How cool would it be if you could actually hold on to a rope and swing from up high in the sails or crows nest allowing yourself to try and board the other ship with a swing motion if the ships is close enough. That would really change things up!
Using Ropes On Your Ship To Swing To An Enemy Ship
@x-snowklown-x This idea is definitely a bit far fetched, but what better way to feel more like a pirate legend than swinging to your enemies and gunning them down among their own vessel!
If they had where you could just access the rope and swing with the momentmum of the ship allowing yourself to release it would be really cool. Because then players would have to watch above as someone is swinging over you with a sword or blunderbust, it also would mean if your timing isn’t right you could over shoot or come up short...
@x-snowklown-x Thats a good idea, maybe even having it as a more realistic way of getting out of the crows nest fast, rather then jumping and taking fall damage.
A rope mechanic has a lot of possibilities. Mostly I'd like to use it to get out of the crow's nest more quickly without injury. And not only swinging between ships, but ropes or hanging vines could be placed all over the map in interesting areas.
Throw in a grappling hook and you have yourself an adventure game.
And of course we'd need a somersault for flair.
@x-snowklown-x Was thinking the exact same thing. It would be a timing thing for when the enemy ship is passing or a strategy type scenario. I personally think that if a player was to swing and hit the side of the boat, instead of falling into the water they smash through the wood depending on the velocity they reach before impact. This would both damage the boat but in turn, injure the player that swings. They've made the decision to damage the boat but at a cost of them fighting for dear life with lower health.
This would mean there'd have to be a mechanic that counts down from the moment the player starts swinging and reaching maximum velocity. Hitting the boat beforehand would make you fall instead of breaking through, and you would also take a health bar blow. I think this would be a risky but if done properly, a great strategic choice.
