Only two weapons at a time. that isn't... accurate. How to fix these issues

  • So, I am going off the second scale test I did. What I noticed is that you can't carry 3-4 weapons anymore. Only 2. I know, this is meant for balancing purposes. But only.... well, let's just look at these drawings of real pirates.

See how they have at least a main sword, another melee weapon, and 4-6 different pistols? Yeah, pirates back then were decked out, so I believe we should... change a few things.

I think instead of having two weapons at a time, we have "tabs" on each weapon. Like, Let's say the player has six tabs, the sword has one tab, so does the pistol. You could have one sword and 5 pistols. Or, maybe the blunderbuss and the Musket count as 4 tabs. But, with that you can only hold one of the two handed firearms at a time, with one sword and one pistol.

This, in my opinion, balances out the issues. Same with having the weapon displayed on their belt or something.

  • so we've determined in another thread discussing weapon carry limit that the devs made it two for a few reasons.

    https://www.seaofthieves.com/forum/topic/30946/weapon-carry-limit-edited

one is that it follows through with their idea of horizontal progressing; somebody with a more than 2 weapons to carry officially has an advantage against all new players starting with only two.

another is that it prevents cheating with macros. with a macro, a player can shoot and switch between all 4 weapons and deal a lot of burst damage.

another reason is that it forces players to utilize melee more often and play an aggressive role rather than a safe one. it also presents more risk for carrying two ranged weapons for more ammo.

another reason is that it allows players to play different roles among a crew. one can have a sniper, the other a blunderbuss, another the pistol, and so on.

another is that it makes encountering players a lot more interesting; not every player you face is going to have every weapon in their inventory, and not all of them is going to carry a sword either.

the final reason is not really a well supported one, but some people just did not like to take the time to scroll between weapons until they equip the one they need. there my be more weapon types in the game other than the 4 we have now, and if the carry limit determines on the weapon type number, that can become annoying.

it is unconfirmed that they mad the carry limit two specifically for these reasons though, it may go back to three of four if the community thinks otherwise. so far, the two carry limit has provided a lot more benefits in terms of fairness and design rather than a carry limit of more than two.

  • @cheatingpirate just to clarify - the reason they carried multiple pistols like that was so they could have multiple shots - those pistols took forever to reload - muuuuuch longer than what it takes to reload in the game at the moment.

Currently, you have what, five shots on you that you can reload in a second? Consider that you having 'five pistols'.

  • @cheatingpirate
Realism isn't what Rare are aiming for, with walking skeletons, firing yourself from cannons, the kraken etc etc,

  • The only thing they need to do, is add an "ready your weapon"animation in order to stop people from quick switching

  • @dalinoge this idea is ridiculous, there are only two weapons😳

  • @cheatingpirate your name, and this idea are bad..

  • I like it, people were getting good at pistol-blunderbuss-quickscope combos

  • @boaton How? It makes no sense a pirate cannot carry a pistol, sword and rifle or blunderbuss. They are worried about people shooting, and quickly switching. So add an animation, and problem solved.

  • @cheatingpirate

I think the main reason why they let us only carry 2 weapon beside of the balance, it's for us to choose wisely what kind of pirate we want to be, and to make you think before your actions.

Of you have all weapons with you, you'll go careless.
But if you choose 2 you won't know what the other player will be carrying and what kind of approach he had chosen..
If you made a bad decision choosing the weapons, you'll think differently the next time..

    My example:
Inside the ship. I use sniper and Blunds.. on Island I use sword and pistol..

  • @dalinoge or just leave it alone and carry two weapons.. your idea ruins flow😕 a prime example is someone has boarded your ship and is hiding below deck. you go below to load cannonballs, planks, bananas into storage. they already have their weapon readied, on guard, prepared for an engagement. your idea would guarantee the invader wins with all things being equal 100% of the time.... the action is too fast and dynamic for your mechanic to maintain balance for anyone not prepared to engage. the sword stun is bad enough, this would break the game🤔

  • What I cannot understand is that I have to swap the sword for ranged weapons.
Why can't I carry 2 guns and 1 sword? That is so ridiculous and close minded that I can't even begin to explain, because I'd get a ban.

  • I think it would be fair if carrying two pistols allowed you to weild both at once. That would be awesome and a bit of balancing, maybe an accuracy penalty would even it out. Then when out of ammo you can only club people with the pistol. Infact if a pistol always has a secondary function as a club that did about half the damage of a sword but had no block, that would make a pistol / big gun combo something you'd see a bit more.

The speed switch between weapons is something that shouldnt be in any game if you ask me. Firing a gun before its even in your hands or pointing at its target makes nos sense. The weapon change animation is a great idea.

I also think its important that they make all carried weapons visible on the player models, with the exception of 1 pistol (maybe a special type with lower damage) that can be concealed. This would allow players to unequip all weapons and prove they are not hostile when attempting to communicate with other players.

  • @boaton No it doesnt. You think im talking about 10 seconds long animations. It could just be the clocking of the whatever its called to get the gun ready to fire. But whatever no point in argueing

  • Personally, just allowing us to hold one melee weapon and two firearms would be more than fine. I would especially prefer this if they add new weapons.

  • @cheatingpirate you're comparing real life pirates with pirates in SoT? the same pirates that shoot themselves out of cannons cause it gets them where they are going faster?
