Any Computer Savy pirates here? I could use some help

  • I am not bright when it comes to PC's at all, but I am in need of an upgrade because my graphics card can't run SoT. I figured I might as well upgrade me whole rig but i'm not really interested in building a pc of my own.

Can anybody recommend me to a site with a decent budget pc that can run this game on at least moderate settings? I'm not looking for some monster PC that gets 500000 fps and runs every game in the past present and future on ultra hax settings on the highest resolution.

As long as I can run this game with AT LEAST 30 FPS on decent graphics (I want to see those amazing water physics) then i'm happy.

I've searched for PC's on my own but i'm not really sure if their specs are good or not.

  • @exactcorn602047 It really boils down to your budget and what you are willing to spend. then...taking a look at what you have now and whether its more cost effective to upgrade or go new... Some may cringe when I mention this next bit, but... Last year I had a system go dead on me. The cost to repair was more than I was willing to pay, but I was also in a hurry (school and all) so i just ordered an Alienware Laptop. Bought it off Dell's refurb site. it runs SoT at 60+ FPS no issues. point is, there are good deals out there. Just have to look for them.

  • Yup, knowing what your budget is will really help to point you in a direction. Also - have you every built a computer before? If not, it may be safer to buy a refurb or new.

  • @exactcorn602047 Try ibuypower.com. I also suggest a pre built gaming rig from Amazon. Asus Republic of Gamers series are very good better then Alienware IMO. A 2 year old rig can play modern game well. A few can even do desent 4k. If you want a custom rig just reply with your budget and ill list more suggestions.

  • @enf0rcer I'm hoping no more than $1,000 on my budget. Also no, i've never built my own PC before. I've only ever upgraded when my pc older PC stopped working completely.

I don't play games that require much PC power either. Overwatch is probably the most power hungry game I play and that doesn't require much. I joined the closed beta stress test and put my settings on cursed as well as the lowest resolution and only got like 5 fps so I need to upgrade because I really do enjoy this game as I love pirates.

I tried the ibuypower.com before replying to this and these are the specs I got which seem appropriate but I'd like a 2nd (and more educated) opinion than my own

With those specs you should be able 2 hit 4k 30fps. The only limiting factors are the 8GB ram and the hdd. These however can be upgraded down the line. 16GB and SSD's are now the standered for max performance. How much was this? A $1000 buget is the standard for gaming Rigs if you get the right discounts you can hit 4k 60fps on most games assuming you already have a 4k 60 capable screen.

  • @enf0rcer Excluding shipping it's about 960-970 ish.

here's the link to it I just changed the case to a cheaper one.
Normally money on something I want like this isn't important but I honestly don't care about beast mode PC's since I don't typically run hardcore games very often

  • @exactcorn602047 That's a good price for the performance. I don't know if you have a 4k screen, It can do 4k if not this will run at a locked 1080p and a buttery smooth 144fps plus. I would recommend installing a good temp monitor as that case only has 1 120mm vent as long as it is maintianed it should run great. Any other questions?

  • @enf0rcer I did get a new 4k screen today actually, still in the box. You've been a big help though thanks a bunch. I'd probably have found something incredibly unreasonable without your help.

No Problem. I'm happy to help. In fact hit me up in S.O.T and hopfully we can crew up. Im on xbox right now so we can chat if you need any more help. BTW whats the refesh rate of your 4k screen? Like i said that rig out the box would only run 30fps cleanly if that makes any difference to you.

  • @drbullhammer really i thought the rx was closer to 1080 thanks for the correction. So what is amd 4k equivalent?

  • @exactcorn602047
Hay if you want to run sea of thieves on your current rig, you can lower the game's resolution. I managed to run it arround 20fps on an amd A10 integrated graphics card which shouldn't be anywhere as good as your current one by lowering the game's resolution. You might even be able to bump it up from cursed and still get decent framerate and image quality if you use 720p or lower

Note: if you were trying to play using your 4k monitor you could have been unkowingly playing the game at 4k, this would absolutely tank the games performance. Make sure to check your settings if another beta comes arround to make sure your running at 1080p or 720p and I suspect you'de be wonderful with your current rig. :)

Edit: also another thing is to manually lower the system's resolution, at least while playing the game. On windows you can right click the desktop and select display settings from the drop down menu. This should help at least with a fancy 4k moniter, sad not to see its full glory :(

    Additional Edit, Because Derp :P
I mistook that list of componants for your current rig, oops. Still my above points can be helpful.

Anyways, at the moment graphics cards are through the roof in price due to cryptocurrency miners buying them by the dozen. Buying a gaming pc now could potentialy be a few hundred bucks more now for new tech then it will be in the coming months.

  • @enf0rcer

You're thinking of the RX VEGA. That stuff is closer to at 1080 Ti.

  • @siriondb Yes your right it was the Vega overclocked is great on par even a bit better the TI IMO.

  • @drbullhammer wow really you can run overwatch at 4k 60 but not S.O.T damn. I thought S.O.T would be a lot less resource hungry.

  • @drbullhammer what dynamic stuff, the lighting, the shaders. Maybe it's being use to decompress all the 4k assets?BTW thats a nice setup you got.

  • @drbullhammer I would hope so to. They said they were working closely with graphics manufacturers, AMD,Nvidia and Intel plus they have micrsoft dream team to work with. Testing on so many platforms. Hope they will at least get you 4k at 30fps. or 1080P 60.

  • My PC in particular is just really old and has some pretty outdated specs. (Least for games these days)

I never bothered upgrading despite it being really old because I was always playing low-end games. Hearthstone, League of legends, Overwatch, Killing Floor 2 etc. Most of those games can be run with decent settings by simply lowering the resolution a tad bit.

SoT despite it's optimizing is still and open world game with lots of flare. My current PC can't keep up and render all of that and makes it hard to run, so I decided to just go ahead and upgrade one last time so I could run it as it'll probably be my main game for quite a few years.

I've been looking for a pirate game like this to play since Kingdom Hearts came out and I was introduced to pirates of the carribean, but sadly nobody ever comes out with good ones. State of Decay 2 is also coming out later this year supposedly, shouldn't be a resource hungry game though

  • @exactcorn602047 Hey i was just correct on the specs for S.O.T it is apparently more resource hungry then anticpated. It is recommended to get a slightly new grapics card but they are hard to come by due to the bit coin miners..
