I think it would be cool if there are different types of ships for the sloop and galleon. For example a mortar ship that can shoot really far but is more slower. These different types should be available from the beginning so new players don't have a disadvantage.
Different types of ships from the start
@joda1123 On day 1 everyone will be at the same stage, and their will never be a "disadvantage" their is going to be no high ranked player in the game because their will be no rank system in the game, its all skill based
I kinda like the idea, or even just reorganized Ships, so you don't have the same ship over and over and over and over again. I think after a couple hundrets of hours in the game, you get tired of the same ship again and again.
Sure this has to be balanced bc you can't have like faster ways to something, but I think RARE is able to create some more fair ships, that just give you some differences in the game. I know if there are ships with different locations for everything there could be a *Meta Ship style which gives you advantages like faster getting to the anchor and co.
I just think only having 2 ships as an option is kinda boring in the really long term.
@destrolock13 I have the feeling they don’t intend to have us all on 2 identical ships for the lifespan of the game. 😉
@destrolock13 I tried posting a thread on various ship ideas ... But there seems to be more important discussions going on... 😆

I think your confused and meant there are no player levels. Actually i think this game needs a ranking sytem as the only thing that matters is players skill. That's why there is ranking system in virtualy all skill base games, but to your point you are correct there is no leveling system so there is no disadvantage to new player. There is however an inherant disadvantage to playing solo an i think the problem is most new players come in thinking that they should start solo even thou its made perfectly clear that the recommended way to start the game is with a 4 man crew. Players however still continue to make suggestions to make it easier to Solo.

Starting solo is not really bad, but I completely agree that it is some what misleading if you do not read the details prior to setting off on a voyage. in regards to ranking system, did not one of the deckhands make a comment about adding a personal stat feature like a journal or something? Seems like something would be enjoyable.
I prefer the way Rare has it. Simple. No ranked status and this doesn't dishearten newcomers at any time. If I start seeing golden Galleons with huge cannons and tie-dye sails, I would honestly quit the game and never play it. I prefer to be humble, so once I become more skilled I won't have like the admiral cosmetics or most expensive ones. I would just be bare bones and people would think I am not as skilled, where as I will bamboozle them with my cannon flying and Galleon sinking skills.
It's annoying that people don't get 4 players is better than one on average. No way should 4 v 1 ever be a fair fight. I'd like to see a ranking based off consitant performance rather than lifetime score.
There could be the guild ranks for adventuring and then a pirate rank based pretty much entirely on your sunk to did the sinking ration, with accolades and rewards based on where you place.
Top 20% ranked players could get to choose from some nice captain hats and fancy swords. Top 5% get to choose an advanced ship skin and a nice figurehead. Top 1% get to generate a unique sail and pick an aura (something that surrounds the ship to add a little atmosphere.)
Auras could be like black water surrounding the ship, shadows swimming around near it, black mist coming from the woodwork. Something that identifies the ship as of a higher calibre but only visible at close range and not offering any actual advantage.
I'd prefer a % system since it removes the pssibility that everyone will eventually become super presitigous pirates, which would make the accompishment feel kinda mute.
@Joda1123 I think there's a lot of like minded people, that want to see diversity in ship classes.
Check out this thread on some ideas!
https://www.seaofthieves.com/forum/topic/30448/5-ship-types-for-sea-of-thieves-speculation-graphic@avirex-idyll What would you suggest would make the start of the game more clear, so new players are not misled when they frist start? I agree with you there nothing wrong with playing or starting solo but it does incures more risk with little extra reward. Also i do hope they add a journal ingame stats are alway useful and appreciated. Thou if the game is meant to be a display of skill there should be a number or icon or somthing to use as a reference point.

I think the game needs some sort of tutorial phase. Does not have to be a full on step by step, but there should be something.
@ch3wiie I posted a thread on a Man of War idea/thoughts... Didn't seem too many people were open to discussion on more ship variety...
@inbred-chimera Ahoy Cap'tn! Seems we meet under nice conditions on this Sea of Thieves registers!
I am fully supportive of your idea and would like further details for I believe that you are under something well shiney!!1- Would the ship be spawned from the cap'tn account ?
2- Would you have a sloop as well as a galleon ?
3- Would it be possible to have categories unlocking sloop OR/AND the galleon ?
4- Is it possible to activate/deactivate the skin/part of the skin (i.e. aura, sails, MIGHTY FLAG, etc ...) ?
5- The ship being a mirror of a pirate's carreer (and styllish other items but this is not the topic at hand), and if the part of skin can be activated/deactiviated, wouldn't it be fun to still have a distinct way of signaling these mighty pirates to others ? (then again deceit is a pirates best ally AYE!)@ironuzuka Hello again.
1 - Captain's ship is the one that spawns. This also allows players who have not reached higher ranks to still experience the fancier ships, so long as they have proved themsevles worthy of a plaace on that ship. Poor players will bring down the captains score so he'll be wanting only skilled pirates onboard.
2 - Ofcourse, though the ranking will not be separate since sloops would have a harder time. The ranking could be based purely on K to D ratio or on a wide ranger of stats, which would make it fairer for the single cannon sloop.
3 - not sure what ye mean.
4 - You can choose to apply it after scuttling / joining a server, but not mid-play. The only think that should ever be concealable on the fly is the flag, which can be raised to hid its design.
5 - The game's system of customization would still exists, along with whatever legendary ships turn out to be. Or maybe the design would be exclusively for legendary ships. It's true that the player puts themselves at a disadvantage by revealing who they are too early, but it also deters people from attacking them and the very visible level of prestige could lead to other acting favourably in some situations (players handing over chests instead of fighting, or working for them for a chance to sail on their crew sometime.)
This would work better once better consequences for being sunk come into play. As people have said, right not there's very little reason not to fight, but when losing results in being spawned miles away and losing a bit more time getting back to the quest, more player encounters will involve diplomacy. A lot of people disagree with this, but I believe pirates didn'allways kill people and sink their ships. Sometimes they probably just used intimidation to get what they wanted.
A lot of what i've seen suggested for ship variety has been this:
3 man ship 4 man ship 5 man ship 6 man ship 7 man ship 8 man ship.... It's not true variety, just an expansion of the scale of the ships which I don't think will ever be in the game outside of unique events / quests. What might work is variants of the galleon / sloop. Maybe a galleon with a prow mounted swivel gun instead of the forward mast, making it slower but giving it some pursuit power. The swivel could reload slower for balance too.A sloop with 2 cannons per side but lower meanouvreability, or a hull-mounted forward gun loaded from above deck but unavle to pivot at all.
a galleon with only 3 guns per side but a hightened forecastle (great for boarding actions / defense.
Stuff that lightly changes the way a ship works but without making it more powerful. But I'm fairly sure such things will eventually be in the game since its already quite a widely favoured idea.
