Killing players and boarding enemy ship suggestions

  • I feel like the rewards for killing someone or successfully boarding an enemy ship and killing them all are non-existent.

If you kill someone on an island with an active treasure map, a copy of it should drop so you can effectively steal it from them before they return to the island.

Likewise, if you board an enemy boat and kill the crew, there’s no fast way to damage their ship other than aiming for a rock or islands. It’d be great if you could tear off the wooden planks they’ve used to repair their ships, re-opening the holes on the hull of the ship. Just walk up to one, hold the button for a period of time, and watch the water flow.

PvP is really fun, but considering whenever you kill an enemy ship it respawns at the closest outpost, there needs to be more reward for the risk you take on in battling them.

If I can just keep coming back with a fresh ship and nothing to lose, eventually I’ll “win”.

  • More reward? Currently it's common knowledge that there is NO RISK attacking other crews you have nothing to lose but time. There is nothing but reward to be had! It's low risk/high reward right now in the current state of the game. You attack and fail you lose nothing! You attack and succeeded you could gain chest! You attack and succeeded and you enjoy harassing others you can now spawn camp them until they have enough of it.

NO RISK! HIGH REWARD. A huge part of the player base feels there needs to be a higher risk, not more reward. If you attack and fail you need to lose something. You need to be punished so you think twice about randomly attacking everything you see. You see this maybe a Pirate game, but Pirates don't attack everything they see. You see this maybe a Pirate game, but Pirates are actually more caculcated then aimlessly attaccking everything they see. You see this maybe a Pirate game, but Pirates are smart enough to know their are consequences for their actions. Sure it's a Pirate game, but that doesn't justify attacking just because.

If you were a real Pirate an instantly attacked every person you saw you would pay for it. Currently you don't pay for nothing. You're free to continue to be an aimless Pirate who wants to justify his aimlessness with the fact it's a Pirate game.

There needs to be more risk! Not more reward!

  • You're both sort of making the same point. If the risk of losing is increase, the reward of winning is increase. If you win, the losing ship should spawn further away, giving you the reward of more time to collect chests without being harassed by them. What we realy need is higher risk, which will naturally increase the reward.

BUT also as the OP says, taking a ship fully needs some sabotage mechanic like in startwars battlefront 2. You can currently detonate any explosive barrells on board, take their cannon balls, drop their anchor and spawn kill a little, but these are all situational. The plank pulling is a grand idea but also situational. It would be nice to be able to consistantly sabotage a ship somehow for a small period (15 - 20 seconds).

Maybe this: If all members of the crew are dead, respawn time is extended by 10% per dead crew as long as you have players onboard the ship.

So if 2 players kill an entire 4 player crew and leave one player on the ship whilst the other unloads chests, thats a extra 40% to respawn time. 30s would become 42s. If not that exact system, then something that penalizes a crew if they have enemy crew onbaord and noe of their crew are alive, I think that would be justified.
