Chicken tags are impossible to read

  • I will go ahead and identify as an XBox player as it may be different on PC, but on my setup it was pretty much impossible to read the identifier tags on the chickens, and at night it was nearly impossible to tell which was what.
Could the Tag pop up at a greater distance, before they are running around like...chickens?

  • @johnny-boy-zee Maybe they could add an option to change the texts size but for chicken, you mostly need to focus on the color.
Black, golden, white and red with some white dots.

  • @dje-la-planque
It wasn't really the size of the text as much as the speed it was moving across the screen. Maybe it was my slightly older eyes and setup.
It might have been the length of the tag as well. The directions of how to catch the chicken as well as the description of it made for a long sentence that was on screen for a very short time. "Press LB to catch blah blah" was a lot to read when it flashed up.

  • @johnny-boy-zee Chickens are fast creatures. :p

  • They are fast, and chasing them is a great mechanic in the game.
But i would almost rather that the tags are not there at all compared to the way they pop up now. Just distracting.
Like I said, maybe just have the tag pop up a few feet farther back. You have to be right on top of the darn things for the tag to pop and at that point the chicken is moving too fast for you to read it.

    This!!

If they want to have a pop-up for letting us know we can catch a Red-Spotted Chicken (or whatever), put it over the cage. But honestly, just a "catch (RT)" prompt would be enough (especially once we can let animals out of cages).

  • @dje-la-planque true, and what should one do if they are colour blind?

  • @lewanderous
That's a good point, and not necessarily color blind, maybe just older equipment.
So that puts us back to the tags popping farther back. Gives you a chance to read it and decide which one to chase before they start running in circles.

  • Instead of having tags, which are hard to read because the chickens are fast. How about a you chose poorly sound. Like the price is right loser horn or something. They already have a sound for getting it right, might as well have one for getting the wrong one.

  • @lewanderous Even a color blind person could identify every of this 4 chickens.
One is White (White is always white)
One is Golden (so grey for colorblind)
One is Black (and black is always black right?)
One is red with white dots (if a color blind person can't identify dots, it's most lickly that this person is dumb, not colorblind).

Edit : Sorry for the mistake with translation, I first thought colorblind was a term for not seeing colors, not about having trouble to distinguich them. Apologize to anyone I could have offend with this post.

TBH your pretty dumb to suggest that colour blind means you see in black and white lol

for instance my kid cant identify between green and brown so f it was a green and brown spotted chicken it would look plain.

  • On our first TA voyage my roommate and I spent a good amount of time chasing chickens to no avail. We couldn't figure out how to put them in cages. Finally my crewmate (on an Xbox) recorded some play, rewinded it and took a pic with his phone to read the text. He needed to hit a bumper button. I play on a pc, and figured out I had to left-click. Would've been easier if there was a left-click icon instead of text.

  • I think sea of thieves encourages you to look at color andz tuff because rare said they want you tofeel like your in the game in the game

  • @johnny-boy-zee There are tags? Just look at them... the color should be enough of a clue. If it's night have someone there with a lantern.

  • See how hard they are to read? You didn't even know they are there. :)

  • @lumpaywk Sorry mate if I offend you or your son or everyone, that was not the purpose.

I'm french so I don't know the term in English. By simple reading I thought colorblind was for not seeing colors, not about having trouble distinguich them.

In France we say Daltonisme (Daltonism) or dyschromatopsie (dyschromatopsia).

But I learn a new word in the process. :D

  • What I ended up doing was just capturing the chicken without reading it's tag. Then put down the crate and read the tag of the captured chicken. If it was wrong you can just kill it and get your crate back.

Then I realized there were only three (white, black, red-speckled) so if it was daytime I didn't even need the tags.

  • @johnny-boy-zee That was actually a sarcastic response. I knew they were there but there was no need for them to be there. I did see the symbol for RT to capture them, though, but this would have been my guess anyway since RT does every other action with an equipped item in the game.

Try changing your field of view settings to max and you might see more of the text box.

  • @lumpaywk To his point though, my brother is colorblind, (I forget which type), and he had no problem distinguishing the different chicken colors. White, black, and gold are easy, and the spotted one is the only spotted one. It's not like one was red with green spots and another was green with red spots. And the spots were white on a red chicken, which I don't think there is a type of colorblindness this would affect.

  • @papasohan
I agree that they are easy enough to distinguish from each other, even through physical or equipment challenges.
So can we just drop the tags?
Or have a "Got it" instruction tag when you pick up the cage or pen?

  • @johnny-boy-zee I'm just saying, it didn't bother me one way or another, and it didn't affect the gameplay for me. And once you caged the correct animal the whole team gets a notification that the animal was caught, that's your 'tag'. If you catch the wrong one just shoot it.

  • This is how I caught the wrong bird. Now that I know what they all look like I'm good but the text was fleeting and poorly done. No possible way to read on PC.

  • @johnny-boy-zee It's not different on PC.

If you hunt vermins at night you are in a trial and error run.

I was clicking E like mad and swearing like a real pirate one minute.
