Actual player shipwrecks

  • What do you guys think about them making the sunken ships actually remain like the world spawned shipwrecks? it would be kinda cool to come back and be like: hey thats the ship we sunk last time! hey thats our ship that we sunk by crashing into 1 rock!

maybe it's heavy on the server and makes it lag I guess but idk

  • @salazar-armando I had the same thought. Sweet idea but would probably overwhelm the server after awhile

  • not all need become shipwrecks. If a shipwreck or cargo can generate there then yes maybe they could.

  • Just give the shipwrecks a timer and make it so that each crew can only have two active shipwrecks. If a crew is sunk multiple times, the older shipwrecks despawn. Would also need to make scuttled ships not leave a wreck, nor should it go towards the shipwreck counter. That way people can't forcibly despawn their own wrecks.

  • Not necessarily a shipwreck that stays behind, but to be able to loot the remains of their hull. Having the supplies float to the surface would be a great incentive. Barrels of bananas, canonballs, etc that are collectable

  • Doesnt work...due to the seamless transition in between servers.

You dont notice it, but it happens that your ship changes servers seamlessly in SoT. Its a way to handle server population as I understood it.

Even if given a timer, the server ressources to handle that info with a playerbase of how much? How much people play SoT at release? Millions?

No Sir...I dont see it work.

  • @mexicated Supplies are totally a must when it comes to looting a sunken wreck. I don't know how many times my crew and I have stopped at seagulls just to resupply rather than look for a chest.

It would be nice if 60-70% of the supplies on board would rise to the surface in barrels for you to plunder as well as their chests.

  • I like the idea. But maybe have the shipwreck vanish after an hour or something as not to overwhelm the sea with shipwrecks.

Also, when you see floating barrels, isn't that where a ship sunk?

  • @tedakin Floating barrels is just flotsam for you to resupply, not necessarily a sunken wreck. If you see seagulls circling and you don't see barrels, it's usually a wreck.

  • that would suck because other players will waste their time looking for treasure because they wouldn't know there is none.

  • The world would be so messy. One day I was grouped with this guy that was incapable of not hitting every rock or island that he came anywhere near. To make it worse, he always insisted on steering. His excuse was that he was used to piloting a sloop.

    1. Each time a ship is sank, a point is added to a shipwreck counter. This counter would simply keep record of the sunken ship quantity we may encounter.

    2. A sunken ship is spawned to every third crew in the area of the bubble a ship was sank at; those who sink ships won't directly benefit from this nor those whose ships sink.

    3. Any area could only hold one shipwreck at a time. Whenever a ship sinks at an area, the sunken ship quota of that area is met and they cannot receive another until the quota is wiped.

    4. Any ship that sinks in an area that already has its quota met won't add a point to the counter.

    5. A crew has to enter into a bubble at the area a ship was sank at to have it spawn there.

    6. Exiting an area or leaving the sunken ship untouched for a set duration will have the strong current below gradually dismantle the sunken ship from its parts.

    7. Same would happen afterwards a sunken ship gets looted thoroughly.

    8. Another way to hunt sunken ships specifically could be to get a voyage from a clerk who deal with sunken loot. This would help maintain the counter low enough.

    9. Voyage of this kind would guarantee a find, but same limitations would apply here.

    10. Each week, wipe the counter to clear the map and start over.
