Capturing Enemy Boats? Repairing during Naval Combat?

    When I capture another enemies boat and my crew kills the enemy crew, we commandeer their ship, but the bloody b******s keep spawning back on it! This is insane. Once you have taken over an enemy ship and have successfully wiped out the entire crew, they should not be able to spawn back on their ship! It destroys the whole point of capturing/stealing an enemy ship to begin with if they keep spawning back on it. PLEASE Rare, fix this so that if you eliminate the entire enemy crew, they can not keep spawning back on their ship. It be mine for thee taken!!! Rrr....

    Also, in naval combat, a pro gamer brought to my attention that repairing should cease until after the fight; that way, you don't have someone at the bottom of the boat repairing the whole time while combat is ensuing. As of now, the naval battles last forever because there's one guy on each crew that is just constantly repairing and the fight lasts forever and no one sinks. This way would be a good alternative to reward those players who land precision shots on the opposing ships and repairing would then be unlocked again for the winner of the battle.

    These two mechanics are perhaps the most important to change because otherwise, the experience is somewhat tainted knowing you can't truly steal another team's boat, because they will just continue to spawn on it and naval combat (as of now), becomes exhausting just having players repair constantly in the midst of battle.

    Rare, please fix these two things and we'll be golden and ready to set sail!!!!!!

    This is the one feature I wish they would add - you should absolutely be able to take other peoples ships and add them to your fleet - prob not allowed though as it would just end up a lot of single sailors on galleons

    No the fight will last until you aim your cannons better to be putting holes in it faster than they can patch up or they run out of materials. certainly not forever.

    I like the first Idea, but what would happen to your old ship? Would it just disappear and the enemy crew gets a new ship somewhere else or would you swap ships with the other team?

    I'm not a huge fan of the second idea, I agree that some battles could take a long time, but not being able to repair until the fight is over would just end up in both ships sinking. I think the way it is now is perfect.

    I imagine you could steal their ship while keeping yours as well (just split up your crew) and/or ultimately, just take theirs and eventually yours would be consumed by the environment (i.e. sink, run into land, etc...)

    That would be much better than what it is now. It's so annoying having the enemy crew spawn over and over on their ship once you have conquered it, so this change (if implemented) would be brilliant!

    I see your concern over the second point. Another gamer brought it up to my attention and I likewise find the naval combat to be exhausting since both sides are constantly repairing. This needs to be changed somehow... I'm just not sure how. But as is, it's exhausting. And I think something along the lines I suggest could be implemented... just not sure how yet... but Rare is pretty creative so we'll see!!!

  • The main thing about removing repair during combat is that it becomes a question of who lands the first shot. Once that first shot lands, it starts a timer. If no other shots land due to a variety of reasons, the crew that landed the first shot wins. I'm not a fan of that.

    Then there is the combat consideration itself. How do you determine when you are in combat? What about when one ship wants to be left alone and flees? The fleeing ship takes a hit, but now is condemned to sink because they can't repair. Then the players who don't like PvP already will really, really not like PvP.

    I don't think that removing repair during combat would be a good idea.

  • I think reducing plank storage could be enough for repairs. It would be different if you could only pull it off for so long. The galleon holds like 50 planks, so you can just fight and fix for ages.
