Idea: Kracken Tracker - Interactive Map

  • The Kracken seems like such a cool idea and I for one can't wait to run into it and see if it can be beaten. The trick is going to be finding it and getting others there to help.

That got me thinking...I really love @rarethief's Interactive Map and thought a cool addition might be a Kracken Tracker. It would be neat to have a way to log a Kracken sighting in a specific area. That way we might get an idea where/when the Kracken likes to spawn and can maybe see if there is some sort of pattern too it.

I know it can be different for everyone depending on what server they are on but if we could just go to this tracker and see where the latest sightings are at so we can voyage there and hope we're or the same server or get lucky.

Honestly we wont know unless we attempt to track it FOR SCIENCE! lol

I look foward to see you all on the high seas and taking down this majestic beast with you YaaarrrRRR! ;c)

  • Don't think that can work since it will be different for every server running the game.

  • @tavishhill2003

hows that? you got any source on that? weather and day and night cycles are synced between servers as are events, why not the kraken?

  • @coyote4711 Not sure what you say is true, but w.r.t. the Kraken how could they possibly sync them across all servers when the Kraken can be defeated on one and not on another?

  • @tavishhill2003

your point makes sense. so there must be more than one kraken.
the thing with weather and day & night is due to the fact that ships (with crews) can phase between servers if a certain server for instance is underpopulated, seems to work seamless. but your point is valid, i reckon, we will see after release

  • @coyote4711 You too raise a good point about the time of day! It's possible though that they get around taht by waiting til a given time of day to do the merge though, or wait til you are out of the storm to do it.

It'd be cool for npc's at outposts to talk about rumors of a Kraken roaming in a particular place.

  • The kraken will appear randomly, can't work.

I guess there will be some kind of big clue in the sky, like seleton forts, once it appears, so all crews can travel to its location. Perhaps something like storm clouds but with a different colour.

Since you're a bit behind, you'll know the Kraken is about to strike when the water turns a murky black. You'll then have a brief grace period to either hightail it out or prepare to fight.

You'll also be able to see the Kraken's tentacles waving around when it begins it's attack. They're huge, and difficult to miss.

    Read again my post.

Hint: for other crews not in the area.

  • Does he swim around the world or does he random spawn nearly instant? And, if I jump into the water, will I see the rest of the Kraken? Would love to swim with a gunpowderbarrel to feed him ^^ Can he also spawn in a storm? There are so many questions for me about it... ^^

  • Thank you for all of the responses so far! All I'm really asking here is that we collect data on Kraken sightings if possible to determine if there is anything help for or worth while to discern from it. In the end worst case scenario we might figure out the it is too random to be helpful but until we collect the data we wont know. Who knows we could figure out some pattern like it shows up certain places more at night or doesn't like to show up around different islands because they're too shallow. We wont know unless we track it. The data will tell the tale, but with no data there will be no tales. Maybe I like data and science too much for a Pirate lol....let it be my downfall and I'll still be happy. Thanks again all. Hope to see you on the high seas ;c)

  • Just be sure to keep some extra Powder Kegs on deck, I imagine they will prove very handy in a Kraken fight!
