Why does the brig have a minimum time limit?

  • What the topic says. Besides the troll moderating uses of the brig, one of the fun uses of it is just for some hi-jinx among a crew of friends. However, the minimum time limit limits its use for this, as throwing a friend in the brig is more fun than leaving them in there. Thoughts?

  • @baldmunkee How long is that time limit?

  • @ohrstrom 5 minutes I believe.

  • @baldmunkee my thought on this is... 1. the time limit (seems like 5 mins) is not unreasonable . 2. it makes you actually think before you brig someone.. also wonder if they were having problems at all on rares end I'm sure its some weird loading if you brig and unbrig sosmeone constantly faster than it can load their white screen

  • Otherwise people could troll people, constantly putting them in and out of the brig.

  • @baldmunkee When you use the brig it immediately teleports the player from their location to the brig. I believe the time limit is to prevent abuse. So you cant say vote someone into the brig to TP them to the ship from an island and then immediately vote them out. This forces you to use mermaids which have a time/distance delay.

Once during a heated 2 hour ship battle my crew got desperate for cannonballs and planks. We began cannoning our shipmates to nearby islands so they could loadup on gear and mermaid back. Near the very end we though hey lets TP back with the brig it will be faster than the mermaid and the timer set us back and put us a huge disadvantage.

  • I guess that's what I'm saying. You are already kind of trolling someone. If I m playing with my friends, we can handle whether we are "trolling" each other or not. The game trying to enforce how much we want to "punish" someone seems unnecessary. That said @p0pc0rnH3MER01D , I hadn't thought about server strain. Maybe it has something to do with that.

Lol. You played yourselves! :) Sounds fun(ny)

I think it so you cant tele your crew mate back to the ship if they are about to die on a island/ tele your crew back to the boat faster because a ship rolled up on you/ many other ways this can be used as it was not intended.

So people don’t troll with it. We locked my brother’s wife in the brig just to troll her and felt horrible when we realized there was a time limit. Haven’t locked someone in it sense except for the random troll who tried to blow up our own ship.

  • The "no teleporting" thing makes a lot of sense. /thread

This is also true. I wasn’t going to mention it as mermaids already exist. But it’s technically faster to brig them. Additionally if your cre goes to board the ship and an enemy boards your ship you could brig your team mate to teleport him back to your ship and then let him out so he doesn’t have to swim or try to find a mermaid. That we way you could defend more easily while attacking.

  • Yes my jackbutt friends thought it would be funny to brig me while i went to p*e.
I got back and they found out they couldn't get me back out. Then someone attacked them and they was only 2 guys on a galleon. They died. I laughed. They never briged me again. Lol.

  • 1 time we were engaged with a galleon, and my friends decided it would be funny to brig me while i was steering the ships through rocks and while we were being engaged. Fun times I bet everyone knows how that turned out haha

  • Another aspect is that you can use the brig to store treasures in it so that it's hard for enemies to steal them (it's allegedly not impossible to pick them up from outside the brig, but you need to find a spot from where it works). Without the time limit, it would be too quick and easy to take stuff into the brig and out again.
