  • Overwatch offers cosmetic only items for it's in-game currency as well. It keeps a level playing field for all players and encourages the player to improve their gameplay.

  • Cosmetics with tactical value. Just wanted to clarify that.

  • @hoodoo
Didn’t realize overwatch was an open world sandbox

u cant compare it to overwatch because overwatch has no PvE content.

  • @hoodoo

But it is competitive, and has a lot of content due to the different playstyles and different characters meta. Rainbow Six Siege is the same way. This game, however, is a casual game, with little to no content EXCEPT for what you create yourself. There’s voyages, and PvP, but my most memorable experiences were things that I organized with a few players, or when I allied with some random crew and we dominated the ocean. Those aren’t things that Rare put in as a mechanic, that’s me making my own fun. Rare had nothing to do with it, except providing the platform, and I could easily enjoy myself on some other game with friends.

Technically... not going to go deep here, but instead remind that the argument does not rely on the genre to make the case.

Technically you will have to compare them to know the differences. Not comparing them results to nothing.

  • Wow, what a funny, original, clever joke. I'm so proud of you for coming up with that all on your own. How great!

  • @mythicalfable i payed 39.99€ for Overwatch how much did u pay for Sea of Thieves ?

  • @kailmenoke 10 dollars. Now what?

  • @rager82 sagte in No Man´s Sea:

good joke, 10 dollars a month if u have x box pass

  • @kailmenoke and? 10 dollars and i can play the game. A month worth of fun for 10 dollars at a game this amazing is a great deal.

  • @kailmenoke Sea of Thieves was only ever going to have horizontal progression and not vertical progression making pirates better than one-another. All pirates have been designed to be equal and that is very unlikely to change.

  • @dhg-ixxrmacxxi This would be a good argument if there actually was any horizontal progression in the game. Yet again, cosmetic customization is not horizontal progression. It is not progression at all.

  • @elzamvb you’re progressing through the companies to get variety different customization options that you could not obtain unless you progressed. By definition this is horizontal progression as it’s not getting you better things, just better looking things.

Soo.. like this one, huh? /shrug

  • @elzamvb Can you explain what is? Not being critical, I've just never really come across the terms before so figured cosmetic upgrades fit the "horizontal progression" mold.

  • @dhg-ixxrmacxxi That's the filling of an experience bar. That's not horizontal progression and at best, it's vertical progression.

Horizontal progression would be actual ship customization, along the lines of EV training in Pokemon. This game has no horizontal progression by the definition of horizontal progression.

  • @elzamvb the other big difference here is that No Mans Sky had a lot of promises that they themselves made to the community, and almost all of those promises failed or fell short. Rare on the other hand never promised or said anything that is not currently in game or been confirmed as coming shortly after launch.

  • Buddy, you don't know anything of what is the No Man Sky issues, do you?
Cuz actually it has nothing in common.

No Man Sky issues were about broken promises.
Sea of Thieves issues are about people not being able to read/watch developers talks.

  • @DHG-IXxRMACxXI

They did promise a much larger map at launch, as well as some other things a few months ago. Much larger as in 4 times the size of the current map. I believe it was in an Inn-Side story, but I don’t really remember. All I remember is it being said, so I might be wrong.

  • @deadtree-alive The map is much larger than it originally was, the Sandy Shores used to be the only region in the game nd it has expanded over 3x since. Also the borders may not have grown but the amount of islands and outposts has grown significantly in recent months as well.

And yet, an article made more than a month ago, so before every scale test and final beta, stated on it:

I'm sure beyond launch we're going to expand the size of the map, as we grow. We'll look at increasing ship numbers per world.

For launch though, this is our world size. We're changing some things around, adding new reefs, adjusting placements, but this is the metric we believe in for our ship encounter frequency at launch.

Do you have any official source saying that it would be 4 times bigger?

As I said, Sea of Thieves issues are only about people not reading or searching by themselves.

    Didn't buy it yet.

  • I find it endlessly hilarious that all these people are declaring the game is trash because "no content" when what they really mean is they want a thousand different missions to be led through with minute boring objectives and infuriating cut-scenes. I effing hate missions and haven't played a "campaign" mode in several years.
But here we have all these guys floating dejectedly around the sea wringing their hands waiting to be told what to do and guided through it kindergarten style.

All I have to say is better luck next time and maybe you will research your next purchase more carefully. The door is over there folks!

    Naw, not descriptive enough.

I prefer "The Piratey Pirate Game Full of Pirates-n-Such"!

But I suppose Sea of Thieves will do.

I dunno man. You call it a "bug" but I'm pretty sure this is intentional to keep things fair between PC and console players. Prevents quick scoping, etc.

  • I think it’s very harsh referring to this as no mans sea. Rare never lied about visuals, content or how we’d play.

However I do draw comparisons about the lack of content and variety but once again Rare never showed anything else off we don’t have. We just assumed that this couldn’t be it and expected more. Still entirely disappointed but it’s a beautifully crafted game from what we do have (which isn’t a whole lot)

  • I love those discussion which look like a copy of already abandoned threads. :-)
So generated quests are (surprisingly for some people) somehow repetitive...
The announced horizontal progression is there, but is not appreciated as horizontal progression...
    The map isn't big enough...
The price matches regular games and people don't search the internet for better prices...

    All sounds quite familiar.
If someone would add something about a missing story, this would sum up many threads. ;-)

I will sit down again this evening, grab some snacks and a rum and look at this forum entry again - could be fun to see where this all ends up.

  • @hoodoo And overwatch has 10x the amount of cosmetics as well

  • @ooo-ballzy-ooo If this is a sandbox game, then literally any game is a sandbox. Less is more, everyone! Its so refreshing, thank you for freeing us from all that complicated content.

I shouldn't be so bitter because a really like(love) the game, but I'm tired of people making excuses for it lack of content.

The only way you can get cosmetics in Overwatch is through lootboxes, though. While I personally have no problem with them, because you can earn them for free, I know of quite a few Overwatch players who vehemently oppose them, and would love for the option to directly purchase skins, which is how Sea of Thieves does it.
