Sorry I tried to solo a Chest of Sorrows and failed miserably.

  • It was my first voyage this time round it just happened to be what I dug up (yeah team). Thought I 'd give it a go but I just couldnt do everything on the boat. Boy did that baby sink quickly. In the end I tried to swim it to the outpost, almost made it to. Almost.

  • Chest of sorrows is the kind of good idea that works very well in team, but prevent solo player to play the game.

Maybe setting the chance to found a Chest of Sorrows when traveling alone to 0 would solve the problem.

  • @tronchedekek I do not agree with that setting change. I don't find sailing alone with that chest difficult at all. I love the additional challenge of sailing with them and have done it with two at the same time. Would love to try for three at a time (as long as no one tries to fight me)!

  • @tronchedekek While I understand the struggle, as someone mainly playing solo, but it's not actually that hard. The first time I was shocked as to what was happening and my boat sank. The other time I waited to board my ship until the chest stopped crying and then dropped anchor and jumped overboard with chest whenever it cried again, getting back on when it stopped. Alternatively, it works to just bucket out water when needed, though this doesn't work when you're getting attacked - as solo you're completely done for if that happens.

  • really? i was solo when i cashed one in, although i didn't really steer the ship so much as i pointed it in the general direction of an outpost and went down to bail water

  • I mean the curse is designed to force one of your crew member to take care of the water level inside the ship.

If only one pirat can do it on his own, then maybe the curse is not enough powerful to do what it is supposed to do.

  • @tronchedekek I did enjoy the challenge though. Would loved for it to go down with the ship let somebody else have the challenge of find it and dealing with, perhaps renamed shaggiedo's sorrow.

  • No worries mate.
    Its not that hard.
It takes some time to get used to it!
    Cheers.

  • @shaggiedo first time I encountered this was on a crew of 4. we were all like "w*f, is someone crying? who is that?" we all thought it was someone on mic or someone in the background of someone on mic, having a good ol cry!... until we figured it out.
the cursed chests are a great idea though, keeps you on your toes.

  • @shaggiedo Just out of curiosity, what about it caused you so much trouble? Typically when I get one, I wait until it stops crying, then put it in the boat, and immediately set sail. I don't spend a lot of time on the wheel when sailing solo, so usually bailing the water from the chest is not that cumbersome for me. Especially with how slow the sloop fills up, I probably bail once every 30sec or so.

Actually, chests from a lost ship do float there a while, and they remain on the sea floor a while after that... provided you were close enough to shore for there to be a bottom!

You will gradually learn how to double-task in situations like that, alternating between steering and bailing water. But how easy or difficult the Chest of Sorrows is to transport depends on many circumstances. In a storm or an enemy ship encounter, you might want to just toss that gold overboard.

  • I tip my hat to my fellow soloist who have mastered the chest, I do look forward to turning in my first illusive chest of sorrows. I do tend to get a flustered on the boat.

  • I usually toss them overboard. Or if I'm with someone, save them to sneak onto an enemy ship. Put it up in the crows nest or something and they'll never find it lol

Thanks for the tips. I think my biggest problems is I do tend to spend alot of time on the wheel (still trying to perfect setting a good course). The other problem was I was try to pacify it rather than dealing with the problem at hand - the boat loads of water. I'm a plodder, and a male to boot which means can't multi-task to save my chest.

  • @shaggiedo You will get there! I have to remind myself to slow down sometimes when it comes to the more tense situations. It also helps to have put in quite a bit of hours on the sloop. They say practice makes perfect!

  • Whenever I dug up the CoS I would always wait for it to stop crying. Step 2 was to sail right away to the nearest Outpost, for there is a cool down before the chest starts crying again.

It's easy to do once you get the routine down.

  • @shaggiedo Brought back quite a few chests of sorrows solo. Did one this morning through a storm. Just have to be quick on your feet man!

  • Well the day started out with my boat sinking faster than a speeding ticket due a pesky chest of sorrows, and ended with my triumphal returning of one said pesky but defeated chest. Not a bad day all in all. I got lucy, it was quite up beat and didnt cry alot, and I was alot better prepared - pointed my ship towards an outpost and bailed my heart out.

  • I solo’d a chest of sorrows tonight... by swimming from one island, all the way to an outpost.

Took, ferever, but if you’ve got the patience and ammo and bananas... ANYTHING, is possible.

  • I have carried a few chest of sorrows solo, when i set my destination ie outpost,i set the wheel in lock so no need to steer just bucket when it crys.
