GPU only using 25-50% and giving bad FPS??

  • Hi. I have a more then capable system. I7 7700k, gtx1080ti, 16gb ram, running off SSD so there shouldnt be an issue but im getting like 40fps most of the time because my gpu utilization is so low always under 50%...

All other games and benchmarks/stress tests are working fine so its not my hardware

Ive tried changing all in game settings and nothing fixed it....

    Im lost...anyone else have this?

  • Check your CPU as well. This game sometimes chews my CPU.

  • @jaz1140 What settings are you playing on. Is A frame rate Lock on in game is the frame rate unlocked? Is Vsync enabled? You have the same Hardware as me besides I have 32gb of ram the game runs buttery smooth on my part. What windows version are you on? Not saying I can help but a lot info is needed on this subject to help out.

  • @lizardheart
Cpu is fine. Only 30% usage

  • @pigeonman-beam
Playing on mythical but all other graphics settings have no affect. Vsync off in game and nvidia control. I have 144hz monitor. No frame cap. Ill have to check my windows but its the most up to date, only updated on wednesday

Yeh i have seen youtube gameplay with similar setups and they are fine. My hardware is fine. Just this game. Maybe i will try roll back a gpu driver? What do you think?

  • @jaz1140 Thanks for the info and the monitor specs. I can see that you aren't unfamiliar with PC's if you are thinking of rolling back on a driver update. A big question to first find out before anything is make sure you test a different game and see if has the same effect. I'm assuming the other game will work fine? The next step is make sure you try "BOTH" A windows store game and a different platform like steam or battle.net. I feel like this will rule out a lot before you mess with much.

  • @pigeonman-beam IF you have tried a second "Windows 10 store game" And it runs fine we can narrow it down with something with Sea of Thieves over the Windows store and how the apps run. "OFF TOPIC" "A big issue I run into with Windows 10 store games is when my GPU if it ever hits 100% the game Crashes and my game will just play sounds" I ruled out that its a Windows Store Issue and I couldn't find a fix however I was able to limit my settings on all the games I play their to counter the problem.:4

  • @pigeonman-beam Which is why we can't rule out windows store as being a culprit anything could do this are goal is to try and figure out what may be causing it. "One thing to keep note you said all STRESS TESTS ran fine I'm assuming you meant SoT Scale tests. ran fine" Which if recently update any drivers or windows updates. It could be those or even just the game itself

  • That is odd ... I'm running a 7700k with a GTX 1070 and 16GB of RAM with the game installed on a 3TD HDD. I'm getting a solid 115 to 120 FPS with the settings at Mythical (V-Sync and Frame Lock Off). Running the latest NVidia Drivers - 391.01 and ShadowPlay running.

  • @flux101cdn Yeah I think we ruled out it being a Hardware issue. More as maybe update, or "His computer with something" IT could be a number of things, the main goal is for him to find out what could be causing it. Thanks for posting your driver update though the more info might help in the long run!

  • @pigeonman-beam
All other games work fine. Steam games, ive been playing the new age of empires from windows store and its fine.

It really just seems to be this game...id do a fresh install but im fearing it will want me to download the 20gb again.

Im definately not new to PC's. Drivers can often be a problem and rolling back can fix them

  • Sorry Pigeon ... being new to the forums it wouldn't allow me to reply (something about not having permission). When I went to post my comment the last post was Jaz's "Cpu is fine. Only 30% usage." I didn't see the rest of the comments as I had opened a second tab and flipped through the forum rules at the top and then switched back and hit reply. It worked that time.

  • @jaz1140 Yeah best bet is use the new Age of Empires as a good controlled source. However I'm assuming a game of the level doesn't push your GPU much in general, does it have a unlocked framerate feature to push your gpu to 100% quickly. Also you are right it could be as easily as a Driver issues. Which should be something you at least give a go. I'm kind of Anti Updating Drivers "Unless is really needed or helps performance a lot" They can break so much with so little work.

  • @flux101cdn All good. Yeah you need up votes which seeing how you are trying to be helpful I drop you some votes!

  • @jaz1140 I have similar PC, only Ryzen 7 17oo, Amd radeon 580 , no issues after i update the graphics, I was running constant at 75 fps with only 90 lat. Check your drivers just incase.

  • @Jaz1140 Something to keep in mind check your Windows Update Version. By clicking start, typing in run, in the run bar type "winver" No "

  • @Jaz1140 - are you running a dual monitor setup? You could always open the task manager on the second mointor and see if something looks odd (excessive CPU / RAM usage).

Out of curiousity, how much RAM is being used while the game is running?

  • Did you ever come up with a solution for this? I am experiencing similar issues.
