I think the game is way too expensive!

  • Hello Rare,

Firstly, I avidly played the Betas and Scale Tests; thank you I had a great time!

However I firmly believe the game is way too expensive (in Australia at least). I completely understand that it makes sense to aim high initially, but I really do think it is far too high given the game that is being released. AU$99.95 is bordering on extortion, and I would expect to pay less than $80 for a premium AAA title at retail. For context, I manage a store in a major retail chain and am very experienced in Games Retail (10+ years) and I genuinely think this is a really hard pill to swallow.

Please reconsider the price as a matter of urgency! Even an AU$20 drop would do wonders for sales.

    Kind Regards,

    Chris Retailbeard

  • I do agree with the type of game it is a bit too much for what I have seen so far maybe when it's out there will be a metric chest lode of content i.e. Kill them bony S**M

  • Suggest you send this to Microsoft, their store, their developer, their price point.

  • 60 isn’t that expensive lol I feel like it’s realistic this game has never been made before and they put a lot of time into it.

When this game comes out it’s about to be so popular rare created a ticking time bomb of a game and the way they have approached the marketing and everything is brilliant they deserve it because they have created one of the most unique video games I have ever seen in my entire life. 👍👍

  • I have to wonder if it isn't a push for membership in their sub platform. I think this is going to be part of the xbox game pass, and I think it's a cheaper option.

  • @x-snowklown-x
I really think that it's far too much given other AAA titles (with way more content, lets be honest) have released at far lower price points. See Witcher 3 (AU$79), Forza 7 (AU$89), I could go on). $100 is way too much, and whilst I agree the game is excellent the price is extremely prohibitive

  • @digital-pho3nix trust me on this every moment you spend playing this game will be a different experience every single dollar you put into that game is well worth it. Not going to lie

  • @elroyman It will be featured in Xbox Game Pass, it is already being advertised. You may be right... unfortunately for those of us who are not interested in subscription services

  • It's a bit much considering there will be microtransactions as well. A game with microtransactions should be next to free IMO.

  • @x-snowklown-x As my original post stated, I played the game avidly through its Beta stages and I love it, and I will buy it, don't get me wrong. I think for the average dude who wants to pick it up for themselves or their child, $100 is not a throwaway purchase

@Rildan I believe the microtransactions are for cosmetic items only, so I really have no issue there. These are the realities of making profits in games today, thanks to EA

  • @digital-pho3nix Yes but so is the case with games like LoL and Fortnite, and they are still free to play.

  • @x-SnowKlown-x The game is worth about $79 USD in Australia (~100 AUD = ~79 USD) which is is ridiculous, but I think like osmeone else said, you need to reach out to microsoft and try, but they likely won't budge on it.

  • @digital-pho3nix in France it's 69.99 euro or 111.17 AUD so not that expensive

  • Nah, I disagree. 60 dollars is about the going rate for a game these days. If you get 100 hours of fun out of the game (I will get more) then you spent 60 cents per hour. If you have a very limited attention span and only get 10 hours of enjoyment, then you paid 6 dollars for each of those hours.

Not too much to ask at all.

  • I'm surprised it is not more.

Microsoft has not raised the price of there video games since the Xbox 360 launch. That was a $10 hike years ago. Now production cost for games has been worse than hollywood with games like destiny costing half a billion to make.

Games are more affordable now then they were 20 years ago with inflation.

Then again 1 tank of gas costs me $80 to fill my Hyundai Santa Fe in Canada. I can afford the $69.99 title and not order pop at the restaurant for $3.99 17 1/2 times. Laughs. There is worse ways to spend your hard earn cash.

  • I always thought that 60 bucks was actually fair. A triple A title like COD or something will come out and be around 65 dollars on release. And much more on pre-order. But yes, the Aussies who play are absolutely hammered with an unfair price, and it really is a shame. I wish I understood why they did that.

  • You know what I'm glad you brought this to my attention because after thinking about it, I don't think this game costs enough! It should be at least 80. I am canceling my preorder until they raise it up!

  • @cupohemlock Yeah that's my issue exactly, at the current exchange rates the game is the equivalent of around US$80.

US$60 is the RIGHT price IMO for a new release game, which is coincidentally around the AU$80 mark which is much more palatable.

  • Your judging the game based off the Beta and Scale tests?...I don't know how many times it has to be said, there's gonna be way more content than you have seen so far...they have said this many times...I have played in many Betas over the years and never once have I judged a game based off its beta...I am confused why alot of people are doing that for this game...I'm glad there not showing us everything the game has to offer in the Beta or Scale tests...Still has plenty of room to feel new and exciting at launch...there's alot of games I played that the Beta is basically the full game just unpolished...so when the game actually comes out its already been there, done that...can make you feel kinda bburnt out

  • Imo €69.99 is a bit much like Dydousith mentioned. 86 dollars is not normal... Would much rather order the $59.99 version.

