Fix the rifle scope!

  • One of the main problems, for me at least is the rifle scope sensitivity.
It's just bleh it feels wrong, why is it so slow,so the mouse doesn't have an advantage?
It feels better with the controller!

A possible solution for this would be:After you scope there's a 0.5 sec mark of blindness. The faster you rotate the scope the more blurry it gets, the less you move it the more clear it is.

  • I am sure this handling is done this way to avoid an unfair advantage for us, mouse users.

Personally I am fine with it.

  • @lobofh I just offered a viable solution imo,for real you can't aim at anything as of now with that kind of sensitivity

  • I personally have my own small problem with both the Eye of Reach and the spyglass. I think the glass on both is a bit too clean. I'd like to see a kind of orange tint on the edges. A good example of this is the sniper scope in Team Fortress 2. When you're playing as the Sniper and are scoped, there's a sort of orange tint on the edges of the glass. Just a minor nitpick, but I think it would be cool to see.

  • Consol player here, it is way too slow. I get they don't want PC players to have an advantage but it definitely needs to be tweaked a bit.

Key word here being TWEAKED, small adjustments until they find the sweet spot.

While I agree that console players should not be at a disadvantage, I don't think this system really works all that well as all the PC user has to do is bind a mouse button to increase their DPI to effectively bypass it.

If they're going to allow this to happen anyway, they might as well let us adjust the ADS sensitivity in game too.

I disagree, I am doing fine with it, I have a really huge mouse pad though, haha.

You can't try to use flicks with this system, you pre-aim unscoped and zoom in to do slight adjustments. In any case it's pretty obvious they don't want twitchy gameplay and quickscoping. I am totally fine with it.

    Thats where you lost me.

I find it working perfectly...I miss a lot of course and go 90% of the time with the blunderbuss, but when standing on idle ground I can hit pretty easy with it.

Do you really think you can aim faster and better with a controller then with a mouse?

  • How about one that's not cracked?
    I'd pay extra of course.

    Because?

Look, I got an Xbox one S for my wife, she's likes consoles and we play SoT together. She isnt bad with the controller...but I can run around her 3 times, empty my gun twice and jump over board again before she can even hope to get a decent aim on me. And I'm not that good.

One thing, nobody takes into count: How do you sit in front of your screen??

A PC player is sitting face to his screen...he is basically immersed into it. I can see ships at the horizon even if its just 1 pixel.

A console player doesnt (usually) my wife is sitting on our couch about 2+ meters from the TV. The TV is making up a smal part of her vision...she sees the same ships maybe 20 seconds later.

  • @lobofh Hence the 0.5 sec delay and the motion blur.

  • @kustho Yes i have tried both and this is a first for me,it feels not right.

  • @mzargothekhajit I'm on the pc and I have never even noticed a slow down on the rifle scope. I have a good mouse though so who knows.

  • There's really nothing devs could do to affirm balance when it comes to tweaking speed without steppin' on toes, in my current opinion, but maybe they could add more countermeasures and graphical disadvantages that influence tactics taken and provided. Not just for this rifle alone, but to make every firearm and sword have their unique immersive feeling thorough diversity of purposes.

You know, to deliver the offered fantasies properly.

    Edit:

For example, add more activities into the game that utilise only certain items. Add more optional items into the game that affect each voyage differently in a challenging way. Make the body types change how the mates react and solve the challenges of the environment, but in an equal pace and promoting diversity of the crews.

    Because?

Because imo the game should be designed with everyone in mind, regardless of their chosen platform, and shouldn't confer any inherent design advantages to PC or Xbox players.

  • If you’re gonna scope set a DPI switch on your mouse.

aehh..thats evolution? Hand eye coordination is better then thumb-thumb-eye coordination?

But because this is possible to do and everyone will most definitely be doing it, why wouldn't Rare just include an in game ADS sens slider? If they were really concerned with PC player advantage you would think they would implement a maximum DPI system.

You certainly won't catch me arguing that a controller is more precise than a mouse and keyboard because it isn't, all I'm suggesting is that the game's design shouldn't exacerbate the gap between M+K and controllers by deliberately hampering one or the other, in this case, by making M+K sniping nigh impossible on lower sensitivities without a dpi switch.

    Agreed.
Also isn’t keyboard + Mouse support becoming official for XBox?

  • gotcha...understod.

I hope so, that would really be a game changer for Xbox players.

They are not making mouse sniping nigh impossible, by far, they just don't want the twitchy flick shots, we are used in competitive PC games, they want cumbersome handling, like the real thing, for immersion reasons and to minimize the gap with controller users.

I am not using a DPI switch and I am doing fine, usually the professional FPS players use low sensibility because the acuracy is way better, high sensibility seems to be fast but they lack real acuracy in the pixel level.

  • Not all move have on the fly DPI adjustment but it's definitely a decent workaround for now for those willing to spend a couple bucks... PC, the original pay to win :P

You can adjust mouse sensitivity in the options, the problem is you crank it up to make scopes usable and your regular movement is insane. A separate sensitivity slider for scopes would be grand! Also the option to turn off auto lock on when fighting with the sword. That's annoying as c**p for PC players and has nothing to do with controller vs M+K balance. I'd be fine if they leave it in but give me the option toturn that nonsense off!

The key word in my reply was lower sensitivities, if you are content to use the default sensitivity, it could be objectively good (depending on the preferences of the player) but if you turn the sense down to 1.4 as I had, I assure you that it is indeed nigh impossible, requiring an excess of 6 full mouse movements (18 inches from one end of my mouse pad to the other) to achieve 90 degrees of adjustment. As for the argument of twitch shots, because one can simply toggle their DPI to their preference once scoped anyway, twitch shots are already possible whatever Rare's intentions are. All I'm asking for is an in-game way to do what I can already do out of game.

It's true that not every mouse has on the fly DPI adjustment but many do, and your pay to win argument is laughable when one considers a high quality, DPI adjustable mouse is actually cheaper than the standard Xbox controller

Also I couldn't agree more on the auto locking with sword play, with M+K it is really redundant and unnecessary.

  • @clutchachu said in Fix the rifle scope!:

...your pay to win argument is laughable...

Good, glad you laughed, it was intended as a joke and not an actual argument :P

Also, that's the older model Xbox One controller, the current models are currently ~$40 right now if anyone might be looking for another controller:
Xbox Wireless Controller - Black https://www.amazon.com/d*/B01LPZM7VI/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_gwEPAb49G43J2

Not to say you're wrong about mice, just throwing that link up for anyone who might be in the market. You're absolutely right, you can get very nice mice with on the fly adjustment for even cheaper than that steel series. I took a gamble on this one and I honestly prefer it over my old Razer I had before that c*****d out on me:

  • @mzargothekhajit I am sure the developers already know about this, this will probably be addressed after release!

  • @mzargothekhajit Yeah I know it's annoying they should really replace the lens
