Burrying treasure mechanic

  • Not sure if anyone has suggested this or not but the idea just came to me and I thought i would just post it.
So there is buried treasure everywhere right, but who is burrying it?
What if we could,as a game mechanic, bury our own treasure, like one normal chest we find, and as time goes on,it will gain more vallue, but as soon as we bury it,a map is made and when we die, some one can steal it.
So its a risk vs reward thing, bury a normal chest,do a couple quests and then go get it 1 hour after for more profits, but risk being attacked and losing the map,and some one going there and stealing it.

The question then becomes what happens if you bury treasure then quit the game and log back on later assuming that no one stole it?

    Proposition:

I propose that if I bury 3 chests on Crescent Isle on Server A then immediately log out. For the next hour in real life anyone could dig up the treasure chests I buried. After the hour the chests would disappear from the server. Then when I sign back on after the hour is up then my treasure will now be in the server I load into.

If I logged on to Server B immediately after I left Server A then after that hour of waiting, my treasure would be synced up to Server B's Crescent Isle (or the current server I'm on).

The issue there would be what if multiple people have treasure buried in the same spot and both log onto the same server/instance?

It's a nice idea but flawed. I personally think that if they were to implement this, your treasure should stay with that instance/server and after logging out of that server or switching servers, the chest remains there for an extended time for other people to possibly find by luck. The chances of you getting back in that server/instance is probably slim to none, but hey that's what ye get fer leave'n yer loot behind!! Harharharr!

  • @olric-forstner Or when you bury the chest it could generate a map in your inventory and if anyone kills you it drops the treasure maps for the ones you've buried. That way it wouldn't cloud up servers with chests and keep it all on the player side so if they switched servers later on or logged out they could still dig them up and face all the challenges of a normal treasure quest.

    The Two Chests Problem:
If it were to happen where two pirates happen to bury their treasure in the exact same spot and be on the exact same server then put both chests essentially hugging each other and both visible from the surface. It would look like some idiot tried to bury two chests in one hole. Neither gets fully covered and some other pirate my just have a lucky day.

The Point of Burying Your Treasure:
By having the chests server hop with a player (albeit the hour delay) you could amass one of those legendary pirate treasure hordes like from all those famous pirate stories. Like One-Eyed Willie's treasure in the Goonies or the hidden treasure in the Count of Monte Cristo.

Amassing such a large fortune under the noses of others is the dream of many pirates out there. So burying the treasure and being able to dig it up later would drastically enhance the player made stories that Rare is shooting for.
