ADS Sensitivity on PC

  • I was sitting around thinking what I thought could be improved for Sea of Thieves and the first thing that came to mind was the insane sensitivity drop while aiming down sights on PC. I'm not sure if this is an issue on console as well but everyone I know has an issue with how it works right now. I don't know if it's a bug or some way of "nerfing" the mouse in order to balance pvp between PC and Xbox players but it is quite annoying. A slider for ADS sensitivity would be amazing to see in the final game! Because during the beta and the stress test I used a dpi switch that upped my dpi from 600 to 2400 while in ADS which was a solution, but not a great or efficient one.

  • @getschmiton it is for balance between PC and XboX

  • @avecrux well then that's a pretty bad way to balance, it's pretty frustrating and there's a work around. They can surely think of better ways to balance pvp than just straight up hindering a peripheral.

  • @getschmiton there are always some ways to work around but this one is ok i think.

  • @avecrux do you play on pc or xbox? cause if you used a mouse I'm sure you wouldn't think it was ok.

  • @getschmiton im on PC

  • @avecrux and you're fine with them just hindering a mouse in order to make it more "fair"? Cause the way it is now the only way to be accurate is to do a sort of "quick scope" and if it's not the same on console then it's not really fair. I don't play on console so I wouldn't know if your sensitivity goes down while aiming but if it doesn't than I couldn't really call it fair.

  • @GetSchmitOn

For me pistol and blunderbluss ADS is good. The real problem is ADS with sniper.

    @avecrux
I know this is for a balance, but you know on PC we can have DPI multiplier, This action need to activate an option which permit to boost DPI. So the current "balance system" isn't good.. Because it's only applied to some PC players (ones which can't do this DPI boost).

I have purposed solutions in a thread at the first beta on sniper ADS problem, lot of peoples have speak about this (Xbox & PC) :
    https://www.seaofthieves.com/forum/topic/27240/sniper-aim/

  • @getschmiton I'm on PC as well. It does not bother me, but of course it is not the usual behaviour that people got used to playing other fps games. I adapted to it by frequently re-aiming.

In my opinion, different games, different behaviour. Balance or not..

Edit: I would love it if they brought the sniper rifles "sloweness" closer to the other guns' though. Even just a bit of adjustment in it requires crazy long mouse movement and feels a bit too unnatural even while constantly re-aiming. Imo it doesn't have to be the same speed as the blunderbuss, but at least a bit closer..

  • Same PC player here the ADS with mouse isn't a problem slow yes but most of the combat in this game slow paced so it fits decently well.

  • @pigeonman-beam I just feel that there's a better way to balance pvp between PC and Xbox, cause I'm not really okay with them just straight up hindering a peripheral. If they're gonna keep it in the game they should at least make it a lot less harsh than it is.

  • @getschmiton i am ok with this sensitivity. You don't even use a weapon that much.

Which way would be better to balance pvp?

  • @getschmiton I'm not sure the reason for it having to do with Xbox vs. PC. Both Keyboard and Mouse and Controllers have their ups and downs. I could also be wrong, I feel it's more to keep everyone one even playing field despite the platform. From the feeling I get Rare wants a very basic addictive game style that anyone can jump into and have fun.

  • @avecrux I mean during pvp you use weapons a lot.

And as for a better way to balance I'm not sure, I'm not a game designer, all I'm saying is I think that the guys at Rare are smart enough and clever enough to come up with something better than how it is right now cause this is a bit much.

  • @getschmiton which one? I mostly used a cannons in pvp to sunk enemy ship, we weren't brainlessly ramming enemy. blunderbuss were used few times when they were on our ship but mostly it was cutlass. I think cannons and cutlass are most used weapons in PVP. I've played over 40hrs and i am with majority whos okay with that sensitivity.

  • @pigeonman-beam And I completely understand that they want everyone to be on an even playing field but it's just super unnatural the way it is and I'm pretty sure they haven't done anything to the controller in terms of balance.

  • @getschmiton They didn't do anything to the controller, because it is harder and slower to aim with it. The PC players had to be balanced knowing that, not the controller ones. Why do they need to balance the controller anyway? They don't get auto-aim either (not counting the cutlass with skeletons, which is enabled for both mouse and controller players).

  • @getschmiton I understand that. It really does feel weird coming from fast paced FPS, most games allow the player to choice what they like on their preference. I don't know if I would say it's "unnatural" since I feel like in a real life you wouldn't be swinging your weapon around super fast while ADS. I can agree though in terms of video games it's highly different and can have unnatural feeling due to it being the norm in gaming.

