So was anyone else "attacked" by the Kraken in the beta ?

  • In the beta, I had an "encounter" and I am desperately trying to find someone who had the same experience because unfortunately I was not recording at that time.

    Here is what happened to me:
    On a 2-man ship, while getting ready to leave an island we just plundered, I hear some ominous sounds thinking it is just some ambient music, I look below deck to check for any holes or water because we already had a chest of sorrows, but we were clean and while still below deck, I get teleported off the ship and onto the island thinking "what the hell ? it's ok since it is still in beta and it has happened to me before while on-board enemy ships and they glitch out".
    I try to get back on the ship but it had already started capsizing meaning it was sunk. How ? No water, no holes. So there is only one possible explanation: Kraken !!!

    The only videos I have seen of people having the same experience is:

  • No you were not attacked by the Kraken. I'm certain this is a bug with the Chest of Sorrows. I experienced a similar situation with this chest. I was constantly checking for water in my boat and never saw any. It never cried that's when your boat is suppose to start getting filled up with water. Eventually I just randomly sunk with out any clear explanation. Since we both had the Chest of Sorrows on our boat I can conclude that what is happening is the chest is leaking and sinking our boat without properly displaying the crying sound and the water.

    First of all those sounds are reported to happen at the same time every time in game. I heard them every time I played. If people didn't it was because they lack awareness. They were very common. Every night I would hear them. Just like this video reports.

    As far as I can tell the Red Sea video you posted was absolutely not the Kraken or this Red Sea thing you referenced, IT WAS JUST A TYPICAL STORM. The guy clearly took on water from the storm and developed leaks from the storm and sunk. I've experienced this in every storm I sailed in as a solo player which was over 15 different storms. It seemed like no matter what I did I could never get away from a storm, they were far more frequent than other players. Every single storm I sailed in caused my boat to develop leaks/hole and even when that was not happening I would still take on water. If you missed a hole you would sink. I'M CERTAIN THIS GUY MISSED HOLES AND SUNK. Most likely another water display bug. It's also possible he had a chest of sorrows and experienced the same bug we did.

  • The simplest explanation is no one was attacked by the Kraken. How do we know this to be true? Because the Kraken wasn't even in the beta.

    There were, however, numerous glitches that caused boats to sink without warning or to move on their own (even when anchored), and people are jumping to conclusions.

  • @siriondb nice

  • @fvagelis I think when you get attacked by the kraken for the first time after launch, you're going to realize this encounter was just some sort of bug.

    The kraken would make sure you were still on board. You're the juicy bit inside the hard, crunchy exterior.

  • Maybe you guys sailed off the map. First time i sailed of the of the map was when my GF needed me for the daily shoppinng list. When i turned back to the computer and put my headphones back on, i noticed this strange music and red sea as my ships hull slowly disinigrated.

  • The Kraken!!

  • Similar things happened to me, wrote it off as bugs :P

  • I saw an invisible Kraken a few times (yes, I've seen the invisible). As our ship was sinking, it suddenly twisted, jerked and sank really fast.
    So invisible kraken confirmed! It preys on sinking ships.

  • the sea turns red when u reach the end of the map:D i guess the kraken dosent exist in the beta.

  • you were attacked by the dreaded and fearsome beta-bug

  • (alright, let's do this. just don't get offended by my poor grammar skills)

    @all-the-rage
    I didn't know about that glitch with the Chest of Sorrows, but that was not what sunk my ship because the crew mate I had taught me trick which is if you hold the chest and grab on to the ladders on the side, you will not get flooded and we weren't. Also I put the chest on the shore right next to our ship while we were plundering so that it wouldn't flood the ship. And unless the chest can flood your ship even if it is not on it, in a combination with the invisible water level you said, it was not the chest's fault.
    About the 2nd video, if you have played for so long as to find bugs that I didn't know, then you should know that SHIPS DON"T JUST SINK LIKE THAT. Ships sink from the water that comes out of the holes and not the holes themselves. Also it was simply raining and not an actual storm that can fill your ship with water.
    Also about the ominous sounds, I meant more like music cues, not monster noises.

    @felid0r
    You sound like you haven't played a beta version of any game before because the developers can add teasers like this one on an unreleased game that is obviously different than the final release.

    @lifeofelixx
    Why bother replying if you don't read my post where I clearly say we were still on the island.

  • @ant-heuser-kush That made me laugh XD

  • That was definitely the Kraken breh.
