Can we please invite friends to the lobby (not crew) (Poll)

I find it funny that everyone is so quick to say, "But, that wouldn't be balanced!" Anything that is added to the game has to go through balancing. Why not let the developers decide what is a good idea for their game instead of criticizing anyone who has a different thought on this forum. Personally, I like the idea. I have 4 brothers that bought the game and we won't be able to all play together the way it currently is. There are plenty of things they could do to keep it balanced, and if they decide to add the idea they will do just that. I mean, I get it, most people on forums are experts in game design implementation. And since we're all so intelligent, I think it's safe to let the developers make up their own minds as to what they will implement. If it's not feasible, they won't do it, right?

So you have the right to argue for a change but the people that dislike that change and don't want to see it implemented don't have a right to argue against it? No that isn't how things work.

Yes the devs will decide if they add this or not but if were simply going to just let the developers decide free from our input than that includes not making the suggestion in the first place

  • All I'm saying is that you don't have to try to convince the poster that their idea is awful. It's fine to have differing opinions, but you don't have to spend time arguing about how you are right and they are wrong. If you don't like the thread posters idea that is fine, but whether or not something is added is up to the devs. The idea is good 'in my opinion.' I literally do not know you, as you are some random person on the internet. I don't care one way or another if you disagree with me so there's no reason to argue with me.

  • @gollyk Nicely said man, people are fighting over how this game should be... It's a very negative experience being told that your option is rubbish and you a wrong for having an idea.

This game could be huge and could offer all players their type of game and still fill each server up.

  • @aye-manda-panda I can just as easily convince randoms I meet to team with me and dominate if I want to and they have mics.
    Good luck with that.

You know that loading screen where you see your pirate generate for the first time. Dressed in your attire you picked. It would be nice if they had that Taveren the in game loading menu. So you could run around and play while waiting for your friends to join.

    Just a small little room.

I thought about this too, they should have a social server that is just a private tavern for you and your friends, and maybe also have a public one to chat, chill, and friend people. It wouldn't be a place in-game, it would be a selection in the start menus like when you choose your ship, something like that.

  • I feel like the idea of debate is lost on a lot of people here. I never once said an idea is awful in fact if you read what was said I said that i respect the idea.

Some people like an idea they state why they like it others dislike it and refute the points and offer counter points thats healthy debate you go back and forth on an issue till the good ideas rise to the top. To say that any idea is above critique is asinine.

  • Guys they literally just announced today on twitch and mixer that alliances are ok in their eyes during the Q & A. Now to just have the option to play with the same players we have always talked to. Sorry I'm not going to tag each one of you because there's quite a few so I will just say it in one post here.

Never said anyone was some horrible person for disagreeing with me. Different things for different people, I get that. But at the same time I ask of everyone that has disagreed with me to do the same thing they ask of me. See the other side. This does not have to be a one or the other type of discussion. I'm literally ok with any option that allows me to play with a larger group of my choice. Compromise involves give and take on both sides and I think that if the devs are trying to make the most people happy, then them finding a common middle ground is the smart thing to do. As another poster has stated. Everything that is brought into the game has to be balanced and the devs can find ways to balance this as well.

  • @gollyk
You say we should let the developers decide. I would say the developers have already decided with the mechanic they put in the game.

  • I wish it was possible, they could even put a 8 man cap on it. Where you could have you and your three friends on a ship and up to 4 on another, or any combination of the 8. Seems super easy , but..... :(

  • @aye-manda-panda You are correct they did just announce as they have many times before that alliances are ok. They have also said in streams before that 4 is the perfect player count for a group.

Again I completely understand the reasoning that you want to play with all your friends. If I had a group of 10 people I played everyday with and had build a multi year multi game relationship with I would want them to join me too.

However, see it from a solo players point of view. If I only have 1 ship, why should I be going against a group of friends who has 2 ships? I should be able to form an alliance in the game to work with someone, but I should not have an advantage built in because I have more friends available.

The thing about current in-game Alliances is that they are unstable. If two teams agree to work together one could betray the other or they could work the rest of the timeout. However, you have to start from scratch the next time you log in. And the results of a different group could be completely different. They may say no, they may b*****e up.

With a known friend group I never have to restart that alliance, it is always baked in. We will always start out together and we will always have someone that we trust to keep our back safe.

Balance or no balance I disagree with parties larger than 4. The dynamic of the game changes. Dynamic is different than Balance the randomness of events, tasks, and teams makes this game fun.

  • lol Then that's not really compromise is it? Not going to debate with people who aren't even willing to find a common middle ground.

  • There's a difference between accepting potential tentative alliances being formed mid-session, and providing tools to enable premade multi-crew teams to stack that instance in their favour. The latter would result in it being extremely common.

  • Well to be fair if one party is asking for 2 ships and another asking for only 1 a middle ground would be something like ok you can have your two ships but each has one sail and 2 cannons disabled that way you get the pre made alliance but have to pay for it

  • Let us have private sessions. My and my buddies would live to fight each other. Pvers can become pirate legends without fear. Without progression of any kind I don’t see why we can’t.

  • I really like what the crouching post did by adding a poll. I'm going to add that to this forum as well :)

  • @ooo-ballzy-ooo I would totally support private lobbies to just have ship battle royales but any ability to earn reputation would need to be disabled in this mode to prevent exploitation

  • @bookoftheblade said in Can we please invite friends to the lobby (not crew) (Poll):

I could be willing to get behind that compromise tbh Then when my crew is smaller we can go play with everyone else, and for bigger crews we can fight each other in our own lobby. That or simply having the option for two weaker ships allied together being the only way. As I said before, I am fine with whatever option they figure out how to balance. I just want to play with more than 3 other people at the same time.

