I'm getting really tired of all the folks without mics. From now on if people don't have mics I just vote to lock them in the brig...
I wouldn't mind if this became standard practice aboard all crews.
No Microphone = Go to the Brig
@getschmiton
They could at least do me the favor of investing $5 on a mic if they want some respect...Something I learned a while ago, that maybe you could think about - There are some gamers that have speech impediments (for various reasons, including hearing issues). Also some gamers have anxiety problems that do not mix well with voice chat.
Instead of blindly holding it against people, we can manage to try and get through the terrible trouble of playing a game with someone without them speaking to us. With the in-game chat (T), as well as the featured communication commands (G), it's completely possible to function well as a crew together.Sometimes it is good to think beyond our own experiences and do our best to have fun, and allow for others to have fun as well.
Just my two bits.@zakarus what if they can't afford 'just $5' for something they won't use very often....what if they have a physical disability that prevents them from being able to speak....what if they are only playing late at night when everyone else is asleep....
what if you just be a pleasant human being and 'allow' people to play 'your' game as they want?
@blackbeard-lufy said in No Microphone = Go to the Brig:
@ghost101mm You don't need a mic. The in-game chat functions works really well.
You have to let people know you're being sarcastic, they might think you're being serious...lol

Don't even try the "What if they can't afford $5", this game costs $60.
The most fun I have had on Sea of Thieves is when my mic stopped working (was acting up that day) and my crew stopped being able to hear me so I spammed message with quick chat.
Was in the crows nest spamming "Looking good" until I saw enemy ships. Then I would say "I see a ship," give the direction via compass, and ring the bell like a madman.
Crew was dying of laughter.
@zakarus said in No Microphone = Go to the Brig:
@triheadedmonkey I respectively disagree sir
Isn't the saying respectfully disagree? xD
Haha, well, what about the time I hopped into a game with mic and the other 3 didn't have their mics on and voted ME to the brig... I'm guessing they were buddies using discord or something, how else would they coordinate voting me to the brig without mics? But, still, seemed a bit backwards...
I have been on plenty of crews in the past where when someone spawns in without a mic we give them a chance. First, we ask them to jump if they can hear us. Then we ask them to say something with in game chat that requires them to switch items from whatever they're holding to make sure they understood how the contextual chat works. Then, we let them know they better use the in game chat or we'll brig them. 99% of the time, they do great, are great teammates, and communicate as well as possible using the in game chat options. Once or twice someone got discouraged and just disconnected. And only one time ever has someone passed the initial test only to be utterly useless and sent to the brig.
Not having a mic isn't the end of the world. It might seem frustrating at first, but some of my best crew members have been without mic. Give it a shot, give them a chance instead of assuming they'll be worthless without a mic. Chances are you might be missing out on a great and useful crew member! I'll take a silent crew member that actually takes orders, moves sails into the wind, helps dig up treasure, etc over someone with a mic that has never seen a boat before in their life and are about as useful as a fish flopping around on the dock.
They could have a mic. I do, and for some reason I still can’t hear ppl and they can’t hear me. No, it’s not broken, it worked fine for the beta, and worked for my husband this morning. My new theory is that if you play on Xbox you may have to have a Gold membership to access these functions. My husband has Gold and I don’t. I couldn’t hear a single person all last stress test, and so far it’s the same for this one. Real frustrating when I’m saying hello but still get sent to the brig because they can’t hear me. And, if true, there’s nothing I’ve seen that TELLS you you need Gold, so could be other people with the same problem.
@spr1nk said in No Microphone = Go to the Brig:
@hereticrick first, this game works without gold?
Second, are you playing on the same Xbox? And is it set as his home Xbox?
Thats right if it his (and its set as his home) then you just piggy back of his. Make sure you have inadvertantly changed some of the game settings too.
@ant-heuser-kush I don't see how wanting to play with people that use mics means he thinks he better than anyone, that's just the way he prefers to play (the way I prefer it as well) and really he should not be attacked by people like YOU just because of that
For some people this game is just considerably less enjoyable when playing with people who don't use mics

I wouldn't mind if this became standard practice aboard all crews.No. How about anyone who thinks they're better than someone else gets voted into the brig? I'm getting tired of people like you.
What about people that are actually better? Should they be put into the brig?
Example: Someone who owns and uses a mic is better than someone who doesn't... lolNuts LOL !
@Zakarus if you want to brig folks for not having a mic, go for it. Most people see that as being a jerk (sorry stronger language not allowed). I know I do. But that is ok, free country and all of that jazz. You just go on being you brother, I got your back. That is the kind of person you want to be, i don't like it, but I support your right to be a DB.
A simple solution for the rest of you is this. Dude's gamertag is right here...go into Xbox and block him. BOOM never have to pair with ol' Zak'Attack. Simple, fixed. No need to fill the forums with this nonsense from what is obviously a trolling post. Just let it die. Anyhow my two bits, I am out.
@Zakarus I think that there should be an option to search for people with mics only. I don't know how this would work but it would solve the problem and also mean you dont have to take the fun away from others
@DrBullhammer
I think not having a mic is disruptive...Also this is supposed to be a social game. Kind of hard to be social when all you can use on xbox is pregenerated messages.
@zakarus This is rather disgusting. This is nowhere near SoT standards. The game is for everyone and will continue to be so. Please don't be so toxic and enjoy the game!
