Add Crew members ingame

  • when i played sea of thieves we always wanted to play as a five man crew and when i think about the future i´d like to have even bigger crews even if it gets chaotic it would be so much fun with a ten man crew while half of the crew is drunk all the time and someones playing music just thinking about it makes me shiver ^^

well i suggest a badge the any crewmember can give to anyone in the world and promote them to be another crewmember

  • There are discussions about fleets, but that is some time off. I like the idea though.

  • What balances the galleon is that there are only 4 people to run it.

If they are going to make larger crews, they'll make a larger ship that needs the extra people.

However as of right now, Rare is pretty firm about the max crew size being 4.

When players learn to sail a galleon without hitting islands maybe they'll consider it in one of their DLC updates.

  • I agree, just a working cross play 'add friend' system, inviting and adding seems a bit wonky.

  • it would be good, the only thing preventing me to buy this game is the party size... me and my friends are 5, i do not want to play a game that will put one of us behind.

  • @riderlessbird59 so they all bought it and your sitting out? Could always split your party up 3 and 2 or 4 some nights. You all wont be able to play with each other but you can still play with friends.

  • I like the idea. But when you think about other people. Lets say there is one boat with 10 people it will destroy a 2 people boat easily.

The game won't be playable anymore for people that when you have a 2vs10 fight. And i think even for 4vs10 it too much of a difference.

  • @osisgreen I’ve also pondered at the idea of more than four crew! I do hope there are bigger ships and bigger crews! It would be carnage! 😂

  • @death-by-pinga but we can meet in game? i read that you cant chose a server and the servers are always changing...

  • @riderlessbird59 No, max of 4. You can by chance get lucky and be in the same one. As other post are out there on the same topic i'll repeat what i've said there. It would be unbalanced to be able to do so at this time. If you can have 2 ships sailing around thats twice the cannons a single crew has. Even worse for a solo player. I get you have 5 friends, others have 10 others wish to play with there clan of 100. They had to draw a line for balance and 4 is where it's at, at this time anyways. They very well could change it down the road. At that point they will have to re-balance solo ships and group ships.

    3 against 2......

  • Crew sizes wont change for the current ships. Thats not to say bigger ships wont be added in the future to enable this but currently theyre balanced around 1-4 and its staying that way for balance. Anymore than 4 on a galleon changes any fight to one of attrition, its too easy when theres 5, let alone 6 or 7 etc.

There will be no pleasing everyone, many people have groups or 5+ they want to play with but atm, until theres either a bigger ships or a fleet system its unfortunate. Games in the past limit team sizes, its not a new mechanic, Destiny made team sizes of 3 - great for some, horrid for others. It is what it is.

  • No for OP's idea. Adding more and more people DO change the balance of powers. The difference between an a random idea and a good idea is on the fact you actually measure the consequences. Try again without breaking the game and maybe you'll have a cookie.

    But !...

It sounds fair that we can be able to start without matchmaking, and add crew members ingame. So if you choose "4 players crew" and you're alone, you can choose matchmaking or go alone (but it's dangerous, take this). This way you keep 3 empty places on your ship for them to arrive, and if you can't do anything because you're alone, well, it's up to assume your choice. It's no different than being a real pirate waiting for his crew at the tavern, cuz you can't sail such a ship alone.

It seems possible. I don't think that the problem is related to the session filling as Rare seems to count the players in a same map by ship and not by people. It's a way to ensure the balance is respected, and that you will never meet a map of 100 one-man sloop or a map of 10 4-man galleons, since they have targeted an encounter every 15-30 minutes.
