Eye of Reach, Solved! (well, not really, it's just a suggestion)

  • Recently, I commented on a thread, complaining about... er... providing constructive feedback about the Eye of Reach.

Basically, I begged the SoT team to boost the speed with which the site could be moved, because it is so slow to aim that it makes me want to post a discussion to try to rally support to change it.

I tried to clearly state that I understood and appreciated that it shouldn't be a dominant weapon but a wise friend of mine pointed out how a powerful sniper weapon could diminish the game experience. Thanks a lot, actual friend of mine, for shining a light on the downsides of my opinions!

    To the point:
    Imagine this:
If a pirate-player, using an Eye of Reach weapon, would click to site it and just raise the weapon to ready, looking over the barrel, but not down the scope. So, the player's avatar would look over the gun and look forward, just as if with a pistol or blunderbuss. In order to scope in, the player would need to click again. And, of course, another click would bring the gun down to the hip, just like the other guns.

I feel like this really resolves the Eye of Reach siting question, at least 50 percent.

Any concern that the power of the scope would be abused is minimized by the option to use it as a blunderbuss. The Blunderbuss, of course, should be better if used in close to medium range.

Adding the extra click to bring up the scope would actually make siting targets easier, and perhaps reduce frustration about the slow speed of the scope. At the half-raised level, the player could line up the target, before looking in to the scope to take a shot.

Adding the extra click would also slow down players, so expert gamers wouldn't be sniping players abusively. The Eye of Reach rifles might revert back to "off the hip" mode, after every shot.. representing kickback, so the player would have to line up their shot again.

I hope this suggestion is understandable.

I think the SoT team is doing amazing work.

    Thanks!

Wow! Just played the new test game and the Eye of Reach is so much better! What blew me away the most is that my friend and I sniped at each other and we could clearly see flashes of light from the other's scope, which is a brilliant (no pun in tended) idea! I can't wait to try it out at night! Way to go SoT designers!
