass has a 14-day trial and that essentially makes the first 14 days free, I would say that those two points wash out. From there I wouldn't expect the player base and demand to grow 3-4 times over the course of one week prior to launch, 2 times maybe.

    Understandably so, 100% fair play to both for getting on top of this and not burying heads in the sand, can't remember this level of transparency from a developer!

  • @dhg-ixxrmacxxi It's not like they really advertised the final beta, so why would you anticipated that having a load anywhere near your launch load? They didn't even announce the final beta until right before hand. The launch date has been know for months. Most people don't follow games closely enough to even be aware of betas, but they can certainly see a date on ads on their screen or at the local Gamestop.

  • Right, I’ve had 3 friends preorder this with me since last year. They’re all playing fine. I installed my game, picked my pirate and clicked play game. It then comes up with the loading screen and writing along the bottom of the screen. At that point it makes a buzzing sound and my whole console shuts off. Completely off. It’s not my console as I have played other discs since. I uninstalled that copy and reinstalled it and same thing happened!! I took my disc back to Game this morning and exchanged the disc, installing it for the 3rd time. Loaded up, picked my pirate, clicked join game and AGAIN, on the same screen it shuts my console down!! Has anyone else encountered this problem. Can’t find help ANYWHERE. I’m at the point now where I’m gonna f**k this game off and forget about it!!!

  • Its great that their being so open about the issues and communicating with us.
    They both look like they've been awake for 48 hours, Glad to hear the team is working hard, not that I expected any less from them!
    Hopefully they can get some well deserved rest soon!

  • Did they fix up the update services so we do not need to re-download the whole game again? I remember them saying this was a bit difficult a few weeks back.
