A real pirate doesn't carry just two weapons!

  • I liked it better in the Alpha and Beta, when we could carry a sword and multiple firearms at a time. now since we can only use 2 weapons at a time it feels very disappointing in my opinion for not only my choice feels very limited, but i feel less confident in how i would fight the skeletons, and rival players.
It also in my opinion doesn't feel pirate-like since I couldn't use the sword, pistol and blunderbuss at the same time.
I understand if it's meant so other players wouldn't have an unfair advantage over you and visa versa, but to me it takes away the real pirate thrill of wielding a sword and multiple guns in the game

  • I disagree! I am more than happy about this introduction only having two weapons! I also feel we should all only start with a sword and nothing else.
Or perhaps one better than a sword! We all start with a frying pan and nothing else!

  • @blackbeard-ben You should become a pacifist,then you'd only need love.

  • @blackbeard-ben correct me if I’m wrong, but they didn’t carry snipers, swords, pistols, AND blunder buses in their back pockets all at the same time either lol

  • Also when you think about it, pirates only really ever used muskets pistols and swords and musket users maybe had a sword and pistol users would have maybe two pistols and a sword. I think its more accurate to pirates.

  • Most of the PvP players were asking for a change like this. It definitely makes PvP more interesting and while I'm not huge into it unless defending myself, I like the change.

  • pretty sure they didn't fire themselves out of cannons either :)
    or eat bananas whole!

  • I don't think the game is geared toward the 'realistic' approach judging by its look.

More weapons = more things to think about / strategy / fun but I am cool with whatever.

I think the blunderbuss is the most effective weapon but when you need range...well, its good to be able to switch to something with a bit more range and to also have access to something for close quarters when the ammo runs out. In short, I prefer having a variety of tools available to chop and change my play style with.

  • @blackbeard-ben

Actually, a real pirate would have been lucky to just have a single blade (knife being most common and very few with a sword) let alone a gun..... a gun which shoots (quite unreliably I might add) a single shot.

To me, this change says Rare wants more people engaging in sword fights, not just shooting through all the rounds you have between different guns.

  • @blackbeard-ben they need actual physical objects for sword pistols ect that show on your character

  • I agree! This is a whimsical pirate game and whimsical pirate heroes like Jack Sparrow and Morgan Adams carry half a dozen pistols, a sword, countless knives, muskets, and blunderbuses. I think 3 weapons would be nice. Sword as standard and 2 additional weapons of your choice. That way you can have short range, long range, and a sword to fast travel to shore with. The idea that this cartoon pirate game needs to somehow adhere to reality is bogus. Also, the idea that having more then two weapon slots somehow makes pvp better is bogus. Shotty snipers with a melee is the backbone of action video games! Since the sword is melee in this game... 3 slots! Lol.

  • personally i agree with the original post. Its not like you have an m16 with 30 shots and then a sniper rifle with another 30 shots, you get 5 for each weapon and im fine with that. But the ability to have "different" weapons to use also gives it that appeal. Not to mention that in game play ive found that you can accidently fire off shots switching to map etc and waste one of the 5 precious shots. Now that the skeletons are armed as well as human pvp players, I feel that restricting you to 1 sword (which you can use endlessly ) and one gun as secondary, is limiting as two guns and no sword you only have 10 shots and your done. Not to mention you have to defend yourself against the sharks in the waters as well. C'mon we arent talking about 10 guns to run around with, I think that a max of a pistol , blunderbuss and a sniper rifle and sword was excellent and worked well in the beta and still you needed to reload. It also gave you 2 weapons that you had to work to achieve to buy, now only one so that also limits the gameplay aspects. Given when the game goes "live" in march there will be more people playing in it than in a closed beta yes ?? so defence for yourself and your crew will be necessary so I support the original post for game play purposes and its more fun and gives you something to achieve but I also agree that you can start off with "just a sword" and then have them work up to other weapons as suggested. If you want them to be p*****s and get frustrated at being killed all the time even by skeletons as they run out of ammo well , most people will soon get bored with the game and it will be ignored. But developers thats your choice. 500 g a pistol, 1000g a blunderbuss and what 1500g or 1600g as i saw for a sniper rifle. seems fair. Personally i didnt see much difference between blunderbus and pistol but its still something in game to achieve :)

  • We just need a baldric!!!! (The belt like thing across the chest, pirates wear)
That would hold a sword, and maybe up to 2 firearms. It would be perfect!

It's the only part of the Pirate outfit that RARE is missing...and it's an integral part!!!
I really can't believe they missed that. Look at any Pirate picture, movie, etc and they ALL have baldrics!

