I've been super excited for this game for almost a year now and I can't wait for the full release. I know that it is quite late for a suggestion of this size, but I figure it’s better to get the idea out than to keep it to myself.
One thing that I have not seen discussed much (not at all recently) is the possibility of player to player trading. I have read threads about merchant ships and things like that where players can trade with NPC's, but that is not what I am proposing here.
One game that I sunk countless hours into was Team Fortress 2, and many of those hours were spent trading items in game. It was something that I found very fun and I would love to see it in a game like this. I feel as though this would go very well in the proposed "Safe Zones" that there is a megathread about. It would give players a place to go to trade their items and potentially profit from what they have in a different way. I have a few ideas for that as well that are posted in that thread. (The thread can be found here: https://www.seaofthieves.com/forum/topic/29122/mega-thread-safe-zones/360)
A player driven market will add a whole new layer to this game. It will give players a different reason to log on if they do not feel like sailing all day. It will increase community interaction and bring more players together.
A way to get more tradeable items into people’s hands is to make chests that people get from voyages unlockable (or openable, not like level yourself up to unlock it). Instead of turning them in for regular voyages and straight reputation/gold, players can crack open their chests themselves to get possible items. Have different rarities of items (all completely cosmetic) to add varying values of items to this market.
There may be reasons to not have this implemented at all and I would love to discuss with anyone.
