Skeleton Fort raids reward campers

  • @rhblank The chest is just one single item in the room. We just recently did the Skeleton Fort. The stronghold chest gave us 1,800 and the rest of the trinkets and chests gave use around 1,500 gold. If you want to work together with other teams offer them the Stronghold chest and take all the remaining items. I'm sure they will agree with that trade as the chest looks really cool.

  • I'm seeing a lot of these types of posts, complaining about a non-issue and then suggesting that everyone feels the same and the game will lose it's playerbase because of it.

  • @rhblank I know it can be frustrating if it happens, but it's part of the game, one's duty is to watch if a boat is approaching and defend the booty.

  • @rhblank and yeah as @QuietRobot said, this is part of the game and pretty easy to avoid.

  • @getschmiton When this happens to you, I doubt you’ll think of it as a “non-issue.”

  • @quietrobot This isn’t really a luxury two people can afford while fighting off a wave of skeletons. Campers will always have the adavantage in this situation.

Three ships came by while we were doing the raid. When I requested assistance, they would laugh and fire on our ship. You have far too much faith in this playerbase’s agreeability.

  • I did the fort last night, there were four ship, I was playing solo and didn’t get the chest I got a lot of other gold from very valuable ornaments.
Camping would be an issue but that’s the point of the exploding cloud, it advertises pvp loot heavy opertunities.
I advise attempting a few more.
Every encounter should be different, that’s what the dev is aiming for.

  • @RHBlank

    Well, how about his one:

My mate and I finished a fort fighting off a galleon in the early stages, got all the loot, were super excited... A few hours later, on another server, we decided to go for another one, we did it again, a little faster this time, apart from the approach which failed twice I think (not an easy fort to land on).

We finished with barely enough bananas it was fairly epic for us, we opened the vault... TADA

    Empty....

Is this normal? Is there a 1 fort limit per 24hours or something ?

Anyway, that was sligthly underwhelming to say the least =p

  • @rhblank Not everyone shares the same sentiments as you, or rather, they are more resilient or adapt to these so called issues. Separate your emotional response from more logical response and think of ways beyond these advantages that other may have. This is not to say that there isn't things that can't be improved, but claiming doom and gloom because of a single experience that happened to you is not productive.

  • I was disappointed (but not surprised) to find out that every fort encounter in the public build was just constant PvP. What's even more irritating is regardless of how many times you sink an enemy ship, they'll always just sail right back up to you a few minutes later and repeat the cycle.

I'd also argue that the quantity of loot should be increased.

    1. Rare mentioned this sort of could happen, and that they were fine with it. You have to be better than your enemy at killing or negotiating, or you will be killed.
    2. There is a limited amount of loot, so you have to negotiate or "negotiate" who gets what. This is an intentional attribute of the forts.
    3. I highly doubt that the other crew was camping. The cloud doesn't dissipate until the boss is defeated, so they were probably heading your way anyway. This was predicted by Rare and an intentional choice.

This is a non-issue, and Rare's fine with piracy happening in the game about pirates. This game isn't all about being mean, so of course I've had multiple friendly encounters at forts, and have even split the loot without a fight. Though I do believe the amount of loot should be increased, as it would increase tensions between allied crews and be more rewarding for the time put into them. There would be much, much more at stake.

  • @despairsauce It’s not “doom and gloom.” The game isn’t sloop-friendly, and that’s kind of a major issue.

  • What rewards? I’ve done three now all empty

  • @rhblank said in Skeleton Fort raids reward campers:

My crewmate and I, aboard a two-man sloop, managed to beat the skeleton fort raid, but upon exiting the vault with the raid chest, we were killed by two players who’d been just outside the island (unknown to us, of course, because we were fighting waves of skeletons).

It took us a little over an hour to complete the raid – while taking intermittent breaks to fend off other crews who were trying sink us – and it turned out to be a massive waste of time because the raid system is terribly broken in two major ways:

    1. It rewards crews who camp outside/on the island. We spent over an hour killing hordes of skeletons and dying dozens of times, and we’re ultimately punished for it. How is that fun? Why would anyone want to come back to a game that rewards campers?

    2. There’s only one raid chest. Why the hell would you ally yourself with another team if you’re both going to end up fighting over one chest? The system is inherently unstable.

I’m perfectly fine with the open-seas pirating where simple quest-related chests are on the line, but the raids should be an exception to that kind of gameplay. You’re going to lose a lot of players by wasting their time over and over again.

Since the game mechanic allows people to do it you just have to accept it, the same as you do spawn camping griefers.

  • ran 2 forts this evening, one with a galleon while killing and sinking an enemy galleon twice that was only after our ship, we split up the crew. 2 on island killing waves while my and another stayed on ship, and we stayed parked while fighting, anchor up of course hugging the island in a blind spot of the fort cannons so we could swivel the ship. Reward of 3 artifacts in treasure room totaling about 700 coin on completion. 2nd time was just me and my brother on a 2 man sloop, no enemy crews. total rewards at the end, 2 jars or pots of some type, but were bronze, totaling in about 300 coins for an hour of work. Fort are fun, but the time and effort isn't worth it for treasure. I can run gold chicken/pig voyages for 1500+ a pop every 15-30 minutes for much greater coin.

dealing with other pirates is what this game is about, comes with the territory.

  • @rhblank "YOUR COMMENT" "There’s only one raid chest. Why the hell would you ally yourself with another team if you’re both going to end up fighting over one chest? The system is inherently unstable."

My reply to you was that their is only one chest, so teaming wont work that is false all the items in the room along with the chest equal just as much. "Don't twist peoples words to say that people will want to team just for the fact."

I personally do the same If players comes I kill them, I find it quiet funny people run up to me saying we need to work together. When I can Solo it pretty easy, however if a smaller squad "Most likely one person so we don't get stabbed in the back" asked to have item if he helped and I was in crew of four I would have no problem giving him a trinket or two. It's less about trusting the player base and more about trusting in your crew mates if this person decides he wants the chest and backstabs us can we take him out, or will we fail and give him the chest. I'm pretty confident I can take a solo pretty easy so he doesn't scare me if he was to stab me in the back. He wouldn't get far.

  • I'll tell OP right now, I would have done the same thing. Why fight all those skeletons when I could just sneak or fight those chests from a crew of 2 or 4? Those pirates chose wisely, they let you do all the lifting and then relieved you of that burden.

  • @copenhoggin You sir are a pirate. I like your style, but that's the whole point of the game everyone can pick or choose their play style. It's all about having fun and living "Your so called pirate life"

  • @rhblank Here's a tip if you're unable to keep an eye out for vessels or players. When you kill the boss, Hide the key, come back in 10-15 mins, it'll still be there and you wont need to worry about scavengers.
Oh and yeah, working as intended, not a problem, is actually part of the design to have players fight over that.

  • @rhblank Honestly the loot isn't even worth it. Like someone said you get a little over 3k. For how long it took you to do it, that same time could of netted you something higher. Really forts are there I think atm at least just for fun or a break from the other things and you get paid slightly less for it.
