Please slowdown the day/night cycle. Sunsets and sunrises are beautiful in this game but go by WAY too fast!
Slow down day/night cycle
@big-cheesy
What? There's night in SoT? I thought it was just getting cloudy :P
I agree, and they also need to get them nights darker so the lamps are actually useful.Altering the day & night cycle length will impact the merchant alliance contracts that we haven't seen yet. If you have to collect Y amount of gunpowder and animals to take to a destination in X amount of game 'days', I think Rare will want to balance how long it should take for this to be reasonable.
I love sunrise & sunset over the SoT oceans, & I think Rare will tweak and play around with this, but if they make each day too long, it will make shipping voyages easier because you will have longer to complete them...
Maybe this will be an element for us to try out in a later stress test or beta?@coffeeart687098 they could easily adjust the turn in times depending on length of day/night, sunsets/sunrises go by way too fast
@pierolivierqc That's odd. Every single person I've played with sees perfectly at night to the point that actually lamps make it worse. I have 3 xboxes at my home all connected to different, well-calibrated screens and everywhere it looks the same, even on my pc. If you can't see a riddle or map at night time then something is seriously wrong with your settings, because maps and riddles are actually very bright at night, way brighter than the environment to increse the visibility. Here's an example !

@captain-surgee I don't know what are your setting but for me playing in a very bright room I see nothing at night, if I have a riddle to solve I most likely wait for sun to rise.
Same here, I keep using the lamp if I want to see something night time on an island, and then I still have to listen carefully for skeletons spawning, because I might not spot them in time.. I think the length of day and night is okay and it is enough dark/light too.
@kgmshylian Try turning off the lamp. You will see much better without it. Having lamp out increases the contrast on the screen, thus making everything else darker.

No, you didn't get me.. moving without lamp equipped AND held up, I can't see anything. Dark spots and that's all.
@kgmshylian Maybe you have crushed blacks due to wrong settings in xbox? I'm pretty sure something must be wrong. Even if you look at official gameplay the nights are pretty bright. Check this out, the very start of the video is night time https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vf-lpz9I1kI . Do you see it the same on your system? If not, your settings need to be adjusted.

I agree, the cycle seems to go by very fast. I saw a post on reddit that one cycle is around 17 minutes which seems pretty short. Something like 25 minutes might give all of us that extra minute to take in the vi
One day is 24 minutes. Every hour is 60 seconds ;)
For me it's also going too fast. 36-48 minutes sounds better for me haha

I am on PC. In the video I can see a storm, not night, plus some afternoon parts. :) And no, I can see everything pretty clearly in the video. Also I'm pretty sure the videos are post-edited, so even if it would be too dark, they won't leave that in and place it on youtube.
Edit: When he holds up the map, that looks night time actually, but I can still make out everything around the upheld riddlemap.
@coffeeart687098 Good observation but they don't have to tie the turn-in-times to exact number of days. Each crew can have a timer instance keeping track of how long they have.

^This. Star Wars Galaxies had a cycle of 45 mins or so, and that was fine IMHO.

Maybe this will be an element for us to try out in a later stress test or beta? You could be right on this. may be a set number of days and a set time. However if that is the case extending the cycle by a like time setting will change nothing more than allowing you more time to accomplish the task. I am going to "assume" this is one of the things the developers talk about being modular on the coding side. As in the ability to adjust on the fly, drop in, or take out. I personally think the Day/night cycle needs to be longer, and the nights need to be dark enough that items like ship lanterns are required to see, or the lantern you carry is required to see. Not pitch black mind you, but dark. Full moon nights will give better visibility, overcast nights, not so much. I personally hate that I turn off my ship lamps before I set sail, and never need them again!
