Stance on ship camping?

  • Ship camping is when you board an enemy ship and continuously kill the crew as they spawn until they log out due to frustration, and not sinking the ship until they finally give up and quit.

What is the community's stance on this behaviour? Is it all fair game? Frowned upon? Tolerated?

What about Rare? Will they stop you from doing it?

  • @notsid-probably I think it’s apart of the game now. If you can’t kill one guy on you’re ship then they deserve to keep your boat.

  • @beanmariocow really bad point sorry. A pair of guys boarded my sloop last night and I would only spawn in 1 of 2 places, both of which they were pre-aimed at waiting for me to spawn back in. I kept spawning in front of them so they could just 1-shot me the second I spawned in

  • @beanmariocow sweet. Me and my friends were planning on doing this to sloops we find. Just 4 of us ravaging those 2 players in a totally unfair firing range type deal. We found out that you can kill them before they even get the chance to move their character l**o. You gotta shoot at the right time and you'll kill them before they're even out of black screen.

    I love ruining people's fun! Don't you?

  • It's part of the game, and you can avoid it by voting to scuttle the ship from the Ferry of the Damned.

You ruin your own fun if you don't make use of the mechanics given to you.

  • @face-0-o that's the spirit! Why play fair when ye can shoot a guy in the back again and again knowing he can't possibly dodge it, let alone fight back?

Now you're thinking like a pirate!

@Face-0-o said my point. If they boarded you and doesn’t sink you, then you can sink it yourself (if you’re completly useless, like getting shot one second after you spawn)l

  • @face-0-o I'm not mad! Pwn all the noobs!!

  • @notsid-probably You seem to be ignoring the fact that you can easily get out of that situation by scuttling. Furthermore, if you let a galleon get up right on you and board you...well...

  • Stance means nothing. It's gonna happen regardless.

  • @elite-assasin87 yeah I hope those stupid noobs get so mad that they uninstall xD so epic LAWLZ!! They're such bads.. I mean this game has been out for a few hours now and they let themselves be boarded?! They deserve to have zero fun!

  • It's griefing provided by griefers thorough the utilisation of camping in an unintentional way.

Pure PvP players don't camp out players on their ships because there is no challenge and it doesn't provide them with the fantasy context they are after. Also the scuttling can be abused.

Here's what I would do. Following is from Reddit:

Been thinking how to mitigate frustration here. I think I found the solution that has the highest probability to fit the game as well as giving satisfaction across the board.

    Issues | Shamed And Abused

    • trolling via spawncamping
    • wasting progression
    • treasure does not interest trolls
    • no PvP challenge due abused scuttling

    Solution | Replacing Fantasy Context

    • ferry locked ghost mode for timed scouting
    • pity of the seas (wrath of the damned)
    • allows players to keep onboard treasure
    • overboard treasure is lost to the takers

    Premise

This approach forces all PvP players to have a deadline to fetch those treasure chests they earned fair and square, but since trolls and griefers don't care about the treasure, player whose treasure it is should have a chance to keep some of their progression. However, actual scuttling sinks the ship which is an issue because sinking allows loot to float to the surface meaning the player whose ship it is will get nothing back except their ship.

Pity of The Seas / Wrath of The Damned

Replacement for the current scuttling feature. Solution is to change the fantasy context because the current one doesn't work exactly as intended; allows trolling. Therefore changing from a mere sinking ship to a maelstrom devoured ship that pops from another maelstrom elsewhere works a lot better. The ship disappears anyway, but doesn't deliver when it comes to believable immersion. However, thorough this revised context the immersion is safe and the ship doesn't sink, but is transferred elsewhere by the sea herself recognising the agony their beloved children suffer in the hands of ill-driven 'greenbeards'. Any loot that the players leave for the maelstrom to devour will be transported to the other location with the ship.