Can agree with this, and seeing as we have not even come close to seeing the full game, it has my money and I really don't care about the cost. It will be worth it

  • Yeah its too expensive, clearly they should half the price and introduce loot boxes, maybe half the chests you dig up require keys to open that you use real money for and then the fun part..we get random loot, maybe even duplicates.
Then there could be season pass 1, then season pass 2 to cover any future updates.

Can we please keep this respectful; this sort of comment is outside the scope of this thread

  • @digital-pho3nix im not being disrespctful, just highlighting the all to usual way game publishers fleece consumers out of their cash, what rare has done is charge a fair price for a quality product, obviously in my opinion. At the end of the day if the price tag is too much for you then dont buy it. The sarcasm in my post wasnt aimed at the op, just at the publishers who choose the option i highlighted.

Hahahahha oh wait you were being snarky I forgot I pay for Xbox live every year and I bought an Xbox 1 with the patrol tech controller. This is Microsoft do you think they need more money? Oh and there are going to be micro transactions which are probably gonna be good quality this is rare aswell

You think a business would go to the expense of making something just for the pleasure it brings its consumers? Its nothing to do with whether or not they need the money.

Like I said this is Microsoft I know they don't care about joy but your point makes no sense for what we get (an always online game with no campaign) it's a bit stiff we gave titanfall a death sentence for that and oh micro transactions which hell I might buy. And besides the price is that for let me see oh yeah let me actualy just bring up a free to play game like warframe plantside 2 both these games are free but here I will use planetside as my case.

    1. Content for the price in PS2 is large maps with more players on at once with large scale battles 3 maps on 1 server.

    2. How it earns money. PS2 gets money through optional systems buying curancy for cosmetics or a subscription. There is no buy in and is available on PS4 and pc.

    3. Who made it SONY

So I ask you my dear sir care to explain why the buy in is so expensive for some people for me it's fine.

  • It's an expensive game for most PC gamers. However console gamers are used to getting shafted so they really don't see any problems.

  • @digital-pho3nix I dont think 60 for a game is a bad price. Its crazy to think that is pretty much standard for most releases here in the US. I dont think ive ever seen a new title go for more than 59.99 unless its a special edition.

  • Im suprised games have stayed so cheap, then again i know people that spend hundreds of pounds on 'free' games......whatever people want to do. I just dont have an issue with paying 50 quid for a game that i really had fun with in the last stress test. If its too rich for some then they have a choice

  • @digital-pho3nix I don't know if this has already been mentioned, but you are right in saying that in Australian Dollars, it is overpriced for the American counterpart. Just look up the conversion rates. $59.99 American is around $77 Australian. So why the the $23 on top of that?

  • @zelemon37 There have been several threads on the "price" of the game. It seems the purchase price is all over the place. The lowest seems to be in the United States ('merica!). With such a huge variation in prices you have to wonder about a couple things. First is taxes and tariffs. I don't know how individual countries handle taxes for entertainment, or digital downloads, but it is safe to assume with costs that seem this prohibitive that a big portion of this can be blamed on individual government policies designed to ration imports. Thus "protecting" the domestic gaming industry? Just spit balling here, but I find it hard to believe that MS and Rare are just willy nilly slapping different prices all over the place.

  • @touchdown1504 I understand your point and taxes and tariffs are most definitely dependent on your country, however $23 extra is a big increase. Idk what's up with Australia cause I've been seeing a lot of them talking bout the price.

  • Price differences between countries (for any product, not just games) are due to a variety of socio-economic factors, it's not a case of simply converting from one currency into the other.

That said, SoT is (and all games in general are) too cheap; ramp it up I say, 2x, 3x or hell, even 4x would be fine by me kkthx.

  • @rildan Cosmetic micro-transactions. The best kind of micro-transactions, They are just to make something look nicer. The 1st ones to be released are supposedly pets. So why would a game that doesn't require you to buy things,as opposed to Star wars battlefront 2, CoD WW2, Battlefield 1, and Clash of Clans to name a few. and all of those games also carried the $60 cost just for the base game you didn't even get DLC. So no not all games that have micro-transactions should be free.

I played DoTA 2 for years, the only micro transactions are skins, absolutely no impact on game play, its more of a status symbol. But people feel like the need the best so the shell out hundreds of dollars.
