This is just painful, I have been spinning the pirates for 1.30 hours now and I'm not even close to finding what I want, this is one of the worst introductions to a game I have experienced, I am not prepared to settle for a decent looking pirate, I want to create my ultimate idea of a pirate, the longer I have to spin this wheel the more resentment I am feeling towards the devs that thought this was a good idea...
IPG Infinite Pain Generator
@vavume Been here the same amount of time lol. Who knew I'd be up at 1:30am trying to get a decent looking pirate.
Its funny because I think they did it to make it faster, so people wouldn't be sliding adjusters all day, but it does seem counter to the game design as a whole. Because the game itself is meant to be creating your own pirate adventure, your own pirate story. So you want your pirate to be perfect, and now people are spending more time trying to create their pirate. Should have just had sliding bars...
It took me 3 hours in the end to finally get a good pirate, having said that it was not perfect to what I wanted, but I was losing the will to live, so accepted my fate. I will not be recommending this game to anyone as I would not inflict the suffering I went through on anyone else, it's embarrassing tbh, that this is how you are greeted by the game...
@insani7y88 idk but its a b****r, i can't find any with back tatts either, sadly my alpha, beta, character doesn't exist anymore. Maybe since they were removed it means that we can pick our own tattoos later? I'm really hoping so at least, can't imagine why you would remove content if you weren't planning something.
@vavume Lol, now join the game and before you are even allowed to draw a weapon you're getting head shotted by an aim bot assisted hacker. Now your path to the dark side is complete.
Spent about 70 minutes. In first 10 I found two good looking pirates but in the next hour I couldn't find a single one I'd like so I had to settle with one of the first two. I was getting dizzy from the spinning so yeah. It's not the pirate I would love but I guess it's better than the other 800 I saw and disliked.
Whoa!!! 1.5 hours picking out a pirate. That is absurd! However, it is on you and your particular requirements,,, not RARE!
You are not alone. But the best thing they added is the ability to delete your pirate if you do select one you don't like. I spent over an hour and because my character was standing in a weird pose they looked better but when I saw him in game I was very unhappy. But thankfully I was able to delete him. So don't use the favourite feature because it just takes away from spins. If you see one you might like just pick him and look at him in game. If its not ok delete the character.

Wait... you can now delete your character? I thought you were stuck with him. So saved characters are not back when you delete a character?
@vavume took me more than 1 hour to choose mine and I only got it because I knew I could change what I didn't like on it (hair, beard)... and was already kinda tired of the selection process :/
At least, with the new Favorite char locking system, there's less regrets of letting go a good candidate.
And the allowing to Delete it afterwards was also a good feature when early on the game with nothing to lose if you don't like how it looks/behaves in-game....but a sex, age, height/body/skin type filters would speed things up considerably.
Maybe on the next update we'll be able to reset (not delete!) it and use a more sophisticated IPG with filters.
@koshdukai what’s de difference between delete and reset? Deleting your character remove all progression (gold, items, etc.)?
@nanach said in IPG Infinite Pain Generator:
they did it this way so half th players wont be jack sparrows, etc. they want everyones pirate to be unique
This argument is silly. The IPG only randomly generates bodies and faces. We can all still look like Captain Jack very easily with the other cosmetics. There's still going to be a lot of lookalikes. And the pirates don't seem all that different in the IPG anyway.

Yup, delete will wipe everything that pirate had (Gold, Items, Company "ranks", etc).
I used the word "reset" to convey a possible future way to re-select the look without losing everything achieved so far.
Haha, "Infinite Pain Generator" love it. Yeah, it sucks. I spent a lot of time on it, then deleted my pirate and lost progress because I still wasn't happy with my character. Then spent some more time on it... still not 100% happy but what the hell choice do I have? I could spend days on that thing until I got the right look I wanted. I feel mostly bad for female players. That thing generates some pretty ugly chicks haha.