    Mechanism

All the devs need is to code a maelstrom to form under the ship that is been harassed after the captain of the ship asks a favour from the ferry captain before the whole crew respawns from the ferry. This way the feature cannot be abused by players that try to avoid PvP contact while having no loot and it allows targets of harassment keep some of their progression, but also rewards quick enough players to whom loot really means something. The only ones getting nothing are the trolls and griefers whose sole purpose is to break both PvE and PvP players. Plus, in case the ship is jammed the crew can still drown in order to go to the ferry and unjam the ship. This also stays in line with some of the real behaviour pirates had. Instead of getting killed by a crew sailing under a bloody red flag, pirates often jumped overboard even if it meant certain drowning.

Cure for griefing, trolling and toxicity is to force griefers, trolls and those toxic avengers to play PvP at least like a pure PvP player. Nothing makes them feel worse than to be treated as good people.

  • Some crews do it just to give them time to loot chests and supplies. I don't have a problem with this since They're just working against the game's respawn system and will eventually leave.

Those doing it for fun are just being jerks. It's unfortunate, but as stated previously, scuttling the ship from the ferry will get you unstuck.

  • @notsid-probably so you’re not actually here to give criticism and have a discussion, you’re just here to attention seek? This isn’t the forum for that.

  • @elite-assasin87 I'm here to pwn noobs and chew bubble gum. And I'm all outta gum.

  • He's trying to be overly ironic. Happens when someone initiates a poor argument and doesn't like the answers he receives countering it.

Next, he'll start correcting your grammar and questioning your intelligence based on that. This is standard linear defeatist progression.

  • @face-0-o now why would you try to slander me with such accusations?

  • there is always some kinda of argument or drama in these forums we have the lovers an the haters of the game its nonstop just for once compromise on something

  • @notsid-probably How have so many forumers completely missed what you're doing in this thread? Man, you and I are cut from the same cloth. Funny stuff fella. You get all my upvotes.

  • @notsid-probably If you do not like it, leave the session and join a new one. I laugh when I kill a guy 4 times and he comes back for a 5th death.

  • @stephenfarren I, too, laugh when I get to deny someone the ability to play the game. They should really just uninstall. Then when nobody is playing this game because I've driven them all away, I'll have the open sea all to myself!

It's idiots like you that ruin your n the game for everyone.

It's one thing to kill someone to steal their treasure, but to just kill a solo player because you get off on it is just disgusting.

You can tell the kids that are too immature for these types of games, and if you're an adult, then you really need help.

  • Why would you do that, instead of scuttling your ship and getting a new one somewhere else?

The game should give you an automatic actual prompt to scuttle and start over, when you've died for the third time in rapid succession, but even despite that - you can scuttle it yourself.

But yes - these kinds of players are the lowest form of life. It's a hard thing to police, short of changing the actual respawn mechanic to something else.

  • Eventually they will probably make a spawn immunity for cases like this. So that for a few seconds you cant be hurt so you have a chance to respawn and act accordingly. Its DAY 1..Everyone needs to chill out.

  • @notsid-probably But the only people that will quit are the PvEerS. So problem solved. No more meaningless whining.

  • @captnhempleg Won’t happen lol.

  • @sir-green-day Too immature to play video games!! I laughed so hard at this statement!!

  • @sir-green-day whoosh

  • If you can't defend your ship, scuttle it. This is a non-issue.

  • It's cancer. Camping ship, mermaid or even the island they saw you stop at is all f****d up BS.

These are the big issues with PvP imo. The game either needs a way to discourage wasting your time repeat killing and camping, or there should be a built in mechanic that auto puts you in a new server without deleting your voyage if something along those lines is occurring.

  • @mythicalfable This, actual soloution a instead of accepting game flaws.

  • @notsid-probably It can be frustrating. I know I felt a little bad yesterday because my ship was lost while attacking an opponent, so I stole his ship to get to an outpost and sell his chests. This meant I was spawn killing him while trying to get there. I guess this is a little different to your specific description but it is possible to misread the intentions of your opponent, could they have been trying to achieve something other than spawn killing?

  • @sir-green-day I think you missed the sarcasm in his post
