I'd love it if we could lock-in characters during character selection so that they don't get recycled when we generate new ones

  • I'm nitpicking here, but I imagine it could get really frustrating during character selection trying to decide whether to opt for a generated character you like, not knowing if there are other better characters waiting behind the next randomised cycle, or risk recycling that character for a small chance of getting another one that you might like more, only to realize after a dozen more cycles you'll never find a character as good as the one you've just cycled. I think being able to lock characters so that they don't get recycled could solve this issue.

Apparently the character we pick can never be changed back so it's important we don't have any regrets after selecting one.

  • I'd love to have a normal character creator with an ability to randomize. The current solution is awful and will lead to a lot of frustration.

  • Yeah, I'm very much hoping that if we like a particular pirate build. (Im not sure if scars/tattoos are randomly generated as well or selected in game later?) We can favourite that one or several and cycle the rest and compare 8 favourites or something to decide.

  • IGN got a behind the scenes interview with Rare and were shown a lot of things. They were shown that you do get to pick your pirate.

  • This is what I need to see and seeing as its an 8 character circle it seems like it would be very easy to implement. Its extremely important that a @Rare-Employee sees this before the game launches and we're stuck with a character we kind of like when we had a chance for one we really liked.

  • We need the option to save the current liked pirates and while still being able to regenerate other pirate styles before making a final decision.

Example: 8 pirates on the screen. I like 1 but want to see more. I slot that pirate then spin the wheel. 7 new styles should show up until I pick one. If I wanted, I could un-slot one to keep spinning.

I also believe that Rare is generating off a seed-code making everyone unique. Think generating maps for Minecraft. Once the seed is taken, then that code is registered and can't be re-rolled in the database.

    Please @Rare-Employee !!

  • I like this idea. It keeps the core mechanic while giving us some degree of control over the decision of our choice.

  • They absolutely need to make this an option. Im ok with random selection so long as theres some form of control too it. It would suck if the "best" pirate for you was on the 1st roll but you dont realise that until youve rolled a few more times and realised they arent as good, at which point its too late and your stuck in an almost infinite loop of generation. Im not fussed to not be able to design a char right down to the eyebrows but with the models (of what I have seen) theres some I like and some I dont and I dont want rng playing a part in that.

This is something they really need to show in action pre release as its a hot topic. Ive seen one BTS video of it but it just showed how theyre layed out for selection, didnt even cycle through or reroll. Theres too many questions about this system atm

  • I agree with everything that has been said here.

I like the idea of the IPG, because I take a lot of time creating characters when games give me too many possibilities. But the option to lock pirates would be really nice. And if there were also specific filters that save us time (for selecting our character's gender for example) it would be better still.
