Sea of Thieves Has The Wrong Gamertag for My Account

  • I registered my Microsoft account tied to my Xbox Live account on Sea of Thieves, but it assigned a completely random gamertag "Gallant Hook 1" to me instead of my actual gamertag. After re-registering through the console, my account now shows the right gamertag on the forums, but I'm still getting emails for "Gallant Hook 1".

At a minimum, has this prevented me from playing in closed betas previously and is still pretty frustrating. Does anyone know how to get this fixed?

  • @shark-attack You will have to contact Microsoft regarding getting access to this other gamertag as "Gallanthook1" is still an active gamertag and has not been changed.

  • @dhg-ixxrmacxxi That doesn't sound exactly right. I don't want / care about "Gallant Hook 1" and have no idea why Sea of Thieves associated it with my email address. It has never been my gamertag and I've never heard of it. From the Microsoft perspective, that name never shows up anywhere for me; I can't access it from my Xbox, computer, etc...

Since the only real indicator of account I have is my one email, which logs in as Shark Attack, I have no idea how to get Sea of Thieves to recognize me as Shark Attack in their account system instead of emailing me as if I was "Gallant Hook 1". The fact that it's a silly pirate-themed name also suggests to me that it's a Sea of Thieves problem.

  • @shark-attack As @DHG-IXxRMACxXI has suggested, you will need to contact Microsoft Support via web or phone. Make sure to ask why 'Gallant Hook 1' is being associated with your e-mail specifically. If they're unable to assist you, the next step would be to contact Rare (SoT Support). If they're unable to figure out the incorrect gamertag association, don't worry. As long as you're able to prove that you preordered before the end of the previous beta, I can't see why they wouldn't help you obtain a new code. They did, after all, supply half of the streamers with codes during the closed beta period.

  • Yeah I'm not this person. But here I am gallivanting around as them against my will...

  • @endinglime57512 Log off the forum and log back in with the correct Microsoft account. Perhaps your browser is logged into a MS account for hotmail/exchange that is not the one associated with your gamertag.

  • @ionei-falcon all I can do is lot of and log back in. No option of changing accounts. Also I have everything with my Google account synced. Idk where this one would even come from
    .

  • @ionei-falcon this obviously is no fault of mine. How could this even occur? I don't have passwords or emails or anything for this random account. I've never even heard of it. And here 3 days later. Still gallivanting

  • @ionei-falcon it's not in game just in the forum. Sorry should have specified

  • @shark-attack was this the first time you signed in? Because when you make a new gamertag, the first name there is a random one...you can change it once for free

  • @schwammlgott no. I've had the same gt for about 5 years. This is a random glitch. Or I'm being hacked. Those are the only 2 logical explanations I can think of. I'm 28 years old. I've posted with my correct user name @YoMcShmiggle multiple times. Please help @Deckhands

  • @schwammlgott I think shark attack resolved his issue
