10+ hours in IPG... needs some filter please

  • been at the IPG now for over 10 hours. spent 5 hours ight at luanch last night before i got to tired shut the game off and went to bed. Been another 5 hours now after i woke up to try again. Really wish i could just re-use my final beta pirate, he was perfect.

There are a few things i wont budge on.
    Very skinny, no pot belly
    young, no grey hair
    male only,
    tan to dark skin.
    black hair
    one white eye.

after 10 hours, none with all this criteria has appeared. I just keep spinning till a see a male thats skinny. I can refresh the carousel and see every pirate every 5 seconds, thats a LOT of pirates ive looked through, i only stop when i see the skinny bodies i like, which seem to only come once every 30 minutes or so. lots of skinny females i see.

If there was a few simple filters on the IPG it would help a lot. The filter would not effect any fine tuning on the models just very general things so the looks are still random, but greatly narrows what you are looking for down. Ive just about given up on the IPG but dont want to restart all my progress again when it comes to delete my pirate. I just want to play at this point.

I think these are the only filters it needs if you want to use them or not

    Male/Female
    Skin Tone
    Hair color

just these 3 things would greatly effect down time in the IPG

  • I was one hour, most of it stuck only with two females, finally I had a selection of five and chose one. I am more or less happy with my final lady but I know that I would design some details different here and there if I had the option.

It was hard, IPG is fantastic as a freaky horror show casting, haha. I understand the reasons for his feature, but my god, it's a chore if you love to design your dreamed character.

  • Im not picky about the facial features, i want an ugly pirate who stands out because of that, but I want to be very skinny, which is very very rare.

In all the scale tests, etc. it usually only took me anywhere from 10-30 minutes, even the perfect one i got on final beta only took like 10 minutes. The IPG has changed, the normal avg looking women used to be very rare, now they're common

  • Same here, it took me a while when i finally made a choise, i would have prefered black hair but the chanse of finding a char i wanted that looked like that one again with black hair was too small i just went with it.

Hopefully we can change hair colour at some point, that would be nice!

  • @nanach

Spend 10 minutes. Flagged one until I saw something close, then replaced it a couple more times till I found the 'Big Bertha' character I wanted.

Once I got into the game, stripped her down to the rages I wanted, gave her a mustache (which you'll never find it the IPG) and changed her hair.

She's perfectly wretched! Terrifying in a totally different sense.

  • Spent an hour and a half. Never found one I really liked and settled on something more generic than I would have liked. I hope to Poesidon there will be a way to reroll in future and not through micro-transactions.

  • It took me a good while, I finally settled for a guy with the right body type, skin tone, hair color, and decent facial features. If I were as picky as I would've preferred I would probably still be cycling through choices.

  • I get the impression its like rolling the perfect stats in an old school rpg for some of you. Accept imperfection or prepare for madness.

  • If you are spending ten hours trying to randomly roll a character, you have bigger issues than the IPG.

  • This is a game. Sorry, most average everyday people don't spend more than 20 minutes selecting their pirate. The fact that you spent 10 hours on IPG is because of your own pickiness. Don't argue that this is a Game problem. look at how many players actually played the game yesterday. The funny part is this game is 1st person and you will almost NEVER see your pirate.

Quit complaining and if you stopped playing games because of character selection you would miss out on great games like Mario, Assassin's Creed, or Laura Croft games because they have a predefined main character. Go enjoy Skyrim or sims for their character creators.

  • 10+ hours to pick a character? How truly sad that is!

  • @nightmare247365 It's a game where the only rewards are cosmetic. That may matter to different degrees with different people, but the extrinsic motivation in the game revolves entirely around your character's appearance. All feedback is useful.

I doubt most people spend 20 minutes creating their character. only people who don't care. Most people care about personalization. There is a reason to complain about this feature. Do not discount other people's opinions because you have no cares yourself. Most games have character creators and people take time making characters. It's normal to hope this had a better one. Random generation IS slower at getting exact.

And if you rarely see your pirate in this game, why the focus on cosmetics? Why would anyone care what they look like? Why even bother with an IPG in the first place? Well people can see themselves, so they want to look how they want. Don't act all tough because you don't care how you look.

  • Different strokes for different folks. The entire point of this game is cosmetic progression. People are now realizing what I was saying about all in the final beta and what not. This game needs a way to edit features.

If you don' care about the features of your pirate then the IPG is fine for you. But for folks that want a customized character to look like them or have a specific look, the IPG punishes you.

The excuse that everyone would just look like jack sparrow is unwarranted as well b/c Rare could easily make a selection screen with predefined features to pick from. Which btw, that's all the IPG is doing regardless. There's nothing int he features I saw that even remotely looked close to Jack Sparrow.

So Rare that way could keep that from happening and still give control to the player to customize their pirate as they see fit. I know some players wanted a pirate that looked like them. Seriously what's wrong with that?

I wanted a female that looked close to the red head pirate from the pirates of the caribbean ride. Luckily, after 2 hours I finally got a skinny red head female with dark eye shadow and dark lipstick like I wanted. So in the end I got my female red head pirate I wanted. But it took 2 hours to get there. It could've taken me less than 10 mins if I could pick the features I wanted from the start.

  • honestly i would prefer if the generator were generating characters based on the one characters body group you have favored but with a few alterations to make them stand out, so that you don't have to constantly spam re roll til you find another character with the same body group as the one favored,

The best I can recommend out of experience is to look for a character you like but feel like something is missing, favorite that character and move the camera so that that character is hidden, so you only see all the other 7 pirates you will continue to generate,

Then roll for new pirates til you find some that match that characters body group and compare their distinct features, and if you like the new one more, favor it and remove the older, repeat til you're satisfied with your pirate, that way you can effectively reduce the time you need overall in looking for the character you want, imagining what items you want that pirate to wear also helps significantly additionally.

  • after 13 hours, i finally got a pirate that fit all the criteria. However hes not as ugly as i would have hoped for, just kinda avg looking. was hoping for something like a crooked nose or scarred face. The only flaw he has is his white eye, but thats enough to keep him and not keep trying again.

Madness it is. 5 and a half hours of Infinite Pain Generator finally got me a normal looking female character lol

  • wow 13 hrs....absolute b*****s!

  • I spent 3 but daaaamn dude. Ik the feels. Ipg is a living hell.

  • I can't agree anymore I actually hate the IPG. If I didn't like Rare and was a loyal fan and loved the other gameplay I would actually refund the game due to the IPG.

  • @jamiethe1egend

Posted this in another similar thread (there's about 8 of these now), that once you get in game, change your hair style, facial hair, and clothes/appendages, what you picked in the character generator doesn't look anything the same.

Focus should be on body type, gender, and skin color. Everything else is easily changed in game.

I also have a sneaking suspicion that the game shop that will be available in 3 months will offer many of these changes for a price.

Heck.... after 3 months, you just might find the 'less than perfect' character you rolled as grown on you.

  • Remove IPG and call it "randomize" (because that's what it really is) and give us proper character creator. Arguments that "everyone would be blackbeard if we have character creator" are utterly stupid. BTW mate don't rush, you won't be able to play anyway. I literally took half day off work to play with my wife in SoT (working 12h a day so can't play any othrr time) spent half day in the infinite pain generator and now we can't join the servers. Hooray.

  • This game is built around connecting with your pirate and cosmetic upgrades. It is perfectly reasonable to want to have control over what your character looks like.

  • @stem589 I've been playing since the the first beta, you just pulled a TL:DR
