(For best experience, please read in a very minor Scottish accent)
As a start, let me say I'm absolutely in love with the game. I absolutely adore the art style, and the idea of a genuine Pirate Game, I'm definitely going to Pre-Order, as I'm having quite a time in the beta. But I know its a beta right now, and as such they will 100% improve on things we bring up, as well as trickle out additional content. But on that note, I have a few quarrels.
*Random Leavers
I absolutely hate being matched with super nice people, willing to learn and teach and work as a team. Then when we get to an island they seem to simply vanish into thin air. I'd like some sort of notification when a crewmate disconnects from a crew. It's heartwrenching scouring the island trying to find your friend when he simply isn't there.
*Matchmaking(Or however you'd like to describe it)
As somebody brand new to this PC XBOX setup, I was pretty out of the loop when it came to finding people. I spent my first couple hours in Sea of Thieves solo, simply going around shipwrecks looking for loot (Since at the time nobody could receive voyages without freezing) And thats fine and dandy, but should I want a Galleon with 3 other people, theres no way to get that unless I know people prior. I'm aware that the Win-10 app allows you to find groups, but every time I told a group I was interested, nothing would go further from there.
*Starting Sails
I get it's a pirate game and all, so people aren't so altruistic enough not to have ventures dedicated to sinking boats, and I respect that. But when I'm JUST leaving an outpost with nothing aboard, and no friends to speak of, I'd like to at least make it to a tangible piece of land before I'm set upon by the king and his 5 galleons. Maybe some sort of a symbol on the sails, or a special flag of some kind, it's a VERY MINOR GRIPE, but something I thought I'd bring up nonetheless.
*Random Drop-Ins
I have mixed feelings on this one, as I always smile when I see some random fellow with a green name rise from the belly of my ship. I'm always sure to give them a friendly hello and a wave, but this is where formalities end. 50% of the time I get a rather silent fellow that doesn't talk, but at least follows orders. He may not turn the sails, and he may not drop the anchor, but at the very least he's company, and always on the cannons should there be a threat. The other 50% of the time, I get very wily people that don't contribute whatsoever. They'll pilot the ship into rocks, or join mid-voyage and start dropping my loot overboard! It's aggravating! Working so hard as a solo sailor in a meager Skiff, being chased by large Galleons with 4 People and 8 Cannons. And at the end of the day all I wanna do is head to an outpost and unload my haul, but I can't do that when some b**o starts grabbing my stuff, throwing it over, and then playing tunes in my face.
I'd like some sort of reporting system, or a kick option for people that sail mostly alone, but are open to drop-ins. I know that'll come with it's own host of issues, but I absolutely hate doing all that work and getting nothing for it!
I had a blast with the Beta, even though I had nobody to play with, I still got a fair bit done. I managed to customize my pirate with just about everything save for a Pegleg and Eyepatch. And I look forward to getting my filthy mits on the game at release so I can grind for some boat decor!
But somethings gotta be done about these sort of people, the ones that just ruin your day and make you bitter. I love the game, but I hate the people, I really do.
