Bug: Ship randomly sinking and this time I'm irate.

  • So I complained about this over the betas and it's apparently still an issue at launch. Sometimes when you are near an outpost, your ship randomly sinks. It doesn't matter if it has ever touched a cannonball or is completely dry of even rainwater. It just sinks in less than 20 seconds and cannot be bailed. Nobody voted to scuttle, no rocks were hit. Boat just sinks.

I was willing to just ignore it in the beta, but this time it happened in the worst possible circumstances. We had spent the past hour trying to clear a skeleton fortress between lazy jerks trying to rob us on the last wave. We finally beat off all the griefers, collected probably 15-20k in rewards, went to a completely deserted outpost.

We were coming near the outpost when another ship spawned in next to us. Our boat instantly sank, dumping our treasure in the water. They gleefully shot us in the back as we glitched around doing cartwheels in our boat that should not be sinking and is now rolling over.

Some jerks just got the loot we sweated for, because of a sloppy bug that literally gutted us in front of them when they logged in. Don't know what else to say besides a string of expletives and complaints about developers who just download Unreal toolkit and click some drop-downs, without actually knowing how to code. Seriously how can you launch with that bug, while making almost daily videos patting yourself on the back for reinventing the wheel?

  • @capnlimbless Hmm that is weird, i had it in the beta to and filed a bug report and they said the issue had been fixed. Must of reared its head again :/

Best bets just filling a bug report for support and trying to give as much info as possible. :)

  • @capnlimbless I had this happen to me today too! Except I was on a normal island, not an outpost. I scratched my ship up a bit when I docked, but I checked the whole thing over several times to make sure I'd patched up all the holes. It wasn't taking on water and I didn't have that silly weeping treasure chest so I thought I was safe. I come back a few minutes later to find my ship gone with a mermaid waiting for me. :(

While it's possible that I might have missed a hole, I swear that I double and triple checked it. I was also on a sloop and those things are tiny so it's really hard to miss any holes.

  • Same here, happened to me twice today on Sloops. Once while just sitting on the ship talking to my crewmate, and once in the middle of a voyage. This never happened to me in any of the beta tests.

  • After yesterday's experiences, I'm seriously debating fighting M$oft for a refund. I love playing the game, but here we are at launch and my AMD drivers are still crashing (which AMD and Rare both admit is an issue, not related to our cards), servers are still a mess and this bug stole all my progress once I finally managed to get on and finish anything without crashing.

I don't think that's worth full price. Thinking it would be better to wait and buy it for $20 6 months from now when everything is fixed.

  • Based on the description, I wonder if this is some sort of "telefragging" situation, where the new ship attempts to spawn partially in the "space" your ship currently occupies, causing catastrophic damage to your ship in the process?

I only wonder, because you mention that it happened when a new boat spawned next to you, and it sounds like the physics of your ship also glitched at the same time?

That could have been the case this time, but the other times it happened we were not actually near another ship. I've also seen it happen to my ship when I was the one joining, but the other ship was just approaching quite a distance away. I spawned, look toward my ship, see another one approaching, then mine sinks without them firing a shot or anything.

  • it doesn't sound too different from one i encountered yesterday, i just logged in and my solo sloop was in a slightly odd position a little away from the dock, no damage and the anchor was down, but it sank. perhaps it is an issue with spawning inside of stuff or stuff spawning inside of it.

  • I lost one ship in my initial spawn this way, nobody around, anchor down, I was collecting bananas and stuff and when I go to dock dramatic music and cinematic sinking.

In my case it was hilarious, in yours not so much.

  • This happened to me yesterday. Buddy and I had just spent 3-4 hours grinding and had filled our hold with skulls/chests. We had no damage to the ship (sloop), were on our way to an outpost (in the middle of the open ocean) and all of a sudden we're underwater and our ship is sinking with all of its beautiful loot. I turned the game off and havent turned it back on lol Sent an email to Rare just to see if theyre willing to help or offer any insight on whether or not this is fixed.

  • as of today i confirm this has not been fixed, i was holding the chest of sorrow after retrieving 5 chickens and holding the ladder so the chest dont cry on the sloop then all of a sudden the sound of the sloop sinking..... w*f ? no sound of water pouring inside the hull, no holes, nothing but of course i lost da five chickens a skull maybe 2 chests including the sorrow one and the will to keep going so i quited the game and well..... i m disgusted. So is that what's this game about overall ? disgusting? i mean i can hardly handle the improved CHEATING AI developpers implementation in most of the game now but this is beyond cheating its either vicious or the dumbest mistake for game creators! Its like the game is still BETA

  • @capnlimbless it keeps repeating everywhere: theu shouldn't have launched as is!

it is still a BETA title IMO. 3 out of 10 games I spawn in to a sinking ship (while @ port).

  • @capnlimbless

On Thursday night, my friend and I came out of the tavern (just starting the game) to our sloop sinking for no apparent reason. We had to then visit the mermaid, and then we spawned on some island rather than an outpost. Not an ideal start.

  • @markglow this is exactly what I'm talking about. Happens way to often for a "Finished AAA" game. annoying and p**s poor programming.

Pretty certain holding the chest of sorrows on the ladder now causes it to fill and has done for a few weeks

At least it didn't work for me last week

  • I've had it happen to me a couple times, but it's been inconsequential for the most part. I just get my voyages and go to the mermaids start doesn't really matter unless you're out to do merchant quest though your story sounds particularly tragic. Never had a ship spawn on top me. I don't think it's near as severe a issue as some make it out, but as with all bugs it should be fixed.

  • @noruas lets not get too excited tho i guess they will patches this madness.... hopefully-ish!

  • My ship sunk twice for no reason this weekend. The fist time was as I went to get back on the ship after collecting skulls. So shortly after on my new ship I just left port I had to taken any damage from anything. I was sailing in open ocean when all of a sudden my ship stopped. I first thought Kraken but nothing. I went down in the hold and it was dry. Then BAM my ship was sinking. No water on board and no holes

  • How do you make a pirate angry?

    Take away the "p"

    (Sorry, couldn't help myself)

  • @capnlimbless I'd like to see the clip. Sounds interesting

  • This happened to me on 6/2/2018. I run a tight ship, NO LEAKS, but this bug persists. I could have been a wealthy pirate by now if it weren't for this nonsense.

Before the pre-Hungering update, I remember reading a forum thread/message board about people having this same issue. Someone mentioned that if you lose connection to the server, even for a few seconds, the ship goes through its normal function of sinking itself when the Captain has exited the game.

Prior to the Hungering update, only once did the ship unsink itself, mid-sinking, as if to correct itself seeing that I did not disconnect. This is a major bug that needs to be addressed as a "Known Issue" because it still happens.

I've also been told that the network NAT type can also cause this issue, intermittently, depending on how restrictive it is.

  • This happened twice to my friends and I yesterday 15/06/2018; Clear flat water, no rain, no hull damage, no weeping chest, no enemies, no other players - all of a sudden, none of the pulleys or helm could be interacted with, the ship flipped on its side and sank. We lost 6 skulls and 5 chests after playing for 2hrs. Not impressed, there was zero transparency surrounding why we sank. No feedback, no visual/audio ques - nothing; It just sank.

  • i get irritated with randomly falling through my ship. either reading the map or go to bail out water using a sloop. always happens at the worst possible times

  • This literly happens to me today, I was so confused
