Corrupt Installation Error

  • I get the following error every time I start the game.
    Error
    Unable to read game data.
This may be caused by a corrupt installation.

This happened last week as well, and I couldn't play. I uninstalled and reinstalled both the insider hub and the game.

  • @wahabibi I do not remember seeing that error before, I can only suggest that you contact the Support about it.

Raise a ticket (it may take a while to fully load)

I hope you get it fixed soon :)

  • I found another post with suggestions like reinstall, switch to a local account, switch back to MS account, installed and deleted several Store Apps, nothing seems to work. I'll try to uninstall/reinstall one more time, but this eating up my data.

  • @wahabibi Try this:

Step 1: Run PowerShell as an Administrator

1.Click the Start Menu button and type PowerShell

2.Right-click Windows PowerShell Desktop App and select Run as Administrator in the provided sub menu
    Powershell

Step 2: Removing the Troublesome Application

1.Enter the following in the PowerShell Console: Get-AppxPackage

Note: This will provide a full listing of all the Universal apps installed on this machine. Alternatively, should you know of partially know the name of the application in question, the following could be used: Get-AppxPackage - insert name here

2.Copy the value of the PackageFullName variable. In this example it is Facebook.FacebookBeta_8xx8rvfyw5nnt
    Facebook example

3.Enter the following to remove the Universal Facebook app: remove-appxpackage Facebook.FacebookBeta_8xx8rvfyw5nnt - Confirm

Note: -Confirm is added to the end of the command to provide a confirmation from the individual running the command to ensure the task is to be completed

The Universal app is now removed.

    Try to reinstall.

  • @lt-jd-fenix Thanks, but what app are you suggesting I remove? Should I use this method to remove SOT?

yes, the facebook app is just a example.

I don´t know the exactly name of the SoT app.

  • @wahabibi It is possible that the name is this:
    Microsoft.Wasserburg_1.74.7456.2_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe

This is the name of the game folder.

  • You can try to run the System File Checker

To use SFC, open an elevated command prompt by typing CMD into the Windows 10 search bar, right-clicking on Command, and choosing Run as administrator.

Once you’ve launched a command prompt, type in the following text and hit enter:
    sfc /scannow
it takes around 10 minutes to finish, and this can repair most issues.

  • @el-espectro-0 HAHAHAHAHA

I wish I would have seen this first. :) I kept searching and couldn't find Sea of Thieves. I finally concluded Wasserburg had to be it, and a quick Google...uh, I mean...Bing...search showed that to be the case. Thanks.

I followed Lt.'s instructions and I'm not installing a third time. I also cleared some space on my main SSD to try installing there instead of my spare game HDD.

  • Aye, we are ready to set sail. Thanks for the assistance everyone.

  • I'm having the same problems you are - how did you fix them?

  • I did everything in this thread but I am still getting the Install error. Help would be lovely right about now.
