Two copies of game, can only play one? PLEASE HELP!

  • So I bought SoT on Windows 10 store, it auto downloaded to my xbox also. I then bought a physical disk copy of the game. I have gold on my main account, I made a second account on the xbox to play the physical copy, but it WILL NOT open. It says "game in use". I read on microsofts website gold membership is shared across all accounts on your xbox. What am I doing wrong here?

    My setup is like this:
    PC:

    • Bought SoT digital download in microsoft store

    Xbox One:

    • Physical disk copy of game
    • using 2nd account on xbox (main account has gold)

Why am I unable to play the game when I own 2 copies, have 2 separate microsoft accounts, and am sharing gold membership to my 2nd account...?

  • I'd like to know how to do this too. Someone said you could play the game with multiple profiles with one copy. I'd like to play with my kid, him on xbox, me on pc, not sure how to get that working.

  • @thegreatestmoo have you made sure to sign out of the account(s) on the other device?

double check, only Account 1 is signed into EITHER the PC or Xbox and only Account 2 is signed into the other one

Yeah this fixed it, somehow both of my accounts were signed into xbox at the same time.

A good question, and one that might be relevant to me as I'll be doing the same thing this afternoon to get my kids copy of the game going on their Xbox.

  • @thegreatestmoo had the same thing happen during one of the scale tests, I thought signing into one signed me out of the other but apparently not. confused me for a while!

  • n.b. don’t think you needed to buy the second physical copy...

You can share Windows 10 store purchases with family members, and anyway, Xbox play anywhere / digital purchases come with a home console and roaming license.

The home console license can be played by anyone using your home Xbox while you play on another device...

Blog outlining the process to share store apps can be found here..

(Though you can also just log out of the Xbox Live app profile on your own windows account and then sign in to your kids Xbox Live logon instead - just right click the profile icon in the top left of the Xbox Live app)

You set "X" console as a home console of the profile "Y" who purchase stuff. Whoever will use that xbox will have access to all your purchased games and subs. Profile "Y" doesn't need to be signed in on that machine to make it work. Then just sign in with that profile "Y" on the other machine and you will be able to play all your games there too. I alwayd buy 1 copy and share it with my wife. We can play together that way.
