Now I am not one to ever comment on games, or even join a community and actively look through forums like SOT, so even to me, this is saying that the game is something special.
Now then, as you saw the title I am blown away by the weather, the ocean, the sounds, everything about this game. However, I think there some nifty things that could definitely be added in future updates if the team is not already looking into it. Here are a few. Lastly some of these things may already be in game, but I can't quite remember since the beta ended.
- Rolling Weather, I do believe that the storms do move at some sort of speed and I think that's incredible but I also think that the storm could break up or die down eventually, like a normal storm.
- Clouds & Rain: Just like the storms I think it would be beautiful
if rolling clouds were a thing, they would cast shadows big and small onto the boats, islands and the sea. Periodically these clouds could turn into small rain clouds that slowly fill your ship up, however this would take an extreme amount of time. Lastly don't forget how cosmetically pleasing it would be to see a cloud over the moon casting a ray of light down. - Fog: By far my biggest wish on this list is rolling fog I can't express enough how immersive it would make the game feel and not to mention how tense sailing would be. Sailing through the fog would make the compass go slightly off mark but you could still check on the map to see where you're going. Lanterns would hold a huge role into this by giving more light to the bow, or stern, allowing you to see only a little farther ahead to doge rocks and islands themselves, but also make you that more obvious to others in the fog.
- Fog Island: In case fog makes it, imagine buying a voyage from one of the factions and it's a riddle, it goes something like this: {Compass Direction of Island Name} Through the fog thou may not see but the treasure is sown, at midnight on the morrow the lantern will glow. This kind of voyage would have to be time sensitive and can only be identified by lantern light between certain hours. Then because the fog cannot stay forever once the fog goes the island will begin to sink, with its (
Cursed?) treasure behind for the next pirate to buy the voyage. - Hard Weather: A chance for weather to affect your driving more then it already does my snapping one of the many ropes on the sails causing it to turn in a direction that is not beneficial which must be fixed at some point in order to save steering. To fix it you must go to the broken rope and hold down the shown button and play out a shortish animation that details the rope being fixed.
- Strong Waves: I know in game the waves can knock around the ship like a small bug, but what about the pirates? I believe if a strong enough wave hits the ship knocking it, it should throw the pirate to one side of the ship or move them backwards. Now being thrown off the ship completely would be a very acute chance of happening due to how annoying it could be.
- Cargo: This is more of an artistic choice then anything I think barrels and cargo that is already in the ship should be tied down so it couldn't move during storms, and treasure crates would scoot on the wood from side to side, this could also stop people from putting treasure on top deck because the treasure could go straight into the deep of the sea.
- Moonlight: I think it would be a cool idea that the moon and the stars would help keep everything lit during the night, and on new moons it would be darker and harder to see, causing pirates to turn on their lanterns to see better.
- Storm Holes: Storms already cause planks to break off I believe, but what if because of the harsh weather the hole gets worse (Only x amount of times it could) and would require additional planks to fix.
- Time sensitivity: Make some voyages only able to be accomplished by certain moon phases and time, as if you were to go to an island with a cave and have to dig up multiple spots where the light shines through at X Hour in the night. This however would be its own voyage and not apart of others because it could take a lot of time to do.
Now I understand that the majority of these probably couldn't be added, but I do honestly believe if they were added in a future update it would cause older players to come back once they get bored of the game, and additionally more new players to join which Rare would gain more revenue from the game. At-least that's my two cents on the subject and idea.