You'd also be able to see what weapons, swords, etc that someone is actually carrying!

  • I want carry more than two weapons too!
The last OpenBeta version was much better in that point.

It makes pvp now even more boring if you have less weapons and choises...
I hope they gonna change that again :-/

  • i'd be fine with 2 weapons if the sword swing speed wasn't completely useless in most situations. buff sword speed plz, doesn't have to be alpha fast i'd settle for half that tbh

  • Agree with people saying it should be 3 slots, or specifically one melee and 2 projectile weapons. Unless you coordinate weapons between a full crew it feels like you're just creating weaknesses with little to no benefit by changing the default weapons.

  • @qm-ginger-beard
Now I carry the Revolver and the Shotgun.
The Sword is boring and mostly only useful against skeletons...

    and btw:
Who brings a knife to a gunfight?

@blackbeard-ben correct me if I’m wrong, but they didn’t carry snipers, swords, pistols, AND blunder buses in their back pockets all at the same time either lol

@dark-shadow9056 lol going by this logic, they didn't shoot themselves out of cannons either, but here we are ;)

  • @skeletonpiratex Sounds like a cunning plan to me :)

    :snip:
I think the blunderbuss is the most effective weapon but when you need range...

The blunderbuss is effective when shooting skeletons or a pirate in the back, but in head to head combat, the blunderbuss fails as it’s to cumbersome.

  • I'm feeling like the best option would be:
Melee weapon like Sword or axe (just a skin? Idk)

    • flint pistol cause it's short and can be carried easily
    • Large gun (sniper rifle OR blunderbuss)
That way we could have "specialisations" mostly for pvp, blunder guys launch themselves from cannon to board enemy ship, and snipers shoot canons and snipe.
The way they did it is gonna make the sniper and flint pistol waste of a slot imo, cause you absolutely need a sword if you run out of bullets, and the blunderbuss is clearly a must have for close quarter, blunder shot+ sword dash is OP when rushing somebody
  • Without considering what´s more realistic, or better. I think it´s not a change they thought about just yet. Since we already had those two keys on PC (1 and 2) to equip weapons and this arsenal chest on the ship, I think it might have been planned longer already to set this limitation.

Personally I think, it´s not that bad of an idea. I think it lightens the gameplay in PvP a little bit. Also, it gives the need for better teamcoordination. Say, you have to choose one to equip the sniper, probably the one in the crows nest, two others with the blunderbuss, to go to the islands and defend the chest carrier.

True , lol, I just feel 3 guns is a bit much

  • @blackbeard-ben Great point! I agree fully, but really think Rare should make sword combat more fluid. It’s too clunky right now.

  • Let’s meet in the middle with 3 weapons and one has to be the cutlass.

  • @alexx500 i completely agree. 2 weapons total didnt work for me. I played alpha and beta. I can understand have 4 weapons is to much cause the whole 3 trick shot weapon switch trick but we should have a sword always and then 2 firearms of choice to carry. They will mst likely add weapons but in all games woth guns u usually get 2 main guns and a sidearm. Or allow us to be able to punch, but then punching will be to similar to pubg sp lets keep cutlass and 2 firearms please or allow us to carry 3 weapons after a certain point in game pushing people to get something worthwhile by getting to end game. Im hopeing this was just for stress test and pirates' feedback.

  • A real pirate only gets to die once. Good thing we aint real pirates.

  • If we end up only carrying 1 gun at least let us have more shots.

  • I think it's brilliant.

Unless your a fearless swordmaster, your going to be thinking about bringing friends to increase firepower.
While griefers get nerfed and cry like they got their balls cut. (not saying all pvp'ers are griefers!)

So much fun by Rare. I bet it stays this way at launch.

  • @blackbeard-ben
i love the change! it adds balance and gives significance to players for the type of gun they choose! Are you a Sniper in the nest? or blunder bust boarder!
I still think the blunder bust is a bit OP THO!
maybe they should increase the spread?

  • I really like that you can only carry two weapons now. This way you can't just cycle through all of your weapons and kill someone.

  • I like the 2 weapons max rule. It allows for more of a challenge for solo players, and also makes load outs for your crew mates VERY useful.

  • I know that the swap-shoot strategy is cool and you literally destroy everyone facing you but it was a bit unfair since many xbox and some Pc players can’t do it really fast. But remember that you can still change weapons on your ship any time you please!

  • 2 weapons only is better in my opinion.

You could switch and fire far too quickly. Being able to have 3 guns loaded and ready, then quick fire them in succession at someone was an easy way to get a kill.

Now there's a bit more strategy in combat.
