Player Score?

  • Oi me Mateys !

So is there any word on if we will know what our stats are at the end of the day?

I'd like to know how many bones i've killed, players i've taken, how many ships I've hit and how much Gold I've made.

After each login and a over all.

  • @fonzaye It could also be fun to know other things, like how many kilometers we've travelled, or even our top speed in the session

  • I would like to see a player leaderboard, and a ship specific leaderboard.

That way you can look up the top 10 most fear ships on the seas!

  • Ship-specific (by shipname) ok
    But no player-specific

It’s all about the crew & teamplay

But: it’s all about adventures, treasures etc. not just pvp killing lists...

  • @zealous666 I think that there should be two separate tabs for crew overall, and player overall, cause I cant tell you how many times I've taken out a whole crew with no help from my own crew...

  • The problem with ships/crews is that you won't play with the same if you use matchmaking. It's not like guilds in MMO, more like parties, and party statistics are quite uninteresting.

However personal stats like distance, time played, and stuff like that could be great yeah. As long as it keeps players from thinking it's a race to be the one with more kills or more gold. This game is cool, it don't need players that only think about... you know... having the biggest... "score".

  • I worry this kind of thing has the potential to be used negatively; especially if you can view other players' stats.

"Oh, yeah? How many this-es have YOU that-ed?"

It seems to go against the minimalism and simplicity the game strives to achieve.

  • @landiien I think minimalism is quite the wrong word to use here

  • Really hoping to see some type of leader-boards and also a way to view our own stats. Preferably with an in-game journal type system suggested by @Pikaaroon and perhaps a wanted billboard for notorious pirates at taverns as a leader-board (not bounty system).

I see what you mean - but I'm referring to minimalism in terms of the whole decluttering movement: minimalists.

In this case, the idea that less is more.

Less menus, less stats, less gear, etc - means focusing more on playing and having fun.

  • @landiien Ahh, I thought you meant actual minimalism as in lack of empathy towards development or something of that nature, you had my rum gone for a second there. Yup, that was the worst reference I've ever made and should probably have died by the cringe already...

  • @fonzaye I would love a feature like this! Something like end credits roll as you're logging out.

  • @bartimaeu That's a sound Idea.

@Landiien I'm really amazed that people worry about implementing a score at the end of your game.
Like really if you don't want to know then don't look, but for the rest of us who would like to know it would make for a great rolling credit out.

I'm afraid that SOT is really filling up with a bunch of p****s.

It isn't about not wanting to know, it's about players using the information in toxic ways. You can look to first-person shooters and DPS parsers in MMOs for examples.

SoT is filling up with people who want to keep it simple and fun for everyone, in keeping with the Pirate Code that Rare and the community wrote together.

  • @landiien The code will only be taken to heart by a few in the end.
It's not like I don't like the idea of SOT but toxic players are going to be a thing no matter where you play or what you do in the world.
So I'm not going to let them cut down good ideas and fun gameplay just because some will use it in a toxic way.
We need to stop being PC all the time because a few can't handle reality.

    Hello,

I believe that in game stats would be detrimental to immersion and overall vibe, it would be better to have third party websites and add ons focus on that. If implemented in game, stats would have to remain basic and should not take into account kills/deaths in and around outposts to minimize outpost ganking. This would create the foundation for a fair pvp ranking system (and solve the safe zone debate once and for all). The pirate code itself states disputes should be resolved at sea!

The legendary status could serve as a threshold. Any player below this rank would only have access to ranks that 'lead' towards that of pirate legend (though this rank can be reached through pve by anyone). Anoyone above would have to fight his or her way to up to progress on a kind of pvp ladder. Ladders could rank individuals or ships. Top ranks could be very competitive and only the best could reach the top of the ladder. The system could use old concepts from games such as wow vanilla and its wild pvp system (non-permanent top ranks), and possibly even take a look at popular pirate mangas to get some good ideas ;). A pvp system for Sea of Thieves would have to reflect the spirit of the game and not just turn it into another battleground.

    Cheers,

  • Leaderboards, the gateway to cheating. Means meet reason. Happens all the time. Test Drive Unlimited 360 version was notorious. 20 minute races being done in two. Atari didn't even try.

  • @topper-tuesday People are going to cheat be there a leaderboard or not. So because someone going to cheat shouldn't stop people wanting to know some stats at the end of the game know how they did... Hell I don't care if no one see's what my stats are, I just want to know them.

In just discussing the potential for a tracker, your last two posts have been toxic.

I don't feel that a stat tracker would add anything meaningful to the experience.

There will always be toxicity, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't be mindful of features and mechanics that could contribute to that kind of behavior.

I can't say a stat tracker would or wouldn't any more than you can. I can only speak from my own experience with other online games.

SoT is brilliant in its simplicity and my opinion is that a stat tracker is a step in the opposite direction.

That doesn’t really matter. You are a team. That’s why we are supposed to act like a team

  • @landiien You and I sir are cut from different cloth, may I see you in the seas and rain down some toxic cannon balls on you.
All in good fun of course.
