Merchant guild problem : shouldn't be able to sell at another outpost

  • Merchant guild is know available in the Final Beta but here is the problem.

    You have to start a mission to get some trap cases. But it's the only trap cases you will get.

    Me and my friend got to the wrong outpost to sell our chickens but the lady took it anyway. Then, we can't ask for another trap case.

    The other merchants should not take any merchandise if you are in a mission that ask to deliver at an other outpost.

    Then the only way to continue is to cancel the job. Quite stupid right?

    Just fix that and all of this game will be extra.

  • Uhm. You can't be mad at her for buying your goods. It's pretty much your fault that you sold it on a wrong island. Like I understand it sucks but you had to know you are on a wrong one.

  • I think you can find random cages on islands.

    You want to be able to sell at other outposts in case you get random animals/supplies when you are not on a Merchant voyage (especially stealing them from another player).

    The best solution, obviously, is not to sell things at the wrong outpost!!

    Maybe got yer eyepatch on the wrong eye matey? Or a bit click happy with the hook?

  • @musicmee Mmmh! Didn't read the all message since it's in English and I'm French. It's when I saw nothing appear that I understood the mistaken destination.

    That's why I suggest the Merchant to not accept merchandise not needed or just to compensate by giving some little coin and propose an other box.

    Once localization is finished I am sure it will make more sense... apologies about that.

    You can currently sell any animals anywhere to earn a little more XP and gold seperate to your quests. Like the emergent treasure chests on islands and shipwrecks... the gold hoarder will just take them.

  • @dje-la-planque I half way agree with you. There is a problem with the cage system in my opinion.

    There are a number of ways to "lose" a cage:

    1. Stolen
    2. Turn it into the wrong merchant
    3. Actually lose it
    4. Server switches while one of the cages is on the island
    5. Turn the wrong caged animal into the correct merchant

    I don't even know if it's possible, but I think the best solution would be that you can purchase more cages from merchants for a price.

  • Would be nice to have the ability to get\buy a few extra cages for when mistakes are made which is likely in a PUG

  • @dje-la-planque I tried one merchant quest. Sailed all the way out to an island before I realized I needed to get a cage from the merchant! Sailed back. I needed to catch two chickens. So, I ran to the merchant, grabbed a cage, dropped it on my boat, ran back grabbed another, dropped that on my boat. So, seems to me, you need to activate the quest, then determine what you need, run back to the merchant and grab the supplies, then roll. If in a crew maybe you can have someone wait by the merchant?

  • Why cages couldn't be an item you could take out anytime anywhere from the radial menu, like music instruments, spy glass, etc. ?
    You could take it out but you couldn't drop it on the ground, not until it's not empty anymore (to avoid people from making spawn a lot of them for nothing).

    What's the gameplay benefit to be obligated to take it from the merchant really ? It brings nothing to the table imo and make the whole thing more tedious than necessary.

    In fact, I just realize that we were also wrong about what type of chickens we needed.

    I saw 2x blablabla chickens.
    I should have read : 2x red with white dots chickens.

    We took a black chicken and a golden chicken.

    This merchant stuff will be hard to master for anyone going straight on the line. Remind me old WoW time when I had to kill 20 Ghouls of the specific name at a specific place.

  • @aenima123 My thoughts exactly! Running back and forth to the merchant to get cages for my quest, after the quest is activated and the time is ticking...Not fun at all. Chasing chickens, that is fun! I agree make it a radial menu thing, or an expendable that can be stocked.

  • @dje-la-planque I can confirm you can definitely find crates on the beaches of islands, they have a sort of sparkle to them, so easy to find.

    I noticed that handing in animals that aren't connected to your quest don't seem to have gold rewards, perhaps this is something which might change. It does favour pve gameplay rather than pvp as stolen goods have no reward with the Merchant Traders? Again, I'm not sure if this is intentional.

  • @dje-la-planque i dont say this cause i am trying to be mean. If you are unable to read it because its in a language you dont know. I fail to see how its the games fault for buying them. I do hope that it does come out in a lot of different languages so others can fully play the game. But to me at this time that isnt a thing that should be fixed.

    It's just that speaking to my friend with the excitement of the final beta, no, I'm not reading every single text from NPCs. ;)

    In fact, I surely did the mistake not because of the English text but because of the Gold Holder giving the habit of pressing F to sell.

    By reflex, everyone can do this simple error.

    Sorry from reading that i thought you didnt understand what you were clikcing. Since its in english and your french. Also yes i saw you writing in english but thought maybe you were using google translate program or something. Since your wording made it sound to me you didnt understand it. Sorry of that wasnt the case also thank you for learning a second language since i sure as dont know more than one.

    About the Merchant text. By habit, I guess I thought it was the same that for the GoldHolder and didn't read it. I suppose (not even sure since I click it without reading) that if it were translate, I would have read it without even thinking and could stop pressing F.

    Sorry for your misunderstanding,
    You should read things carefully.. it's a pirate game there plenty on hint you'll be missing if you're playing careless..

    Every NPC talks to you and gives you good information about how things work.

    On your quest you have all you need to know about how to complete it and where and till when to deliver it.

    If things go wrong you can always try to find cages around the world.. you have plenty of time for that.

    Today I just started to play.. and went to a fort.. almost at the end of it I got a notification saying I let the time os my merchant quest pass out..
    I completely forgot about that.. but see how much time you have to complete it?! Almost a duration of a fort raid. (Alone)..

  • Another thing yes you should be able to sell merchandise all over the Outposts.. BC you can always Rob others, find gunpowder and cages all over the world.
    And the game wants you to freely make your own actions regardless of quests

    Or the merchant has their own cage to put that animal into so you get to keep yours.