You mean you don’t like spending 30 plus minutes cycling through a slow, random pirate generator until you finally give in and settle on a pirate you’re not entirely happy with either...
The IPG is truly awful. Honestly the worst character creator (selector?) in recent memory.
I agree. They want us to be the pirate we want to be, but although some of us are cool with a random character, the rest of us can't really be who we want.
Live in the moment. You won't get another opportunity unless you ditch the one you make for some reason. Instead of merely asking what's the holdup, maybe your focus is simply somewhere else than in the mirror. Trust your gut feeling. Don't look at the time. Take breaks and have some nourishment. Remember that you can further influence their look afterwards. Just not the body mass, type and makeup. So focus on those if you cannot make up your mind.
Personally the wait to get to roll those mates is much more tedious and longer than to actually roll the mates, I reason. I haven't found decent parts with reasonable price tags yet to assemble the build of my PC. I'm getting there though.
The devs figured that they may add a pin-a-mate feature so you don't need to roll mates without guidance. Would indeed help to find the perfect match.
Pick the one that calls you like a spark in the cosmos.

Wait a moment. You said the pinning a pirate takes away a slot from swings. So it instead locks the slot, not pin the model?

yep, which means you get a smaller pool left to randomly generate through the more you lock the more times you'll have to generate new pirates to get a variety.

Final Passage Rite a.k.a. legend retirement plan. Successor keeps all progression except Pirate Legend progression, reputation and titles. Everything else they do inherit. On top of that I'd like a way to influence the body mass of the mate thorough activities. Plus, have each mate with different body types approach puzzles in their own deviant ways resulting in comical situations.

I knew they would go with this idea until someone mentioned they would instead let us pin them. To me locking and pinning would behave a bit differently, liked the sound of it, but little did I know that it actually meant the exact same thing. LOL
Nice idea, but in practise it actually makes it slower to find the perfect pirate the more we lock them. The actual pinning would serve as a mirror to which the eight slots could be compared to.

Indeed, a female friend of mine spent 5 hours last night trying to get a pirate she liked and was unable too, she was actually close to tears half way through, it's now unlikely she will ever attempt to play this game again.

Typical fanboy answer. Less is more everyone! Less is more, so refreshing!
Yeah this bugs me so much, haven't even gotten into the game yet because I'm stuck trying to get a combination of pirate features I like.
Why in the world they thought the random generator nonsense was a good idea is beyond me.
And also... can't name your pirate ... it's always your xbox live name ... ridiculous. .
Almost at 5 hours now... Ive given up for today. I don't know whats worse spending hours on the ipg or just picking a character I hate and then not caring about unlocking anything for the character because I hate the way it looks.
I love the game, but this is the worst character creation Ive ever seen. I just keep coming across the same character models over and over. Im so discouraged by it that I'm not even playing a game on its release day. A game I've been waiting for, for months.
I just hope this is not ignored and it is addressed. Some feedback from Rare would be amazing. You know, this is interesting because I was in the same boat.
I spent multiple hours creating three pirates, two of which I deleted because I didn’t like how they looked in game.
Now I settled for quotes a decent one and I keep on liking him more and more. If it was up to me to create one, he would look different but that’s the point I like about it. The IPG actually generates quite a few interesting ones.
Try looking for specific features or an image you’d like to portray and accept some comic imperfections that come with it.
After all the pain the IPG caused me I actually believe in why it is there in the first place and I did see a lot of cool pirates already.

If the pirate was the best of 800... that seems pretty good. Granted it took a while though. I'm wondering how picky people are being. When I watched the initial IPG footage it rolled about 40 times. I saw at about 6 pirates that looked pretty damn cool and 2 that looked perfect for me. I wonder if too many people are looking for some god-level aesethetics akin to something from a perfect human genetic modifications laboratory or something.... some of th ugly ones are awesome.
@neptuncynic I get what your saying. I don't dislike the idea of the ipg. I dislike the lack of control of it. I think a real character creator would be better. But filters are absolutely needed. I do have a character in my head. I'd like an athletic heroic looking blonde guy. My problem is that because there is no control I get 8 pirates that do not fit that description. Then a few re roles later, I might. But then I dont like the face. So then I re role and rerole. The problem is that out of 8 characters Im really only looking at 1 at best each time. All of the others as cool or weird looking as they may be are not appealing to me at all and are actually just slowing me down.
Filters would make the game generate 8 pirates that are close to what I'm looking for and I would be able to find my pirate so much faster. And actually be playing the game right now.
