  • AYE! Cross-platform is indeed possible for they have announced that they want to separate the player base as little as possible.

I doubt that buying one copy would let you play on both supports at the same time. That would be ARRRRguably a treasure in itself for all of us but not so much for the editors.

I hope you find your answers on your journey with your little rascal and I will be sure to keep my only eye on the thread YARRRR!

  • @netherscourge I played on my PC and my kids played on their consoles for Beta and the Scale test. The only issue we had was when an Xbox player invited me to the crew (my kids) the computer would hang up on the "match making" screen. Some other folks have had the same issue. @Kustho has been helpful in this THREAD here. Hopefully you do not run into the same issues I ran into!

  • @netherscourge look into Xbox Game Sharing.

although it should be possible, it won't be just you and him playing, as you will still be in the same shared world as every other player

  • I don't know the answer to this question. But what I think would work is you could buy a copy for one account and the other account could get Xbox game pass which is 10euro a month. Plus you get access to all other +150games in game pass.

  • @netherscourge No I couldn't. So, I had to hop on my console and play with them. HOWEVER... Before you jump ship, there are people they have had success with the PC to XBOX One match making. I am just one that did not. It very well may be on my side, not necessarily the Rare or MS side. Considering crossplay is a major selling point it is safe to assume any bugs people were having will be fixed. Best thing to do is research it. There have been people helping me out in here, but until there is another test opportunity I will not know if this works!

  • @netherscourge okie dokie, in that case look into Xbox Game sharing. as far as I'm aware that would make it playable on both. I could be totally wrong and have no way to test until release but I'm fairly sure its how it works for other games.

  • @netherscourge Hi there,

I discussed already befor and other users like @Musicmee they told me that you can play on two different devices with one game purchase (must be the digital version) using the game share feature.

I will search that post and edit here with a link

  • @netherscourge

Ok here is one topic, my last reply as a link to another topic with more information, hope this help

  • You just need to purchase the game once. The xbox account with the game and live needs to be listed as the home account! Then you log out of that account and sign in with another account. It will share all games on that xbox and live with any account you sign in with.

This has been confirmed multiple times. My wife and I just played doing it this way this weekend. I played on my computer and she on the xbox with 1 copy of the game. I made her a brand new account with no live or other connections. We signed it into my xbox and I signed into my computer and we played.

  • Yes that's what you do. If it doesn't work make sure your main account is signed out on your xbox a few times mine wasn't and that caused a conflict. Once we solved that minor detail my wife was able to make a character of her own and play as if she owned her own copy of the game while I played on my main account on my PC.

  • Sorry guys if i go slightly OT, to play online games like SoT on Xbox One you don't need the Live Gold subscription?

  • @cr0n0d Your home account shares live with all other accounts added to the xbox. You don't need live to play on PC at all. You only need live on xbox and as long as the home account has it all other accounts are good to go.

  • @netherscourge
Yes, that's how you do it. I did the same thing with my kids for the scale test. Kids on Xbox and me on PC. We do the same thing with Forza Horizon 3. It is just one license.
We actually take it one step further. We have 2 Xboxes and the PC. This allows all of us to man the same boat together, but it does require 2 game licenses for this setup. For you it would just require 1 game license.

  • @all-the-rage I'm sorry, English is not my tongue and i never had an Xbox, probably my question is not very clear. I'm a (happy 😜) pc user, i already preordered the game on the Windows store. I was thinking to buy an Xbox One just to play SoT with my son but far as i know i will need to pay the gold subscription on the Xbox One, is that correct?

  • @cr0n0d yes, to play on Xbox you will need to pay for Xbox Live Gold

PC players don't need to pay for Xbox Live Gold

  • The Scale test was open to everyone that had access to the Insider Hub

buying a digital licence may be different, but game sharing seems to work with other games. That is why I said there was no way for me to test conclusively until release, unfortunately.

  • @triheadedmonkey said in Question about playing on Xbox One X and PC at same time:

@cr0n0d to play on Xbox you will need to pay for Xbox Live Gold

PC players don't need to pay for Xbox Live Gold

Ok, so in this case, because SoT will be available with the gold subscription, and you must have the gold subscription to play online with the Xbox, you don't have to buy the game at all and you can use on one Xbox and one Pc with the game share? (or two Xbox) 🤔

  • @cr0n0d SoT is available on Game Pass if that's what you mean, but that is another, separate subscription.

Xbox Live Gold enables Xbox users to play online, multiplayer games and is about £40/year. Game Pass is an extra subscription that gives access to games almost like renting them and is about £10/month.

To play Sea of Thieves on Xbox requires you have Xbox Live Gold whatever.

  • @triheadedmonkey Ok, now i feel very stupid, i don't know why i imagine they were the same services. Now is all crystal clear, thanks a lot for your help!

  • @netherscourge
Only Rare can answer this for you, so you should probably try contacting them directly. My guess is that you won't be able to do this as one purchase of Sea of Thieves allows you to create one and only one pirate whose progress is saved as you play. If you can create another pirate because of an Xbox family account, that punishes PC-only players or people with individual Xbox Live accounts. Rare is well within their rights to charge you for an additional license here.
