A little less damage in storms.

  • I understand that storms must be feared and avoided wherever possible. but now it is almost impossible to fully sail out of a strom. five seconds after a hole has been closed, it pops open again.

I like to sail in a storm but I do not get any experience with it because I'm only running up and down in the hull of the ship.

Once again it should not be easy to sail a storm but would make a little less gaps in my opinion better.

    Your thoughts?

I don't think all of the storms are the same. I had some where we hardly got any holes in the boat. I think it also depends on if you are in the sloop of the galleon.
Really, storm sink ships. Sailors fear storms because they know they might die. Storms should be something you try to sail around (especially in a small boat)

  • @erikinthebakery @Cheatingcoder88

Storms do have a mix of difficulties.. and a lot of it was based on requests and feedback for more difficult storms from forum members...

I quite like where we have ended up. But it does need to be fairer on those that have just spawned in... spawning into the game having a half underwater ship or one with more holes than swiss cheese is just a downer and very jarring for a new player.

  • @erikinthebakery I had not yet realized that the storms might be stronger or weaker. good point

  • I got into a bad storm yesterday i was stuck in it for about 30 min lol,i think i had 16 planks up on my sloop, frustrating yes fun yes and when i got my chests on shore it was a relief, but satisfying.i think the storms are fine.

  • Didn't experience them this session just assumed more of the same, i have seen (and participated in) several threads wanting more weather changes such as storm variations but hadn't actually gone to check this time around.

The storm is fun and has a great atmosphere when sailing through it. I do wish we'd get some thick fog tho. Can't wait to suppise attack someone from the fog.

  • i find it ok and how it should be. challenging . The fact that it's difficult to sail trough is an advantage for you as well if you get some xperience sailing trough it. People will second guess , chasing you if you go into a storm. But for me it seems just fine , and it's RNG how many times you get hit by lightning , i for once sailed trough the eye from one edge to the other of the storm and got hit 3 times. not consecutively so it's fine. You just encountered some bad rng :D

  • I was in a particularly bad storm. I was injured by lightning 4 times, once while in a TAVERN. I finally hop on my ship and decide to sail out of it. Compass was spinning like crazy, it took a good five minutes to patch up, bail out, and get control. Saw some daylight, and made a beeline for it. So good.

Really, I think there needs to be protection from the majority of storm damage near docks. Ships sought out ports in storms for protection. ANY port in a storm, as the saying goes. Meaning, it was so important to get to a port in a storm that it was worth landing amongst enemies.

  • @erikinthebakery Yes, good idea! But at the same time, I don't want to make it too easy when collecting chests from an island while you are in a storm.

  • @musicmee I could see keeping the rain water in the hold, and maybe even the occasional lightning strike, but wave damage should be minimized, at least in the more protected coves. Really, if you are in someplace like Thieves Haven or Smuggler's Bay you should be safe from storm damage (and only have to worry about the skelly cannons).

  • @erikinthebakery Definitely! I always use the coves and bays where I can... just to keep my sloop out of view and then merge in with the island so that will help.

For me, the outposts need to have some slightly calmer waters and maybe a better cove/bay.

  • @erikinthebakery I think the getting to port thing was more, get on land and let's not get lost at sea sorta thing.

  • I have only been in 1 storm so takw my advice with a grain of salt. I think Rare should avoid random damage in the storm. I would very much like to see a type of "rogue wave" mechanic that was in Black Flag, or aomething similar where the player has to react. Good sailors will not take damage and less-experienced sailors will see their boats damaged if they fail to react appropriately. Not sure how feasable this is.

  • I enjoyed storms during the scale testing. Had the pleasure of being docked at an island during one.

  • I kind of agree with this. If you're unlucky like me, you'll get struck by lightning about 7 times, and then you're at the mercy of the storm directing your boat while you scramble to save it from sinking.

(Also got lucky a few times and sailed in storms with no prob. So maybe it's just a luck of the draw kind of thing.)

  • If you're solo, you shouldn't be sailing into a storm. If you do or if you get caught in a storm while on an island, anchor up and repair until it passes.

  • My first experience in a storm was like this...

Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale,
A tale of a fateful trip
That started from this tropic port
    Aboard this tiny ship.

The mate was a mighty sailing man,
    The skipper brave and sure.
Five passengers set sail that day
For a three hour tour, a three hour tour.

    The weather started getting rough,
    The tiny ship was tossed,
If not for the courage of the fearless crew
The Minnow would be lost, the Minnow would be lost.

The ship set ground on the shore of this uncharted desert isle
    With Gilligan
    The Skipper too,
    A millionaire and his wife,
    A movie star
    The Professor and Mary Ann,*
    Here on Gilligan's Isle.

  • @ant-heuser-kush I'd lose my marbles in that situation..... Just jump into the Kraken's mouth and be done with it lol

  • @cheatingcoder88

I understand where you are coming from. I thin variety is key. Some Storms are bigger and badder. Tornadoes etc.

  • This was one of the few times I did actually enjoy the sailing in this game. Some storms seem fairly easy to navigate through. And other times it was just like oh s**t. We're going down. At which point my crew mate and I just climbed the crows nest and watched the awesomeness of the water effects eat our ship.

yeah more people say that storms in the game are different. I did not realize that

I don't know if the following is true, as I am a new member and have not tested it myself. Yesterday I read in a post that when you are in a storm, you need to turn your ship so it takes the waves in the bow. If you don't, the waves that hit the sides of your ship will damage it.

You coud be right. il try in the next scale test :D
