Accessing crates on pc

  • I'm not sure if this has been mentioned, and I'm not sure how to get this across to the right people, but is there any way to maybe change crate interactions to be the same as barrel interaction on pc?
Has this been mentioned at all?

What I mean is, on pc you get so used to rocking up to the cannon barrel for example, and spamming your use key and your alternative use key in order to grab stuff from, and put stuff back in a barrel.
Whereas when you go up to interact with a crate, the button you expect to use to pick stuff out of the crate actually picks the crate up, like a chest.
And the "putting stuff in it" button is the one you've gotta press to then click on take/stash.

It's pretty unintuitive given the way barrels work, so my suggestion would be that the buttons do what they do with a barrel, but a long hold on one of the buttons should pick the crate up.

This make sense? I hope I explained what I mean right, and hope I'm not the only one that's so befuddled by crates!

    Cheers!

  • I think you can reassign with keybindings. Have you tried that?

  • You can only reassign "use" and "secondary use" (in regard this issue)
Which are taking stuff from barrels, and putting stuff into barrels respectively.
The problem isn't so much the bindings, but rather what each binding does when interacting with a crate.
No matter what button you have for use, it will always pick the actual crate up, whereas I'd have liked it to be the button you press to take things from the crate, in the same way that it works for barrels.

  • @mcdoll do you mean the put banana/canon balls crate? What a wonderful solution you gave!

  • @moe-furbino yup, that's exactly the one!
    Thanks!
It's really frustrating to me that they function differently than the barrels!
I was planning on setting up crates of balls on the deck of our galleon, near each row of cannons, but the fiddling around trying to access them, when you've developed muscle memory for grabbing cannonballs meant that we just ran to the barrel instead!