  • @aye-manda-panda I totally see your willingness to compromise and I fully believe your want for this is with nothing but good intentions. I think the major point people are pushing back against the idea isnt so much preventing people like you from playing with your friends but when the really oppressive get ahold of the system and begin to exploit it to make people have a terrible time. People are fearful that if an inch is given a mile will be taken

And I can understand this as well. But should the majority always be punished for the minority of toxic players? Why not push back and find ways of preventing or taking action against people who intentionally ruin the game for others?

  • Please don't do this. It would ruin the spirit of the game.

  • @aye-manda-panda Agreed you scurvy dog

  • I don't think that is a good idea. It gives a significant, possibly game breaking, advantage to clan/guild types. This dynamic consistently ruins many online games. It's your crew and your crew alone, you must have the same trust issues all other crews have or huge parties could easily troll the seas, ruining the game for everyone else. I am completely against any teaming advantage in this game. If you want to group up with other crews that is ok, but you cannot expect to be given control of servers by simply having a large friends list. The matchmaking dynamic is perfect as it is, the only thing I want changed won't be changed either, because I want Rare to somehow disable party chat and force game chat usage. Going dark on chat by entering a party pretty much ruins the game as well, and I'm sick of being invited to party chat.

  • @lord-sphinktus I've been torn on the party thing. on PC I have two separate keybinds one to talk in game the other to talk in voip to my crew. The reason we do this tho is we tend to have a very vulgar dialect toward one another and we don't want to force other people to listen to that.

  • @bookoftheblade I really hope they never consider that. I stream and if I had to be in game chat where everyone could say whatever, that would be very bad for me. If they ever released it I'd have to switch to discord to talk and make sure every other persons racist remarks didn't end up getting my channel banned.

  • I know what everyone means about servers becoming unbalanced, wouldnt be much fun for others if getting chased by 3 ships all the time and 12 players. But could get around letting more friends into server with new ship classes, something bigger than the galleon like a battleship that can have 6 crew and something inbetween galleon and sloop size like a frigate for crews of 3 with two guns on each side and has mix of speed and turn rate.

  • @lord-sphinktus good idea. From now on I'm game chat. Cause u right it's how it should be played

  • I could see that messing with the balance of a Lobby because people would just create huge groups and dominate a server. So to fix that, they need to make a different match making system where if you have 4 or less people, you are put into a normal server like they are now with similar group sizes. If you have 5-8 people in a group, you are put into a different server that, again contains similar sized groups, and boom. Problem solved, 8 people is plenty and that’s give them the opportunity to add a new ship like a man o war

  • @bvrandoftw

just allow 1 crewmember extra or add another boat

    sloop = 2/3
    galleon = 4/5
    man o war = 6/7

    something like that.

we have daily issues on who's going to play with who, some just stop playing because we're with 6 frequent players. if we can't meet up at the same time, mostly we have a crew of 4 and another 2 poor souls with sloop on other servers.. they mostly quit the game untill they are able to meet up at the same time so we can have a crew of 4 and again 2 other poor souls, some of them work late, or have a kid then, it happens we all wait, lose playtime, some leave earlier. i do understand there are plenty of arguments on the issues we're having, and sort of solutions, but it just is an annoying fact to plan this, or go about the same issues, every day. I actually decided multiple times, i won't play because i feel bad for the other players, that have variable "free time".. and i'm starting to lose hope in having a solid crew. already it feels like the game is falling apart for us.

  • I don't see why everyone keeps using the argument that having PVE servers or a private session with friends would be a bad thing and ruin the game, all you get are cosmetic items anyways. You could then make the argument that the founder, pre order, and special edition controller items are unfair because you didn't earn them and nobody else can get them anymore. If you want to go the route of saying the PVP makes it better then why bother sailing in the first place just hide near the venders and kill anyone who comes near and turn in their items. At that point you don't even need to sail to make a profit. The PVE aspect of the game is all there really is as far as content anyways and all you get from PVP is the tension that your hard earned treasure will be stolen and you'll have wasted 45 minutes for nothing.

  • I think the game ought to auto prioritize you being thrown into servers/lobbies with friends if you aren’t in the same crew.

This for one can make co-op play more likely but even better it will make PvP have the more ‘fun community’ interaction that I believe Rare was going’s for with PvP.
As of right now getting attacked by strangers feels really s****y. I’d at least feel more like I am engaging in a friendly rivalry if I am more consistently combating people I actually know.

Hope to god this never happens

  • @sillycolt302271 Why not?

  • The problem with that is that with only 6 ships on a server we can't have several of them teaming up. As cool as that would be it's just not fair the way SoT it's currently set up.

I'm sure it would be fun to get 5 of your friends on the same server as you and each solo a sloop with no one else to worry about.

It's just not going to happen

  • I voted no and can only repeat was has been stated already:
A nice idea surely based on good intentions, but the risk of players abusing this is way too high and these things happened in other games already (GTA is a prime example).

  • Yes you can team up with randos but there is always risk of potential backstabbing. Playing with friends reduces that, potentially just turning the game into a pve environment & easy, fear free way of looting.
Personally, I believe the game is about the possibility of conflict vs the possibility of finding friendly players and the stories gained each way.
