How the grappling hook might ruin the game for sloops

  • So here's the thing, I was trying to transport as many chests in one go as possible yesterday, once I hit 12 I encountered a galleon who immediately started hunting me.
And then it started... I was more agile then them and from what I saw WITH the wind at least close to the same speed, against the wind they caught up really fast. So I just kept losing them around islands, breaking the line of sight etc... .there was no way they would catch me.

HOWEVER, they didn't let go. They chased me for over an hour.... given that I had 12 chests I couldn't just leave the game... So I had to run. It was the most annoying thing ever. But there was nothing I could do.

And here's the thing. Had they had the grappling hook I wouldnt have had the slightest chance to escape.

I think its gonna ruin gameplay for sloops once its out. There will be no more escape. And thus no point playin solo anymore.

So here's what I propose. The sloop needs to be faster still. Against the wind would make the most sense. But even with the wind, the galleon should take longer to turn around so the sloop has an actual chance of escape.

Situations like these will arise constantly because some people just dont wanna give up, or just plainly annoy the f*** out of you for their own fun.

  • did i miss something? is this a thing that is coming?

  • @eiswiisel I think they can easily implement the grappling hook as long as they allow us to cut it with a simple swing of cutlass. This obviously pose a new hassle for solo players as always, but again, what can we do? The sniper mode is a big hassle too, but it's gonna stay anyways.

  • @happyalbe

you are right, they can be cut away. I actually did forget about that. But the other issue still remains, you simply cannot gain any distance from them .. so all you do is run... and run... and run... its horrible

  • @lumpaywk

Well it's one of those things, you read about it online, but will it actually by added to the game? We don't know.. but IF .. then unless you can cut it away.. sloops are doomed.

Look, i partially agree with you. I sailed solo a lot and sometimes I'd rather play the game than run constantly around being chased by the first galleon in line of sight. However, i also have fun seeing those poor galleons trying to chase me for over an hour and not being able to catch me, even with the advantage of speed. Once they shot me and hit me three times at once, and i still managed to escape alive.

I hope there'll be a balance on those moment when you can play, and those when you can run. And possibly also find a way to escape the sharp shooters while maneuvering the ship. Being a solo, against a crew of 4, and being also targeted by snipers is a little frustrating.

  • @happyalbe Agreed, the cutlass cutting it would help.