  • @avecrux thats a pretty bad way to balance things

  • @kgmshylian It might be harder and slower to aim with a controller for people who aren't used to it, but for people who play on the xbox they're used to it just as pc players are used to how the mouse works. All I'm saying is the balance or "nerf" to the mouse feels a bit harsh and might need to be toned down a bit.

  • @kgmshylian said in ADS Sensitivity on PC:

I completely agree, cause the pistol and blunderbuss and manageable. They should just remove the nerf for the spyglass though cause that's a little bit pointless.

  • @getschmiton You can't set dpi for your turnrate or ADS movement rate on the controller. Therefor it's already a disadvantage to just TURN while holding the weapon, let alone aim. While on mouse I can drop the aim and turn 180 in a millisecond. I don't think it is only a matter of practice how slow/fast you get to aim with controllers.

    Yea I agree

  • @getschmiton Like I said I don't think it has much to do with PC. vs Xbox. As they could easily allow both to have a slider so every play gets to their liking. It has to do with more of just game balancing besides the platform. Last I remember we don't have brightness slider for either also. It's more of just how the game players and keeping everyone despite the platform equal. Without putting to much restrictions.

  • I just want to say options are always nice! In the end if Rare feels like adding a Slider I'm 100% fine with it! If not happy sailing. :) If people are worried PC players will make it unfair people should really look out for those Elite controllers coming from someone who owns them they can be quite deadly, or those players with expensive headsets, or people with Xbox one X, or the people with custom monitor settings for built in crosshairs. You can't stop anything from being truly fair. The devs try their best that's all that matters.

  • All you guys are bringing up great points lol, I guess I just think the balance is a little too harsh for the sniper and I think it would be better if it were at the same rate as the other weapons and maybe a little slower. I also think they should just remove the hindrance for the spyglass cause that doesn't really have to do with pvp.

  • @getschmiton Nah it's understandable! You had great point also why don't we have these things. I don't think its as simple as "Xbox vs PC" or "Lazy Developers" or anything for that matter. It very unique. I'm just getting the vibe from post and interviews. "Rare" Want the whole game that anyone can jump in and play no matter if it's 2 months after launch or Day one to have even playing experience. Which is why almost everything is cosmetic and we don't have all these different types of cannons etc.

  • @getschmiton Also if the spy glass does I think it kind of just puts my point higher up there nothing to do with pvp or xbox/pc it just to keep things equal like having no brightness slider. Which is kind of strange seeing how I could easily change my monitor settings. Same thing goes for the ADS just change your mouse DPI's unless it moves at a set speed. Might be something to test.

  • @pigeonman-beam I don't think the devs are lazy at all and I love what they're doing with this game. And the fact that anyone can jump into the game at any time and have an even playing experience is amazing. Vertical progression systems have turned me away from so many games like the division and destiny to just name a few. That's why I really only play games like overwatch cause the progression is purely cosmetic.

  • @getschmiton Yeah the lazy comment wasn't really to you it's more of just "people who jump to conclusions" without knowing the full story.

  • @getschmiton I agree also Vertical progression systems besides for a MMO RPG for me are kind of strange. Games without them are highly more skilled based and seeing how sea of thieves is so basic. The skill cap to be considered a good pirate will be very hard to achieve. Which makes the game so much more at actually getting better.

  • I see it as more of a quirk of the weapon. You have to be pretty accurate at sighting the target before you ADS because the adjustment, while scoping, feels quite heavy.

  • PC Player here and I played 8h on the Stress Test with a Sniper.
I'm coming from Overwatch with a mid-high dpi (in Overwatch i used 2 out of 30, so very low) and I use a HUGE Mousepad, So for me It was not a big deal bc I have a lot of space to quickly move my mouse around, but I can see a problem for ppl like my friends that use like a 10cm x 10cm mousepad and not like me 30-40cm x 30-40cm.

Also I play a lot of Osu with my Mouse, which is high DPI compared to overwatch, so I have a good mix out of both and can quickly adapt.

But I can see a problem here, but I'm not sure if it's that big, its litterally personal preference and if you can't adjust it, you can make it right for everybody.

just my input to this pls don't throw me into the Sea!

    Source? Because that's stupid.

  • Guys, have a look at this interview at the 26:36 mark.

It's going to be fixed. It doesn't look like the implemented it as a balancing factor, but more likely something that has come up as Rare are most used to developing console games and not PC games. And with a controller, it makes sense to have the sensitivity switch once ADS is on since they are much harder to fine adjust than a mouse.
