I think maybe you underestimate the expenses Rare's covered, from dev kits, tools, staff et.al...
Au's dollars suck, but be thankful you're not paying 98,000 rupees...
I run a manufacturing business, and in the last 18 years, my expenses have almost tripled, while AAA videogame prices have remained static. Modern economics suck...@digital-pho3nix I feel ya. I'm sorry the price is hiked over there it does bother me. How are kids gonna play this game! They can't afford it! lol
I thought the price was a bit high at first, but after trying out the Scale Test, I think it's well worth it, as long as you've got a good group of friends coming along with you. Ultimately, the price is gonna be whatever people are willing to pay. I imagine it'll come down by $20 USD or so within a couple/few months of launch. So if it's too rich for your blood, I'd say just... wait :P
@digital-pho3nix I agree that the game is overpriced, IF, they don't have a lot more content at release. Something needs to make the experience varied and exciting. 3 factions and grind for cosmetics is kinda weak.
Also, microtrasactions never enhance a game experience, cosmetic or otherwise. Micros are currently the blight on the face of gaming.

See Witcher 3 (AU$79), Forza 7 (AU$89), I could go on). $100 is way too much, and whilst I agree the game is excellent the price is extremely prohibitiveYou seem to be comparing to other AAA games without consideration for the currency exchange differences between when the games you mentioned and this game were released.
When The Witcher 3 was priced it AUD was almost .15 stronger than it is currently. You are also, unfortunately for you, subjected to your countries VAT & tariffs for the game. The game is priced the same as a standard AAA game ($59.99 USD) currently in the US and similar in the UK (£41.99).
I remember when I was young and Zelda Majorca’s mask was $60 for N64.. most games have a luxury or gold addition for another $20 today not including the later updates. If you’re going to complain about price for real point that finger somewhere else. Besides there’s a %20 off amazon pre order for SoT. Or just get a used copy later no biggie
Just saw this on twitter and couldn't agree more with the video statement.
Maybe at the same time the OP has a argument. Not everyone is willing to throw money at something for excitement. There are a few amount of people out there that Rare needs to target and show the value. I do not want to see my full price videogame get discounted 3 months later and rare needs to show the value to these people who are more frugal with there money. As a business perspective.

Game is expensive, yes, but unlike other games "Pay to Win", "Lootboxes" and "DLC Purchase" are not applicable.
And i really think that from everyone who's buying the game, less then 40% is going to buy cosmetics...And they need to keep the Servers Up, and Developing Game Content.
There's a big team that needs to be payed behind this game... Monthly...Flat Sea and Good Winds on March 20th!

Microsoft has not raised the price of there video games since the Xbox 360 launch. That was a $10 hike years ago. Now production cost for games has been worse than hollywood with games like destiny costing half a billion to make.
Games are more affordable now then they were 20 years ago with inflation.
Then again 1 tank of gas costs me $80 to fill my Hyundai Santa Fe in Canada. I can afford the $69.99 title and not order pop at the restaurant for $3.99 17 1/2 times. Laughs. There is worse ways to spend your hard earn cash.
Because they can't justify it. DRM has made huge profits for publishers, as the need to produce a hard copy of the game is required by less and less. They make more money now with their $60 price tag per game than they did 10+ years ago when it was still $60.

As much I love the game and played the c**p of out of it in final beta for whole weekend straight, I must unfortunately agree with you completely. 49.99£ is way overpriced for what the game has to offer. Although I think there overall game will be extended to different mods and more options. Seeing what it has to offer right now I am very sorry that such potential is lost with the overpricing the Microsoft dictates. I have to agree though, this price tag is outrageous, especially in Australia on PC. 100AUD while it's 60USD? That's more than a $20 difference after currency conversion. Why's there such a difference in price for software?
Not to mention the content in this game is so shallow and repetitive. And the "customisable ships" are just a new 'paint job' with no strategic advantage. So literally the only drive to play is to get some pretty upgrades and not to give you a real reward for playing more or being better? That's a poor design decision in my opinion.
I wouldn't pay more than your usual Indie EA release of 30 USD for this overhyped contentless game.

Wow, I feel like being scammed by the microsoft store.
I have the Game Pass but because I like the game, I thought I'd support the Game by additionally purchasing it. In Germany it costs me 70€ (~81.5 USD) and I've bought it.
Now I get told to simply change the language... and it only charges me $53 USD (45€)
