i dont think people should be locked to ship sizes me and my friend wanted to do a 2 man group but use a big ship but instead were forced into a small weaker ship which is not really fun we wanted to sail a big proper ship, on the other side ive seen people who wanted to 4 man in a small ship, locking players from these options is going to put a fair few people off, sure it will be harder for a 2 man or solo on a big ship but it should be THEIR choice.
i was able to get a solo sail in a large ship for a bit and it was hard sure but i was able to do it, theres no reason to lock it off also the big one seems so much better
Allow any group size to use any ship size

There's an option. Queue with 2 friends for the 3 man option and brig the last guy.
No, that is griefing.
@jinxybinx Then, just take him along for the adventure, and if he does something you don't agree on, like ignore majority vote on where to go, you brig him. It shouldn't be griefing if he ignores you and your friends wishes as majority vote.

Sure, if the player is causing griefing themselves, lowering anchor, throwing chests overboard, not helping man the ship, then brig him. But don't brig a person for no reason.

In the ORIGINAL version of the game (i.e early testing) there was only the option to sail a galleon. This was later changed due to the alpha testers suggestions and the sloop was implemented.
What you are suggesting is a complete regression of that change.
Not to mention that sailing a galleon with one or two people is virtually impossible - and just forget about ship combat. Also, a sloop with four people is overpowered and ridiculous.
I had an earlier play session on a 2-man sloop where we were in combat with another 2-manned sloop. We would've been the victors had it not been for a third crew member (same sloop) flopping up on deck and harassing us to the point where we couldn't combat the sloop because we had to deal with the boarder.
The enemy sloop was unhindered due to it still having a crew of two.
I agree, for all I care you sail a Galleon alone.
But more than 2 people on a sloop should never be a thing.,
it would be render the Galleon totaly useless.@piggypuffin yeah true there should be a cap for them but any one should be able to solo or 2 man them if its hard to solo who cares? thats the persons loss people just want to have fun and for me i really enjoy the look and feel if a proper big ship but cant play with just two of use unless we and dicks and brig the third which sucks
@bartimaeu a two man sloop is a full crew... it is possible to sail the sloop with a single person, but even this becomes difficult during combat. A three man sloop, as mentioned in my previous post, is overpowered and not how the sloop was intended to be used.
I have to say I'd also like the option to sail with my crew on whichever ship we wish. We had a group of three last night and while it was fun being on the galleon, we had hoped to run a three man sloop. I see above that there is an argument that three or four on a sloop would be unfair, but I'm not sure how that argument works. A three man sloop is not going to out fight a four man (nor an organized three man) galleon. The previous post about a 3 man team outfighting a 2 man team with both groups on sloops isn't cheating. The same applies to a galleon with 4 vs. a galleon with 3.
Personally I think it would be hilarious to see a sloop egregiously overloaded with crew chasing around a galleon with a crew of four, trying to get close enough to board it. But maybe that's just me... -grin-
@tyronius-89 couldn't you have hte same problem if it was 3 of you in a galleon and the other group had 4? your main argument isn't really on the sloop but them having a player advantage which would be a possibility if youre doing anything other than a 4 man crew as it's the current max. It should be an option as a sloop is underpowered compared to a galleon even if it had 4 people on it, it can't match a galleon in terms of firepower. I say let any group have any ship as it's mainly how many players you have that make the difference, not the ship

The galleon is meant to be crewed by four, three is an option for thrill-seekers and those wanting an extra challenge. The sloop is designed for two players and one if you want a bit more challenge. Having three people on a sloop gives you an unfair advantage over other sloops. In any scenario, a three man sloop was not intended and should never happen.
@srix-kill4zz I agree with your statement. Put the Galleon back to the beast it was back when the sloop was introduced. They "r******d" it to try and balance battle between the two ships. All ships will be far more respected if the crew size is unknown. It fixes so many issues this game already has. Limit crew size to say 6 for all ships and leave it at that.
Its just the lack of a 3-men-ship (and women).
3 skilled men galleon vs. 4 skilled men galleon is always a problem.
And we weren’t skilled sofar ^^
So for my 2 guys and myself it was sometimes a mess ;-)Think of there were ships for every configuration, there was no cry for op mentioned.
Sloop is for 1-2 really great. Galleon for 4 also. Busy but great.
But for 3, especially vs. a skilled 4 men crew (or very good 2-man-sloop) isn’t really fair.
