Just had the pleasure of duoing with a first timer!

  • Just finished a session with someone who had never played the game before and knew only snippets of information about the game.

It really made me appreciate all the little details about the game i had since forgotten since my first time. Hearing them figure out how the sails and map works, the first voyage and helping him work out his first "X" marks the spot and watching while he dug up his first ever chest.

It was really fun hearing the reactions and awe/excitement of someone seeing and experiencing the beautiful world of SoT for the first time. hearing the comments about how the developers have done beautiful work on the islands and the ambient sounds through his headset.

There not really much reason for this thread, i just thought I would comment about all the little things i have been reminded about and all the great small details Rare have worked so hard to add to make there world unique. Thanks for letting me share in your maiden voyage @LILt2006 it was a pleasure! :)

Also Out of curiosity for any other pirates getting there sea legs for the first time today:
what stood out to you on your maiden voyage? Is there anything memorable what jumped out to you and made it unique?

  • I've joined a 4 man crew and it was all of their first time, It makes you appreciate all the little tricks you know and miss how amazed they sound when you hear "OMG that's awesome" etc.
I think I will look forward to joining new comers almost as much as playing with veterans, as you can almost feel the excitement in their voice and the thirst for adventure.

  • really? it mostly annoys me personally shrugs

  • I recall the first time me and my crew dug for treasure together. We had a hard time finding the chest as it was in the middle of a forest so landmarks become difficult. We ended up spending 10 minutes randomly digging in the ground till one of our crew mates let out a screech and we all rushed over. Poking out of the ground was the outline of a beautiful seafarers chest. One of the best feelings I have playing the game today is nailing chest locations on my first dig.

  • @its-s****. Yeah it's great! Ive been in a few but this one was brilliant. I really enjoyed showing him the ropes and yet not giving to much away and leaving it for him to work out and experience it for himself.

I had alot of fun hearing the reactions and his feedback and hopes for the game. :)

  • @elite-assasin87 Aha! The first chest always does have that great sense off pride! I still remember mine, i was very lucky enough to be shown the ropes by @KattTruewalker and @lizalaroo who made the experience very memorable and unique! :)

@Jack-LittleShoe Ohh really, thats a shame. Maybe once you are more familier with the game you might enjoy showing newer players the ropes. Each to there own i suppose.

  • @knifelife eh i had 20ish hrs in the last scale test so i know somewhat what i'm doing, it's nothing against newer players, it's just that teaching annoys me for some reason :/

  • i still remember the first ever tech alpha session. so all 4 of us were fresh off the boat, and to this day it remains one of my favorite play sessions in the game. We were all figuring out things together. I remember we spent like 30 minutes looking for one chest on an island, and when we finally figured it out, it was like we had found a treasure chest in real life.

  • @jack-littleshoe Ive been playing for a few months on and off so have had the pleasure of seeing the game evolve other the time i have been active.

I personally to am not particularly one for mentoring on most games, i usually keep to myself most of the time. But its just this game what draws me into it, i love the world and meeting members of the community and sharing in there adventures and stories. Its very strange for me personally and hard to explain as ive never had it on another game.

Maybe you will to at some point, we have a brilliant community so you never know what will happen, you might find yourself suprised. :)

Yeah I do feel the same when I'm teaching someone who's new to the game. It's like passing our joy to them and see them appreciate as we did.

And this is the main fact that makes me think this game doesn't need any kind of tutorial!

They should let us learn from experience and from/with others then we'll help others. This is the magic of this type of game.

Let's say NO to tutorials! And say YES to shared knowledge!

    I agree!

  • @nunoazuldimeter Well put indeed! couldnt have put it bettet myself! I wish i could see it all for the first time again aha!

Then again launch will have those moments so roll on March 20th! :D

  • Well i tried the game a bit more this session and i learned quite a lot.
Working out the "X" on a map and scurrying with the treasure back and handing it in was alot of fun especially since i had to dodge a galleon through an archway and another sloop around a little island for about 4 laps.
Also the storms....wow they are cool...
And the general sailing and (as i am not a pvp type of guy) watching my back is pretty nice although i got caught the very first time since i was still learning the ropes.
All in all its a pretty cool game. Ah and the visuals in general and the sounds(there is a scary sound at nighttime like some muffled deep huge creature howling).

  • @leuciscuscephal It is great fun learning everything and figuring out all the little things in the game, i also have to agree i love the storms aha most people dont though.

And some scary howling at night you say? I hear rumors of from other pirates about a Kraken that prowls the seas and ambushes unaware ships. Probably just an old fish wives tale though ;)

  • The first voyage honestly feels the same as every voyage I've had since. I can't get over the magic of what's been created, and will probably keep picking up the game so long as the servers are running, just to go sail around a bit more.

The other thing that wi forever be memorable to me about this time, is the connections to my mates back from college. We're all in different parts of the country (US) now, and I'm the only one who games via Xbox. Having the ability to cross-play with them has been spectacular.

  • @knifelife great post and great coaching ^^

  • @knifelife Ah yes...might be that the Kraken stirs beneath the waves, awoken from deep slumber by all the pirates sailing and battling.
Yes indeed, something's happening down in the depths of the Sea.. ;p

  • @spectrazy666 Thanks matey! :)

@LeuciscusCephal Who knows what stirs in the deep dark depths, only launch will tell xD
